I think us bringing in the lad from Cov ends the Webster interest. To say he was at the training ground must show they weren't happy with his fitness. I don't think we're in a position to gamble on players at the moment.

Smallbone is a box-to-box midfielder...maybe he could play further forward? But then again could Peck & Arblaster?

March is a good shout although he's not played much football for 2/3 years.
Yeah agree re Webster.

Smallbone is one Wilder has wanted for a while, he generally eventually gets his man.

I really hope we explore March.

With the window now shut we need to be scouring the free agent market. Some impressive names here, obviously someone like Benzema isn't going to come (I know, crazy right) but I feel some could be within reach. Sterling played for Feyenoord reportedly on around £35kpw. I feel a wage of this amount could tempt some of these names on the list.

Realistic:
Can Bozdogan – Central Midfield | ~£8k–£15k/wk
Marcel Beifus – Centre-Back | ~£5k–£10k/wk
Étienne Youté Kinkoué – Centre-Back | ~£8k–£15k/wk
Will Smallbone – Central Midfield | ~£20k–£25k/wk
Zé Carlos – Right-Back | ~£5k–£12k/wk
Ralph Orquin – Left-Back | ~£5k–£10k/wk
Oleksiy Gutsulyak – Right Winger | ~£10k–£15k/wk
Sasa Zdjelar – Defensive Midfield | ~£15k–£25k/wk
Lucas Rodríguez – Attacking Midfield | ~£8k–£15k/wk
Jordan Sierra – Central Midfield | ~£8k–£15k/wk
Ryotaro Ito – Attacking Midfield | ~£10k–£15k/wk
Alan – Attacking Midfield | ~£10k–£15k/wk
Aziz Ganiev – Central Midfield | ~£8k–£15k/wk
Felipe Carballo – Central Midfield | ~£15k–£25k/wk
Daler Kuzyaev – Central Midfield | ~£15k-£25k/wk
Adam Webster – Centre-Back | ~£35k–£50k/wk

Plausible:

Diogo Leite – Centre-Back | ~£25k–£35k/wk
Vincent Sierro – Central Midfield | ~£15k–£25k/wk
Amir Hadziahmetovic – Defensive Midfield | ~£15k–£25k/wk
Abdoulaye Touré – Defensive Midfield | ~£15k–£25k/wk
Ghislain Konan – Left-Back | ~£20k–£35k/wk
Moatasem Al-Musrati – Defensive Midfield | ~£25k–£35k/wk
Krépin Diatta – Right Midfield | ~£25k–£40k/wk
Carlos Júnior – Right Winger | ~£20k–£35k/wk
Youcef Atal – Right-Back | ~£15k–£25k/wk

Wingers
Oleksiy Gutsulyak – Right Winger
Krépin Diatta – Right Midfield
Carlos Júnior – Right Winger

Diatta and Junior both of decent pedigree. Diatta is a full current Senegal international, his goal involvement outputs aren't great but he has been deployed as a wing back for Monaco.

Junior's make for better reading, but questionable quality of opposition (Saudi Pro League) and I would imagine he was on a wedge over there. I would be looking primarily at this lad.
Alan?

Not the one from Porktalk?

Wouldn't it be more accurate to describe him as unattached rather than a free agent?

Not sure how many of these got clubs in the last 2 weeks but this was the free transfer pre-season list from the PFA on the 17th August.

We shouldn’t be anywhere near this list, it reads like a who’s who of past it league 1 and 2 players.

However, we’re more likely to be in for Connor Wickham or Starvin’ Marvin than any of the overseas list!

Any player who's still free agent now is probably not worth considering. Especially when there's already a bunch of reclamation projects in the squad.

think burrows not being sold eases the issue of bringing a left winger in at a push he could play wide left although did like donovans little cameo down that side on tuesday night could use him there once chong is fit for the other side personally i still think weve enough in the squad to survive this season comfortably

Some folk are forgetting that 2x of our better players were signed as frees after the window last season!
There’s definitely some interesting foreign lads on that list, if I was playing Champ Man I’d be all over them! Haha.
However, back to reality and I think a player like Ryan Kent is realistic and worth a go. Apparently he’s been putting the ‘work in’ off the pitch according to a Scottish rag.
I was surprised Matondo didn’t sign after being on trail as the vibe seemed generally good about him.
Kent and Matondo?

I wouldn't be too surprised if we went back Matondo on a short term deal.
Just need more options. And he has pace.

Kent would probably be worth taking as a 30 minute sub. A deal till January might be mutually beneficial

Just for fun, I'd love to see Mahrez, Coutinho, Pogba, Alli or Sterling playing no10 for us, whenever they could be bothered, this season.

Cliche, but the best ability is availablity. First metric to check is - did they play 30+ games last season? Were the missed games due to fatigue and/or tactics or injury? If the answers are no/injury, they shouldn't even be getting in the room to discuss terms.

If only the club had someone who is a billionaire through pioneering personalised medical treatment, and research. He could then set up a company that could focus on healing injured footballers, and avoiding sicknotes. That could be useful and save the club a bob or two.......................................
