This was a video yesterday of the pig stewards not letting near on a thousand fans in after being escorted from town. The whole escort was a farce, police crushing everyone on to trams and then apparently the tram broke down and they penned us on infirmary road for half hour or so until they decided what they were going to do. As we got to the ground having missed both our first two goals there was one turnstile open and for some reason the stewards weren’t letting people through even though fans were getting crushed. I’ve shared this on twitter and hope it goes viral to let the world see that all these years on and they’ve still not learnt at hillsborough.

Ps; hope the video works I’m not an avid poster on here more of a voyeur.

It's embarrassing how pathetic the organisation was for this game, both from the police and SWFC.
I notice none of the media are mentioning this though, only that a few pubs had to shut down & a couple of arrests were made.
Maybe if some of our fans hadn't been forced to miss half the game they wouldn't have been quite so worked up.

It was disgusting by the police yesterday a complete and utter shambles! We left town around an hour and half before kick off and we're held at the tram stop. Then crammed on to the tram like a pack of sardines. We were on the tram for what seemed like an eternity and it was absolutely boiling people dripping with sweat. Even a police officer at the side of me had to radio through to try and let people off because of the heat. Then I think someone pushed the emergency stop button and people rushed to get off the tram. We were then kept penned in the streets by a dozen or so horses and more police officers. People just wanted to get to the match and watch the game. Tensions were rising as the police just kept us all stood there for no apparent reason. When we eventually got to the ground around 15 mins after kick off it was a free for all to get to the ground with hundreds of blades rushing to get in the ground only to find 2 turnstiles open. People kept coming and coming while us at the front literally got pushed up to the wall and turnstiles as you can see on the video. Personally I am gutted that I missed the first 2 goals after paying £42 for a ticket and leaving in good time to get to the ground before kick off. Way over the top by SYP and no need for it.

Ive already said this. Waiting for Danny04 to come riding in on his white charger to defend the Star. Maybe if I'd posted on twitter "l've heard" it would have more credence then " I was there"

Me and my brother jumped off a tram at Bamforth Street just before it got held up and decided to walk it down Langsett Road/Middlewood Road from there. Lucky not to get caught in the police escort as we made it in for kick off.

After the game got penned in then led up towards Leppings Lane tram stop via Parkside Road. Loads of scrubbers waiting on there trying to pick off any straggling Blades. Some fat mess in his 50s was weaving in and out of the coppers with a 'WAWAW' flag offering people out. This was promptly removed from him and last I heard was going to be hung upside down on London Road. Got kettled on there for ages before being moved up to Leppings Lane and rammed sardine style onto a 'Special' tram.

To be honest I'm amazed how they managed to make such a hash of things as we've taken double/triple those numbers to the sty and there has been less trouble/disruption.

That turnstile must be listed its that old.

Just heard on the Radio Sheffield News that the South Yorkshire Police declared their operation a "success".

Not like SYP to airbrush history is it?

With their roll call of great success like Orgreave, Hillsborough and the Rotherham child abuse. Once again the most inept police force in the country makes a complete hash of something very simple.

South_Stand, write to the SY Police and Crime Commissioner and make the overpaid fat cat bureaucrat earn his money for once.

This looks like an utter disgrace.

What possible justification can there be for not opening sufficient turnstiles up to let people in, who have already been unnecessarily delayed in getting to such a key game.

And when you bear in mind where this occurred, of all places in the entire country - to allow a crush to develop at Leppings Lane - woeful crowd management which beggars belief.

I would like to see this publicised nationally and for SYP & SWFC to both come out and explain the full circumstances and the justification for the decisions they took on the day.

Bad enough that the allocation was pitiful and the price was a total rip off. But the kettling near the tram, followed by this just smacks of treating United fans with sheer contempt.

Surely the national TV and press should be all over this?

It was the Pigs that had closed the turnstiles. There was a fat grinning head steward just bullshitting Blades fans. He soon stopped grinning when a copper told him in no uncertain terms to get these fucking turnstiles open now. The police were astounded that there weren't more gates open.

Fair enough Sean, But why did the Police prevent Blades from getting there on time in the first place - why not escort them rather than kettle?

Send it to the tabloids. One of them might pick it up and run with it.
Not the Sun though eh?

The Guardian may be the best bet for something like this. The thread on their article for the match said a few Blades work there too as journalists, so maybe they could pick it up?

That is quite frankly disgraceful. In all the places too...

I was also on one of those trams. Left the city centre with over an hour to kick off yet still wouldn't have seen kick off had I stayed on it. I was fortunate because I decided to get off and walk at the last stop they opened the doors at. Pretty much everyone else stayed on and from then on were trapped by the police.

The police were a total disgrace in how they dealt with our fans both before and after the game. Not to mention some of the bollocks on London Road afterwards. They had a very easy job to do and still fucked it up. But it's only what you'd expect from the most embarrassingly incompetent police force in the country.

It's absolutely fucking hideous given Hillsborough and SYP's history that crushing was ever a factor yesterday - both on the trams and now with this apparent issue with the turnstiles. It's staggering. I hope the media do pick up on it.

The tram ride back was horrendous. I broke my own matchday sweating record, and that's saying something. Why the hell they couldn't have arranged more trams at the correct times I have no idea. But after all, this is Sheffield isn't it.

I got a reply to my tweet, see belowDKkiW0VWsAAMKga.jpg

I've responded that reports of overcrowded trams forced people to pull the chord. They could've delayed Kick Off.

I wasn't there so can't speak for the actual situations but from what i've picked up, we had hundreds outside the ground at kick off, presumably home fans too.

I get that they need to maintain segregation, but they have a duty to police the crowds so that everyone gets into the ground safely. If that means a 15-30 min delay at the expense of TV schedules, then i am sorry but safety comes before TV revenues.

That being the case, If the police are unable to activate these powers, the game shouldn't be on TV again.

The response from SYP is bollocks. They held the trams up as they were struggling to stop pig fans dancing around in the road at Hillsborough corner. It happened a few times now and Blades fans always end up opening the emergency door release thing.

Just a thought but why not close Legends and the Rawson before derby games (and after given that loads of the scrubbers were hanging around after outside these same pubs to goad Blades on the tram after)?? They were quick enough to do it in town and on London Road? Entire police operation seemed to revolve around containing and disrupting our supporters and letting theirs do what they want.

Yeah i saw videos of Hillsborough corner, trams struggling to get through a potential flash point. The Police have also closed the Cricketers down in the past (others may be able to confirm this)

I'd love to have all the facts to put to the police, but to claim that their operation was a success needs to be challenged, even with basic info and short reports we can see that their operation was not considered a success by the away team fans. Its doubtful that the home fans considered it that way too.

The police will blame late arrivals, fans getting off trams, maybe even drunk fans.... I don't think its right to make comparisons to the events of almost 30 years ago. However, it would be good to know that the criteria which they use to claim the operation as a success.

That's a blatant lie. Pulling the cord had no effect and in any event that happened before Hillsborough corner after an officer asked the driver to open the doors because of the heat. The police horses and officers were already there and lined up before the doors were opened.

What do they do on the trams - do they try to segregate fans in the centre before they get on ? I saw someone mention that Wednesday fans were held up with Utd as well, that's surely a recipe for disaster.

Well, SYP and SWFC were complicit in the deaths of 96 people 28 years ago, so it hardly seems unlikely that the two would again cause so much trouble. They never will learn from their mistakes. As for the stewards at the Death Trap, ya pays peanuts, ya gets monkeys.

By the standards of SYPD, this was a success - nobody died. It seems obvious that the pigs and the cops made going to this match as difficult as possible for SUFC fans. A few diversionary stories about 'trouble' on London Road and Bessemer is meant to deflect attention from what could have been (another) disaster at the theatre of rust.

Good luck to any pigs going to the return fixture.

What do you expect from some cunts who can't even spell 'cord'.

I think it was D minor. The chord at the Lane will be B Sharp.
