My Mrs was gutted yesterday as she was in a clinic at WPH and when she had finished it and went back on to the unit she found out that CW had visited and had missed him.
He was meeting patients, having photos etc and he went down very well apparently.
Some of the players usually visit WPH in the run up to Xmas handing out goodies etc and also players of the unclean.

I was readying the other day from an Oxford fan that they consider him "chippy" and generally not a very nice man.

Perhaps you have to be a Northerner to get the way he comes across.

Does Mrs Brownie work there or is she in for treatment? Best wishes to you and yours if the latter.

Reading most of those posts, it's as if CW murdered the first born of most of their supporters. What exactly did he do to stir such venom from the Oxford supporters?

Was it a case of realising that he took the club so far and then knew that a club of their size could achieve very little else? I doubt CW will share the reasons for his departure, but without a full and detailed account of what happened, who said what and when etc, all that's left is a vague description of animosity that barely scrapes the surface of why Wilder is disliked by fans of a club he worked tirelessly for.

Interesting about the dull playing style comments too. The polar opposite of what we're seeing now. Has his style adapted that much or was it just that he was limited by what he had at his disposal? Certainly he's stumbled across the 3-5-2 with overlapping CBs whilst here, previously he was a 442 man I believe. I presume it wasn't dull football at Northampton though given the 99 points!!

"he is an obnoxious individual and disrespectful of the opportunity we gave him."

You might have thought he'd show more grattitude for the chance he had to manage one of Europe's biggest clubs.
I'd argue they're pretty disrespectful about the bloke that got them back in the league.

A strange one as despite him getting them up from the Conference, they feel he underachieved in the season that followed and very much feel scorned after he left for Northampton (and with it a longer contract than was on offer at OUFC). Most acknowledge his amazing achievements since he left but a lot remain very bitter and spiteful towards him. Unfortunately their hope that Appleton would turn out to be a better option blew up in their face when he upped & left for Leicester last summer.

It really is like they are talking about a different person to the one we know

T'was precisely that I was reading, alongside some considerably less polite things on Twitter.

They are a bitter bunch of Bastards, and they also preferred Appleton?!
Never really disliked an other team out side of the Norm but oxford really take the biscuit, used to love listening to Nick Harris talk about his beloved U's in his MotoGP commentary before really knowing much about Oxford United, but now I am very much tainted against them.

Given the depth of animosity towards CW, I wonder what exactly is Oxford's criteria for parting on good terms? Winning the FA Cup? Promotion to the Championship?

Are they completely irrational about their size and potential? Maybe the S6 disease has spread and delusion has taken a grip amongst the Oxford supporters?

Nail on the head. Certainly delusions of grandeur - must come from League Cup success no matter how long ago it was!

The wife works there

I'd argue they're a shower of twats who support a team whose main claim to fame seems to be that they were once owned by Robert Maxwell. Oh, and they won a trophy nobody has given a fuck about for 20 years.

In fairness to the Oxford fans about a third are defending him.

Wilder's Oxford record (judge for yourself if the cry babies have a point)
Joined Oxford 21 Dec 08* which was their 3rd year in the Blue Square Prem^.
When he took over they were:
P23 W8 D 6 L 9 Pts 25^
Finished the season on:
P46 W24 D10 L12 Pts 77^
7th missed the play-offs by 2 places, 4pts Oxford had had 5 pts deducted.^

Wilder's second season, 3rd in the Blue Sq and won the play-offs for promotion back to the League.^
Third season 12th in League 2
Fourth season 9th in League 2 (picked up 3 pts from the last 7 games missing the play offs by 4pts - one of their fans bones of contention).
Fifth season 9th in League 2
Sixth season left on 26 Jan 14 with Oxford P26 W12 D9 L5 Pts 45 6th place.

So he joined Oxford in the Blue Square Prem and left them in a L2 playoff spot, since when they have been promoted to L1. He joined Northampton at the bottom of L2 and left them promoted to L1 where they remain. He joined us when we were 11th in L1 and we are now second in the Champ.

I suspect the sour grapes are a result of regret about what might have been rather genuine grievance. If Tufty had resigned from us halfway through last year and was now managing, say Newcastle, and was second in the Prem while we had replaced him with tomorrow’s man I guess we would be less than pleased!

I think a lot of the gripes about style of play are due to Oxford only having half of the Wilder/Knill partnership. Wilder's managerial career has only really taken off since he and Knill teamed up at Northampton. That's not to say he wasn't a good manager before: he got Oxford back into the league which was an achievement when you look at the fates of other league sides who have been sucked into the vortex of the Conference (York now in the Conference North, Halifax getting liquidated, Stockport freefalling from the Championship down to the Conference North, Tranmere & Hartlepool stuck in midtable in the Conference.
