January - break the fucking bank please on 2 quality strikers.

We would be pising the league now if we had done this in August.
We'd be pissing league if we could defend properly and keep clean sheets. We need a right sided centre half, left and a quality central midfield player who can compliment Fleck and Norwood in order for us to progress this season. Our goalscoring record is ok

Spending on a few decent forwards would be the difference between this brilliant squad being clear top, versus hanging onto joint top for now.

You want us to pay out 20 to 30 million because it would give us a great chance of promotion
BUT what if with 2 established decent strikers we still don’t achieve promotion.
We would be due a big FFP points deduction and the whole club would need dismantling, leading to Wilder leaving.

Sorry but it’s too much of a risk.
Spending 6 or 7 million is probably the best option and hope we get someone who delivers.
We bought Norwood on the cheap and McGoldrick on a free, so it’s possible to find value.

Duffy competition and a striker.

Good luck, Wilder.

Hard to get quality in January.
QPR did well with their striker punt, didn’t they?

If we brought someone in instead of Washington and better than Clarke, Sharp and McGoldrick we’d lock down top two.

Less concerned overall about Duffy. I think both McGoldrick and Fleck, in different ways can play his role.

We can’t add too many otherwise some very useful players will not make the squad, though I admit it would be a nice problem to have.

I suppose if you had a bench of Moore, Stearman, Johnson, Coutts, Duffy, Clarke, Sharp with someone like Freeman starting over Duffy and a top loan striker, option to make permanent if promoted, in front of McGoldrick you’d consider that a good window.

Can’t really be upset with Lundstram, Lafferty, Washington and Woodburn not making the squad. Perhaps Baldock counts himself a little unlucky though Freeman had fully justified his inclusion.

Spending 20-30 million doesn't guarantee promotion, you're right.

However, getting a striker that can turn a game with something unexpected and get us 30 goals a season, then promotion is pretty certain with the chances we create

Is it too much of a risk to break the bank? Yes.

If 6 Million is our budget then the player in that budget must be worth it. Waghorn wasn't worth it.

McGoldrick was a good pick up, wasn’t he?

Plenty of teams are still looking for their best XI yet I’d say right now we are at a point where 10/11 slots pick themselves with Clarke/Sharp being the only variation.

Notable mentions for Coutts and Stearman who come in also and do not dilute the quality of the XI.

I don't think there's any questioning that the best XI includes Sharp and not Clarke, what we needed (and got last night) was for Clarke to do his bit when he is called on. I hope he gains confidence from the goal but I wouldn't hesitate having him back on the bench at the weekend, unless McGoldrick is knackered and in need of a rest then it should be Sharp and Clarke.

We had one of the country’s most clinical strikers sat on the bench.

If he would have played, there’s no doubt he’d have scored with the chances we were creating.

Nobody is suggesting £20-30m. The £6m you mention is more what we need. I’ve just mentioned Nahki Wells in the car this morning. Easy to say it because he scored last night (awful defending to give him a clean run on goal). He’s got pace and the finish was very good. He’s on loan from Burnley who paid £5m for him. They can’t be expecting to make a profit on that.

The amount of times Duffy was without an outlet last night was ridiculous. We seemed very pedestrian. Wells making a darting run would draw a defender away. We need to mix it up at times. We were very good last night but we can all see where we need to improve. We have to get a striker in in January.

Rhodes had a decent game last night, and he's only worth about £3m now, thanks to that other team ruining him for a couple of seasons............

Exactly. Nobody cares about Stoke's consolation goal if you have the three or four goals our play demanded in the first half. Nobody cares that a shattered Duffy comes of if we have a fresh player of a similar ilk coming on.. It's a lack of cutting edge that has cost us five points in the last two games. The amount of domination we have in games underlines our strikers poor finishing, and inability to create chances for themselves. We are always going to give a few a few chances upplaying so expansively. We defend well considering.Any half decent championship striker would score goals in this side.
