Crank up the atmosphere

Worth having a look at Klopp's press conference. They play Burnley mid-day on Sunday, and in order to ensure a good atmosphere he wants all Liverpool fans in bed at 10 the night before, and no drinking, so they wake up raring to go. So, get yourselves off to bed early tonight - we all have a job to do tomorrow...

Sorry HBT, I've just started on the blood orange cointreau. It was that or the expresso liqueur mixed with Bailleys and liquor 43. I might make it tomorrow, but if not, no flowers please, donations to Cancer Research and Cats Protection League.

Lost cause with some of the boring twats in The Lane upper despite all my best efforts ... they did sing once when we went 3-1 up against Derby .. I’ll tresure that moment,,,,, it was like Leicester & Darlington all rolled into one

Only on here could a rallying call from our finest manager in my life time turn into a moan about our loyal supporters.

Some sing some don't. It won't change. End of.

Nail on head!

I understand the frustration, I really do, but some of us often prefer to sit silently stewing in our own juices throughout a match. I can be incredibly vocal when the mood takes me, but I have never been a serial chanter. Just because I am sat there chewing my finger nails, in preference to joining in with whichever song is doing the rounds doesn't make me less of a supporter. If I could bottle the inner tension and anxiety that I normally endure throughout the majority of most matches then I wouldn't be lining the pockets of any power provider any time soon.

I’ve stopped going to games regularly. I went on Monday night and that was the first game I went to since the home derby game in November. Prior to this season I went home and away, probably 30+ games a season.

I’m 35 and have had a season ticket since I was about 12 (including this season). Next year will probably be the first year I won’t renew since I was a kid.

And I feel like this despite us being in a great position as a club, great manager, players, all good.

I love United and I always will do. I’ve done it all, been all over the country, play offs, cup games, the league 1 years, the premier league, never missed anything that I can remember.

One of the reasons for this is how shite the modern game has become.

‘Supporters’ sat down in their seats taking selfies to post on social media, streaming other games whilst at the Lane, constantly checking scores (for betting purposes mainly), betting in play and whatever else they do on phones.

Young chavs all wearing the same pair of Adidas trainers snorting shit coke pretending to be off their nut and posturing behind lines of coppers yet running away when anything actually happens.

Kids being taken to games, encouraged to adore overpaid, under-talented, couldn’t care less, poor role model footballers (not directed at us specifically).

Going to games on Monday nights, Saturday mornings, Sunday dinner time, to suit Sky TV who pump all the unneeded money into the game.

I’ve had some great times watching the Blades, especially when my dad took me as a kid. I’ve been through thick and thin, nobody could ever question my love and loyalty. However, I’m not insane. There comes a point when I have to think “what am I doing?”

I’ll now be spending more time playing football with my kids, rather than taking them to sit and watch.

Apart from all that I’m really happy.

For me, your post is one of the best posts I’ve ever seen in regards to the state of modern football. You’ve summed it up perfectly.

I think it's an oldie thinking back nostalgically at 'better times' by comparing the worst of this generation to the best of the previous.

I sit in the SS with my dad gangway B, joining in loud and proud with the kop. Not ideal, wish more joined in, but there's no chance it would stop me going to watch the best football the city has seen for years.

Please can those in the middle of the South Stand join in as well !? Just a little bit, not for long, but just now and again.

We sit centre South stand and we do join in - I actually take exception to your suggestion.

There's a good bunch behind us that kicks things off - but I accept SS is much better when there is a decent away following and G&H burst into life. Rotherham should bring a few today hopefully and a generally full lower tier certainly helps.

Wilder asks the fans to crank up the intensity amongst the support tomorrow. I hope when Rotherham park the bus that we all keep bang at it. We need to drive them over the line.

"crank up the atmosphere"
"park the bus"
"drive them over the line"

I came on here to escape from work euphemisms!

Do you think it will be a "quantum leap" and "paradigm shift" if Rotherham were to get something from today's game? And how would that look, "going forwards" for them?

I actually hope it's a simple case that we are "lucky bastards" and win 2 nil with 2 deflected goals to make up for their 2 at the NYS.

A large part of the matchday for me is the craic. I love walking in the pub before the game, having a drink, a laugh, getting ‘involved’. I sit quiet in my house so matchday is my ‘release’ as it were. Work all week, the banality of going home and tidying up etc gets to me. I know not everyone is like that but I am. So when I have others tutting at me for singing ‘you fill up my senses’ louder than a hushed mumble, I get annoyed. It’s 90 minutes of your week. Let the hair down

I've seen a fair few supping and watching on the screens. But you can do that at home.

In the vast majority of other nations, you can sup beer out of a plastic cup while watching the game. It's a stupid, outdated rule. You can drink as much as you like, as long as it isn't "in view of the pitch". What kind of bollocks is that? It even applies in the exec boxes ffs

With the advent of live TV in the concourses, it seems you can legally drink and be in view of the pitch - as long as your view of the pitch has been digitally scrambled and then unscrambled first.

If this is the case, perhaps the law could be circumvented by wandering onto the kop with a pint wearing a VR headset.

BTW - What’s the last line to the “Mind the gap, Sheffield Wednesday” song?

People tut at me for wearing the wrong clothes in certain social situations, blowing my nose, speaking my mind and refusing nights out with the lads.

Who cares?

I don’t care if they tut. I’ll happily stand in front of them for 90 minutes just to be awkward. But I don’t. It’s literally seconds of their 90 minute afternoon. God help if the dog wags his tail walking past the tele while EastEnders is on... because it’s the same thing (except I don’t wag my tail - not until the toilet anyway).

Sometimes it would be nice to feel like you're at a meaningful football match...

The weather, the kick off time, the opposition, minds on the games to come may all have affected the atmosphere, but it wasn’t great.

Expect it to be better on Tuesday under lights.

I’ve watched Leeds a few times this season on sky - how come their fans can create an atmosphere?

Probably because they have plenty of those rare specimens whose legs work to the extent that they can stand up for 90 minutes a week.
