Do you think this could ever happen?

I had a little think about this before and it crossed my mind that Sheffield being a two club city could be what holds both clubs back from challenging traditionally bigger clubs like Man Utd, PNE, Leeds Utd and Liverpool in terms of prestige and gloriousness.

If you merged the clubs into one then sold Bramall Lane and Hillsborough and used the cash to build a purpose built 70,000+ mega stadium you would probably be loads more sucessfull and maybe one day be english champions like PNE have been.

My suggestion for the new clubs name would be 'The Steel City Stripers' and you could play in red & blue stripes and red & blue halved shorts and red & blue hooped socks.

Could this ever happen of is it just a pipedream?

Oh not this old chestnut. Why?

Oh I SEE why now.

Shenanigans.

I'll give the usual response..

We could merge, sell the suburban rustbucket, keep the sheffield from the wednesday, and the united from sheff utd, keep.the white stripe from wednesday and the red from united.

And because we are uniting the 2 sheffield teams, we'll call them sheffield united..

Whats this guy on about definate fcukin NO

What makes people think that the people of sheffield would support this new team?
For me it would be the sole reason my club (SUFC) was destroyed and therefore I would detest them.
It is the world's most ridiculous suggestion / arguement that shouldn't even warrant a discussion.

I'd rather see United play out the rest of their days in League Two than have a merged Sheffield club win the Champions League.

I'd have as much connection and passion to the new club as I currently have towards Brackley Town or Vauxhall Motors.

The day United cease to be is the day I'm done with football.

I reckon a better option would be to merge Preston and Blackpool into one little club that nobody cares about rather than two... They could play in Blackpool in an orange kit and be call the Blackpool big one

How's that sound?

This topic has been dealt with before.

Each Sheffield club may have around 35,000 or more supporters, but many of them still support their club, even though they have no ties with the city of Sheffield.

If the teams merged, then the vast majority would NOT support the merged club and like United of Manchester would create their own club, hence the merged club would probably have less supporters than the individual clubs do today, unless the new club was named United, because that means joined together, played near the centre of Sheffield, i.e. in the oldest ground in the world where professional football is played, hence Bramall Lane, and as Sheffield is a very Labour city, played in Red and White stripes.

Pipedream? More like f'ckin' nightmare, mate! :D

Anyway, no-one would buy a kit like that :(

Not this shit again, for a start we would need a ground near the city centre and train station, plenty of multi storey car parks close by and plenty of eating places and pubs near by. Seeing as we both play in striped shirts we could take the red from ours and the white from theirs then we would just need a name, as two teams were merging they would have to be called Sheffield United.
Does that answer the phuckin dumb question ?

Dear Big Aubery

for a serious Blades forum that was a pathetic question.

Under normal circumstances I would ask you to re-arrange OFF and FUCK but seeing as you no doubt have the average intelligence of a pig fan and would therefore be incapable of any kind of mental stimulus such as the above I will work it out for your zero IQ brain.......FUCK OFF.

Regards

Ah, I get it, Aubrey (or should that be Audrey?) dear chap, you have no understanding of what makes football in Sheffield the spice of life.

There exists an antagonism based on long-standing mythology. S6 represents all that is woeful in this world of strife and unhappiness. No doubt in balmy (or should that be barmy) California you dream of a world based on ideals, well we have one such ideal already, perfect colour combination, exciting manager, we're financially solvent, and we aren't in hock to other people who have credit notes on our ground. Surely you can see that we have no need to educate those S6 cretins in the way of civilised behaviour? You do get that, don't you?
