I've got a lot of admiration for anyone who gets off their arse to write a book, regardless of how good it is. It's especially hard to do if your job involves pretty much the same thing - research, then sitting at a computer trying to string words together. As long as it's easy to read and contains a few new anecdotes, this can't really go wrong, among Blades fans at least.

If you can't wait for Danny's book to appear under the Christmas tree I'd recommend A Yorkshire Tragedy by Anthony Clavane. It focuses on the decline of Yorkshire sport in general but one of the chapter's chapter comprehensively details the Brearly era at the Lane. Worth buying for that chapter alone.

The same percentage as anyone who wants to offload a retro shirt, old match programme or other Blades memorabilia on this site will donate. As long as it's Blades-related I see no harm in posting. I'm sure the admins will get copies.

It's a lot of work to write a book, you put in loads of unpaid hours in advance and often you don't make enough back to cover what would be a normal wage for the hours you spent on it - especially in a highly specialised market where you'll be lucky to shift 2000. I read recently that a former Booker-shortlisted author from a few years ago can't make a living from writing today. I'm just glad that there's another Blades book out, especially as its documenting good times for a change.

As long as "Bramall" is spelt right.

And what about the ' loads of unpaid hours' that Foxy and Linz put in both in creating and monitoring this great forum of ours ?

The question from Selly Oak was a perfectly reasonable one which, so far, has brought no response from Danny which I find disappointing. You assume that they would get a copy of the forthcoming book but there has been no confirmation of this from him but, in any event, this would totally disproportionate to the benefits he has accrued by using this forum as a vehicle for promoting his work.

Let's be clear about this, he has not written this book out of the goodness of his own heart for our benefit, but rather for financial gain and / or the furthering of his own career. I see nothing wrong with either of those objectives but I have a concern that it is being done ,I this case, on the back of the efforts of others without appropriate recognition.

Some 20 years ago, I produced a literary work of my own and I made sure that every outlet that promoted it on my behalf was rewarded in cash or in kind even though many of them would have done it without reward.

I see absolutely no reason why that should not be the case here.

I'll let Danny respond but I'll just point out that he's a Blade as well as a journalist, and I'm sure his book is to a large extent a labour of love, documenting what's hopefully a turning point in our history. And, as I stated previously, he's not going to make money on this. He'll be lucky to shift enough to pay himself a wage for the time spent working on it

I think acknowledgment of those who have supported the book, in whatever way, will be given. What I wouldn’t expect is for Danny to be doling out free copies and giving funds to charities and the like. Give the lad chance to sell a few first and break even maybe?

Wrong. I’ll be lucky to get minimum wage (the u18s one) for the time this has taken, which is irrelevant to me because I haven’t done it for the money. It’s been a dream to write a book since I was a kid, the last two seasons have been so good that I felt they deserved committing to print and I needed something to help keep my brain occupied as I feared I was on the verge of some mental issues that I’d rather have avoided, and hopefully have done because of this.

Of course I’d rather have kept this to myself, and you wouldn’t have known this because you don’t know me, so please don’t come out with the ‘let’s be clear about this he’s only doing it for financial gain’ when you know nothing about my motives or reasons behind the book.

The owners will get a copy of the book if they so wish to have one, and there are other things in the pipeline. Neither have shown any dissatisfaction with the post so far - far from it from one of them, actually - and there was always the option of taking it down.

I never said " only for financial " gain , but in any event, I also did say I had no problem with that concept.

Personally speaking, the only reason that I wouldn`t have posted a similar question on other threads is because I won`t have opened them, or appreciated what they are, or the poster has said that a proportion would be going through DONATE. I'm not the forum police.

I have called others out on this in the past, and will continue to do so in future, I can only apologise for not managing to do this with 100% coverage.

It's simple really. If someone wants to use their labour of love to make a living then fine by me. I have already pre-ordered and cannot wait until it arrives.

Nobody is forcing anyone to purchase - it is merely information that you may be interested in. In fact a lot of forums have buying/selling sections so I wouldn't mind it if this forum did it in the future - it's simple, no likey - no pikey and just stick to the info that interests you. No need for smarmy comments.

Right, there's a gap in some of this though int there?

I'm putting together an annual now - thousands or words to write and edit; hundreds of hours - and I'll be selling it for F/A. I know that Danny's done put hours and hours into the book. There is a gap between a passion project and something that has big margins. A bit of light, non-spammy marketing doesn't always warrant 'calling out' - surely?
