Could Micheal Smith be this years Hanson?

He was impressive yesterday for Rotherham, he would give us an option when we need to go long like yesterday or against the pigs. his problem is he does not score enough so would be in our price / wages bracket. Would like someone better but whilst the board are a joke, he would be a practical option.

The main point is we need plan B now or season will go like last and my heart will not take another day of long balls to sharp against a 6ft + defender (they all are).

Genuinely, what makes you think we could afford the fee for Rotherhams most important attacker? Even if we wanted him he'd cost between £1-2m

We just won't play to the strengths of a player like that very often. Even when we did, we wouldn't be very effective doing it.

If we were to sign a player like that I'd prefer Kieffer Moore. Last pre season at Rotherham he was more impressive than Smith was yesterday. And at Oakwell last season. He's also got a goalscoring streak in him.

If we cannot afford a couple of Million, we can say goodbye to Chris, before we put a dark stain on his career. As for Kieffer I agree he looks good, I do not pretend to know all the players out there, but I watched Smith closely yesterday from behind the goal, not on TV and he was a right handful for all out centre backs, a lot more than Clarke ever is. He also put a great cross in the first half that they should have scored from.

My frustration is we need a plan B. I love the football we are playing, but even England showed that a long throw once in a while can make a significant difference, we are now getting stuck in the corners all the time.

Keiffer Moore would be a better option, but the Dingles seem to have grown some resolve this last year and are holding out for bigger fees (Bradshaw) or actually hanging on to players. Cant see them letting him go for less than £2/3m (especially to us as their small knob syndrome towards anything Sheffield related would come in to play). And theres no way we’re paying out £2m+ for a bit-part, off-the-bench plan B option.

A player like that should only be brought in on the cheap. We have to spend everything we have on players who will fit into our way of playing and seriously strengthen us. More squad players means an inevitable repeat of last season.

Maybe Tom Eaves could be a good cheap option.

I was going to suggest Eaves and he looks a decent option. I can't see Wilder going for a League One player though based on his summer comments on player recruitment, unless things have changed. A loan from the Premier League is more likely but hopefully not some 18 year old that is playing their first games at this level like Woodburn.

What we could do with is another Brian Deane, but the chances of finding someone of that calibre given the way the big clubs hoover up any young talent these days is very remote.

A couple of loanees are probably our best option, given our position in the division and style of play I would have thought that we might be a reasonably attractive destination for a young player wanting to prove his ability to play under pressure. Henderson appears to be relishing it here

Prefer to buy obviously but seeing as how our owners have chosen to fall out and get legal with each other when we finally have a manager and backroom staff we can rely on then loans are probably the best option for us.

I stand by that we went up in spite on Hanson, not because of him. We would’ve won the league anyway, he was a complete carthorse, who I felt hindered us.

We do need a big guy though, none of our strikers can win a bloody header!

Tom Eaves would take up next to fuck all of our budget as he’s out of contract at the end of the season. He’s league ones version of Andy Carroll, would be a better signing.

A Barnsley season ticket holder told me Moore isnt good enough for Championship. He is strong and good in the air but is slow and not too good on the ground. Neither Moore no Smith are the players we are looking for.

Hanson was signed for two reasons. Teams were playing very deep and very narrow against us so we had the ball wide a lot with no height in the box.He gave us the height.
