Shows how poor this division is when you can play as poorly as we did there and still win

Thought they looked bang average , typical mowbray team keep possesion round the back four with not much threat and fall to the ground like autumn leaves in a stiff breeze

Wish we had a good side as surely this trend of league one getting progressively worse every year cant continue for much longer

I agree, thought Coventry played some good football no end result, we battled hard but had no invention, yes poor league 1 team that get the jtw right could could storm this league.

I still think we could do it if we bring the right players in
Not sure we will though

Our team selection and tactics were all about stopping them, outmuscling, bullying them, defending deep and denying them space in the last third. Our strikers often dropped down to mark their central midfielders, and when they got the ball forward we were very aggressive.

It was quite extreme tactics, often used by underdogs for away games or cup ties, and Coventry may not have expected that when they came to Bramall Lane. If our aim with that team had been to make it an entertaining, open and attacking game of football, we may have seen a better performance from them.

Agreed, and we would probably have conceded 2 or 3 and lost the game.

Agree 100%. We harried, kicked, hassled and marked tightly. It was a good game plan but we lack the creativity to make chances ourselves. I thought Mowbray's substitutions handed us the initiative.

Mobray's subs and the addition of Scougall and Sharp gave their defenders little time to settle.Kudos to the Beard .Done and Long.

Thought that was a good battling performance. Lucky as we were we at least showed a lot of grit. Good old fashioned Blades victory. Unbeaten since the beard's return.

And incredibly our record against the sides currently occupying the top 5 places of the division is W2 D2 L1, with 4 of those matches being away from home. Not a bad record by any stretch of the imagination.

get out of jail card used today .

deff a sending off and a hand ball also ball over the line but we hung on and nicked a goal that may just give the players some believe we are turning the corner

Yeah just a pity we haven't beaten a team in the bottom four

Not sure I would liken Mcev's challenge to 'an Autumn breeze'...definitely a northwesterly force 8 or so..

Was the ball def. over the line? Hard to see on TV

Battling certainly, good never. This is a team that lacks any kind of pace, which coupled with a lack of invention makes them simply awful to watch.

I thought the tactics of letting them have the ball in there own half was similar to cloughs tactics when we were playing well, difference is when we won the ball we attacked with pace with flynn, Brayford, Murphy, Harris, scoogal, coady etc charging at them, now when we win the ball back nothing much happens, no drive, no pace, no confidence, hard to know how things will change, live in hope I suppose.

I'm glad you've said this as I didn't think Cov were that good either. Reading some of the comments on here you'd think they were Barcelona or something.

From my view on the kop near the corner flag, I thought the ball didn't go over the the line and BTW so did my mate the linesman .

Agreed bergen about time we dished out what we have been getting all season. We have match winners so a performance like that can always produce a win, teams have been doing that too us for the last 4 seasons so it pleased me no end to get the win.
Coventry also did there share of nasty niggling fouls so as I said in another post ; tough shit;

Ha if we are average that must make Sheffield utd very poor? You got your lucky win today no need to call us bang average haha. Not sure about us keeping the ball around our back 4 we tried to play forward and made a few good chances to score and we would of if wernt for some good defending and some bad luck on our part. I lost count the amount of times your midfielders passed backwards when they had the ball near our pen box. Also a few people have commented on the 'poor standard of the league' and they have been fans of teams who are outside he playoffs, bitterness perhaps? Earlier this season I watched Barnsley who are near the bottom of this shite standard leauge take a fully strengthed Everton side all the way to extra time in the leauge cup! Congratulations on your win anyway don't wanna come across bitter it's just a lot went against us today!

You looked flimsy and lightweight in fact when we went 1-0 up you totally lost the plot and could have lost 2 or 3 nil
And i think we are as bad as i have ever seen us

If you take the time to read this forum you may just get the hint that we thought we were a) awful, and b) lucky. That doesn't mean that Coventry were anything other than average. Sure, Armstrong is a good player and if Newcastle elect to keep him there in January or send him to the Championship then you'll have problems. Other than that, there wasn't much to commend you. You didn't score, and it wasn't as if Collins didn't give you enough chances now did he?

Was it definitely over the line? There wasn't much protest from the Coventry players??

We were poor today just as we have been poor all season and rode huge slices of luck...

...however I never feel sorry for the opposition is these circumstance as we have had more bad luck, bad decisions, blatant cheating and unfairness dumped on us for the last decade than any club ever and no one feels sorry for us (nor should they)

sorry but I'll take the lucky win and don't give a toss about the opposition.

Looks pretty inconclusive to me. As for the commentator (was it Birtles?) saying it looked over the line, how can he say that? Long's body was obstructing any clear view of the line and the ball.

Also, through my red and white striped spectacles the alleged hand ball looked like a shoulder to me.

Spot on I think. Coventry are easily capable of getting promotion, you have the sorts of players I could only dream of having at United. Jacob Murphy and Lameires, two of the best in this league. I don't know whether you grasp just how poor we are as a club though, which must make your defeat today that bit harder to take. Well done to you, a proper club going about things the proper way, and it will go to show how much of an important factor that is when you're finishing 2nd, and we're finishing mid-lower end come May time.

I'm speechless!
