Last season we dominated possession in most games.

This season, we're going to be pinned back much more often (as we were badly in the first half).

At the end of the first half we had no way out. We were basically penned in our own half, lumping balls to their defenders.

We need and outball and we need to be able to counter attack.

At the moment we either have long hopeful balls to strikers not good in the air and with little pace or slow passing through the midfield. Unless someone goes on a run (as Basham did a couple of times tonight), we're going to struggle to get upfield.

I'm not sure this can be rectified by 2 or 3 signings and it worries me.

Not news though is it? We need to develop a counter attacking game and that means pace.

Probably a more eloquent version of my OP. As team's get wise to us, I fear we will be very easy to stop and very one dimensional. We need a fitter, younger, brighter spine. Coutts NGE, fleck looks rusty, Leon and billy are over 30 (aren't we all dear) and our pace comes from the oldest player in the squad.

True, but it's not just pace though. We moved the ball far too slowly. Boro were one-touch passing it around us whilst we struggled to make a 5 yard pass at times.

We were too slow in thought and deed when it came to passing.

Maybe, but if you have a quick lad looking to run in behind then you can play quicker balls, often without looking. Even at my shitty level of 5-a-side, it's the run that makes the pass, not the other way around....

Fleck went on a couple of runs but I think it'll come, confidence on the ball with less time to think is needed, and thankfully that will hopefully develop in the coming games, unlike Leon Clarkes 100M sprint career haha

Having cooled down, I'm disappointed because we're better than that but we won't play many as good as that this season.
