Anyone remember them !
This bunch of lads coming through (21s ) are the last I think they were involved with before Man Utd pinched them ( Travis Binnion,Nick Cox and one other I can't remember his name,)
It's obvious why they pinched them ,they are excellent in what they do.
Hopefully our latest coaches scouts etc will be continuing there excellent
Work.

They were great yes - but the current players coming through have absolutely nothing to do with the names you mentioned - who have been gone for years now.
Credit is to Jack Lester, Del Geary and the excellent staff they’ve put in place.

I wrote about the similarities between Binnion's career path and that of Premier League manager Kieran McKenna.

Sadly, I don’t think that anyone at BDTBL is progressive enough even to consider the slightest sniff of a hint of a possibility that Travis Binnion could be our manager.

Some of these not all would have been scouted by the Nick Cox's team, players who came to the club as very young players who were above average for there age group at the time .Blaster, Marsh and Brookes.
amongst a few others.
They have been developed by coaches since Cox & Co left so our youth coaches deserve credit for that.
What counts now is the latest young lads we scout as they will be the ones talked about in 10 years time if they progress to the level required.

They both had there careers cut short due to injury and took up coaching at a very young age, they are both still very young.

True story about Travis Binnion is that he had the potential to be a world class cricketer. He was playing cricket at the same time as football, and was far better at cricket. He was by far the best of his age group and he was already being watched by the England selection committee as one for the future. He was viewed as nearly international level standard at under 19.

Binnion got selected for Sheffield United's academy and his cricket coach asked the Blades to allow him to continue playing cricket whilst he played football in the academy, that way if he didn't go pro as a footballer then he would definitely go pro as a cricketer. United refused and gave Binnion the choice, football or cricket.

The result? Binnion never went pro as a footballer and England lost a potential future cricket star.

The coach still stays in contact with Travis today and he still says his biggest regret in his career was not being able to convice Travis to choose cricket.

Hopefully we realise that just appointing ex-players is not the way to go. Binnion did well with the youth but nothing to suggest he’s a Championship manager in waiting.

All of the spadework for how the academy now operates was initially put in place by Cox and has subsequently been continued by those who have come since. The exceptional crop coming through now is absolutely a part of the Cox & Binnion legacy.
