Do you seriously think Wilder would stand for a player being signed without his say so?

Do you seriously think McCabe would risk losing his best manager in years, just to sign Ched? Who do you think he values most at SUFC? Wilder or Ched?

The underlying question is I must be stupid if I answer 'yes'.

So, in order to offer a response that throws further light on my view, I don't read minds or make spurious suggestions based on hearsay. What I do know is, a leek has appeared that begs a number of questions. I can't answer them, neither can you. What I do know is this, with all the previous history surrounding the colossal fuck-up of McCabe's previous attempt to sign Evans, it seems that the carpet's been pulled from under the club's feet where this announcement was concerned. As I've stated elsewhere, I hope Wilder is the person who said, "I want Evans, go get him for me".

The one thing I hope it doesn't do is upset the teams fantastic bond and togetherness.
That's one of the things that's made the difference this year is that the players totally get on with each other.

There are many morally dubious aspect to our beloved sport, this one is also dubious. I can't say I was particularly keen on the idea, but now it seems to be happening I am curiously indifferent. Indeed, there is a part of me that always believes in giving a person another chance. I could not agree more with you and hope that Wilder as a minimum is comfortable with the situation. And Wilder being as strong and determined character as he is, I believe we can assume he is.

And a price of "up to £500K"? I think we need to grasp that we are being promoted to the Championship if we think that is expensive even for a player that has not played all season.

I never said it was expensive, I only mentioned that Evans had scored less than our fullback. In whatever division that doesn't exactly equate with half a million pounds.

Apologies IIYB, my comment about expense was a comment about the deal overall, not about your post. But now we here.. like your view that it would be good to know Wilders position in all this, we also don't know how much the deal actually costs.

After the amazing season we've had, this is the last thing we should be considering, certainly before the season has finished anyway, purely because it's going to divide the fans, and we really don't deserve this season to end in that way.

It's undone for me.
Wouldn't touch Evans with a bargepole after what he did and the damage it did to the club.
It's about integrity to me and everything about that whole episode stank.
We're now going to have 'Ched Evans, he shags who he wants' chants back and Evans being hero worshipped.
United should be better than that.
When's football chants ever been PC.

The thing is, the more you think about it, what is £500k on a striker these days?

It's a great price for a Championship quality striker.

Unfortunately it looks like the price we're paying for a 28 year-old average League 1 striker, with questionable fitness and only one year left on his contract.

This is true, and doesn't tell anyone how a deal is structured or staggered. If part of this deal, assuming it goes through, is based on targets delivered (games played as well as goals scored etc) then time will tell if it's a good deal for the club. I hope it turns out to be, that means we'll have a player signed who has contributed to our further success.

Here's an idea.

However the Evans thing pans out, don't let it :(

So the great memories of this season will now be tainted in some way by signing Ched? Yeah right!

It's all well and good saying you trust Wilder implicitly, but how many of the lads in our team are gonna be thinking they're playing with a rapist? How many are pissed off that his signing got more headlines than our promotion? Sharp is on course to bag 30 goals this season and now we're going through all this fucking hoo-hah to sign a bloke who scored 7 goals last season? Total madness from every single individual involved in this deal. Wilder's first huge fuck-up IMO, there is just no way the benefits outweigh the negatives with this one, no way.

All be signed and sealed after the Chesterfield game. Spoke to some more sources and seems clear the amount is around 150k with another payment dependant on staying up.

I can see everyone opinions on this, and we all need to recognise everyone is entitled to there opinion even if it differs to your own.

People need to remember he isn't a replacement for Sharp he's a replacement for McNulty or Done. If they both go we still have space for a new striker to come in.

I'll go with none.

The issue is that you just don't know - there's a big chance this sort of signing could really upset seemingly the strongest team spirit we've had in years. There's no doubt Evans is now a divisive figure in football. Why bother with him? He's not even proven in the league above! Ridiculous on almost every single level this deal.

Which changing room has he divided? Chesterfield's?

Don't forget as well that Mitchell was probably involved in his move to Chesterfield before he came to The lane so will have done due diligence on him twice now.
Unlikely, Paul Mitchell left Chesterfield in April 2016, 2 months before Evans signed for Chesterfield. He never worked with Danny Wilson, who along with Morgan must have been behind his signing.

He transfer listed them because as a Blade he saw what we all saw last season, he didn't have to play them. I bet you he's glad he did now.

This is one of those, it could go either way. IF Wilder chose to sign Evans and it goes well he'll be glad he did sign him, if it goes wrong he'll be out of the door in no time.

Evans will have it put to him very simply, if he doesn't perform he'll be gone, he'll want to prove a point and he'll be hungry.

I saw a rumour thread earlier, Robbie Keane... which would you prefer? Robbie Keane on 10k+ or Ched Evans (500k upfront, but probably lower wayes and 7 years younger)
No brainer

Can't have too many strikers. Billy, Leon, lavery Hanson and Chedwyn looks fine to me. Tarrar Mark, Matty Jonh O. This lot fed by Coutts , Fleck, Sammie and Duffs will rip it up......trust Chris!

I'm over the shock of this news now. Let's just get on with it. I'm sure CW will work his magic on getting the best out of Evans, come what may...Oh, and if CW sanctioned the release of this news to further demoralise Chesterfield just ahead of Sunday's game, it could be a stroke of genius. :)

No of course not, but it's a real shame that after the amazing season we've had, after Wilder has brought the club & fans together, we now find ourselves in a position where the fans are divided over whether we should sign Ched or not, I'm worried things might get a bit tasty on Sunday when we have the inevitable "he'll shag who he wants" chants.

I'm completely bewildered by this news. As Whitehawk said earlier, we don't deserve this after this season, especially this week. I'm not sure I support the idea of Ched coming back or not. But what I do know is that I didn't want to be immersed in another Ched related drama this week. THIS WEEK???!!!! FFS United, why oh why have you tainted our celebrations with this??? Unbelievably careless timing imo. We didn't deserve it.
