He may or may not have a tattoo somehwere on his body, but it was CW's substitutions, or lack of them, that gave the game away.

In many previous games he's taken a defender off to chuck on a third striker/ attacking midfielder but he didn't do this on Friday.

The reason why is obvious; he couldn't bear the thought of taking the gamble and then losing to that lot. Personally I hate derbies, as there is so much at stake and losing really does make you feel sick for a long time afterwards. Clearly CW feel this like many of us, so didn't dare go all gung ho.

4 points from 6 against Wendy and we are 10 places above them. I think the vast majority of us would have happily taken that at the start of the season.

I did think that at the time. He maybe wasn't as adventurous as he could have been, but he desperately didn't want to lose, and probably reflected the feeling amongst most of the fans that anything other than a defeat was acceptable.

And more importantly 12 points clear of the truffle hunters.

Of course you are correct but the recent form is a concern which we all hope the new signings will rectify

You may well be right, it would interesting to find out the reality at some stage. Additionally, the context for this game was very different to the first where he did gamble slightly at 2-2 (and won). Our really poor run of results has had a huge impact and we are no longer able to win games that we were doing which has affected self-confidence within the group; including players, fans and probably CW himself. Let's be honest he has made poor selections/adopted questionable tactics in several games now (QPR, Millwall, Fulham, Bristol City, Bolton, etc.) and perhaps he's struggling more than before to be as decisive as he was previously. Publicly, he needs to maintain a positive persona but privately it must have been a really difficult few weeks. If we had grabbed a win Friday it would have been a massive moment in our season and arguably in his tenure. However, you're right, if we had lost then it could have really damaged everyone and psychologically undone so much of the hard work and great achievements so far. People sometimes forget that this is the highest level that CW has ever managed at; it's not always going to work and we'll only know in May how good he really is. Finish top six and above Wednesday or this run continues and we finish mid-table like them? As each game passes, the pressure grows.

Bringing Sharp on wouldn't have been any more risky than bringing Wilson on though.

And I think Leonard for Lundstram would've only made us less likely to lose, and probably more likely to score.

Thankfully CW, backed up by Simon Moore isn't happy with taking what we have right now. Neither want to play the pigs next season because they want to be in the top division playing the best sides in the country. Nobody is settling for mediocrity! Its fantastic to hear and see...

Which makes me think that the form issue won't be an issue for much longer

My thoughts entirely. It’s the first time he hasn’t “gone for it” and risked losing, and though some will bemoan that, I don’t really blame him.

It only begs the question of why we were in a position to lose it in the first place. Playing a ramshackle side with a man down.
It's a rhetorical one of course, because we were shit.

I don't think we were 'shit' we just weren't as good as earlier in the season.

There was always the chance that Jao would break on a counter attack and bang one in, or something would hit the big lumpen idiot and trickle in.

As I said, too much at stake in a derby....

They weren't as poor as we'd expected and we weren't as good as we'd thought.

We've had our various wake up calls/doses of reality against norwich, bolton, birmingham, bristol, villa & particularly fulham and CW wasn't going to risk adding wednesday to the list.

Looking back now, I think that' what CW was thinking.IF We get a chance near the end. Try and take it.If not, make sure we dont' lose. It has turned into a good point, with the weekend results, actually not good for the pigs. I wish he had done the same against Bristol

I thought I read somewhere that he was a Leeds fan...?!??

There’s only brilliant and shit in the land of the single-cell...

Indeed.
My ideal scenario would have been to score a few, preferably with at least one down to criminal defending, to prove we are right in the mix for going up and they are in the midst of a relegation dog fight.
My conclusion from the game was that we are both likely to be in the same division again next season, unless our raft of signings can change our dependency on Coutts to make our style work.

If we finish mid table it will be a spectacular achievement given our finances.

It will also be a position that nearly everyone would have been happy to take if offered it last August.

Our great start has seen far too many people getting too far in front of themselves.

Let's try and not let the highs get too high or the lows get too low and then we will all be so much more the happier for it :)

Totally agree
Read an interesting article in the Times which could have been about the Blades but was actually about Burnley, in which it said they had ‘out performed both their budget and perceived quality of their squad. It went on to say that the problems will start for them in the second half of the season as the limited squad depth means key players having to both play every week and also to play at the absolute top of their game to maintain their league position. The more monied teams can have a slightly off day and still win. When you look at our issues post Coutts injury this analogy applies very much to the Blades.
Add to the fact like last season a teams worked out how to stop us which resulted in Wilder gong out and buying Hanson which gave us an option B and allowed us to kick on.
What will be very interesting to see is how the new players fit in and if they can give that new impetus to the team for the last three and a bit months of the season.
I for one have throughly enjoyed our journey thus far and whilst I sincerely hope we can make the play offs I really hope people remember at the end of the season what a complete heap of shit Wilder took over and how quickly he has given us hope again,

I was just going to post something similar. Our players were at the top of their games for the early part of the season and that just isn't sustainable for all 46 games. Two things I've heard lots of managers say, about adapting to a higher league, is that you need plenty of strikers and you have to strengthen in the JTW.

We also have Evans, the Ched version, to shortly return and strengthen the strikers as well so overall I would say very impressive JTW

Any appearances by Evans C. should be considered a bonus and nothing more.

Totally agree with you mate. Look how they're acting after a 0-0. If they'd have snook it, well I'm sure we can all imagine the extreme levels of delusion they would clutch to.

the return of a fully fit Evans C is going to be huge for us.. i got a funny feeling
I hope your 'funny feeling' is proven to be correct. IMO Wilder probably sees Ched as having the potential to be Billy's replacement going forward. Like all the players who have come in and done well they really owe their chance to play on this higher level stage to CW and they seem to be the ones who really are prepared to run through brick walls for the CW & the team. Ched certainly looks very much part of this category and looking back to his reaction to the bouncing day win at the Theatre of Rust he seemed one of the most pumped up and delighted on the bench. Truly hope he can come back and hit similar heights to his last stint.

Just shows how far we have come in the time CW has been manager. Who would have thought at the start of the season that the pigs would be ecsatic that they took 1 point from 6 against us :)
