Could Brayford play Defensive Midfield?

He couldn't be any worse than Howard.

Which two would you partner him with Herby? Baxter being one i guess?

Probably Coutts and Baxter at the minute and move Basham to the back to replace Mr Soft. At least we'd have a decent footballing midfield.

I can certainly understand your frustration. I prefer to have the players playing in their natural position though. It drove me crackers with how many players played out of position last season, how you can get in that much of a mess is laughable really.

From Saturday's line up Edgar thinks he's best in midfield. Kieron Wallace has played more in midfield than left back. Many would say Coutts is better centrally, while others prefers Basham at centre half. Baxter has been playing in a number of attacking positions, but not too much in holding midfield. Right footed Flynn has also been playing more on the right than on the left the last couple of years. Some even prefer him at right back.

If it's congested maybe there's a need for people making forward runs on and off the ball...
Agreed bergs. I think Scouggs contributes in this way but hasn't really had many chances since we went to a 2 man midfield, maybe Brayford could do this but wouldn't you want our best right back playing right back?

I'd be happy with him at right back, but the main thing is that we get the balance right, players complementing eachother, and a team that's greater than the sum of its parts.

For example Warnock's great 2002/03 side used Jagielka mostly at right back. His 2005/06 promotion side used him mostly in central midfield. But few would argue today that his best position is not centre half.

interesting OP - but no for me.

He is a marauding RB who can get beyond his winger - anything defensive would take away one of his prime assets - pace.

Got a square peg/round hole smell to it - but good point to make.

No one has actually mentioned Mceverly for "left back in the dressing room yet" ;) i'll get my coat.

Now before i start I know this is slightly hypocritical of me as i hate that we always seem to play square pegs in round holes.
But with Freeman one of our only decent players playing at right back and the return of the beard imminent i was thinking maybe we could try him in the CDM and leave Freeman to continue at right back?

Brayford is full of energy, aggression, can head, tackle, pass, dribble and shoot and more importantly he is a winner and a leader who i feel could give us the drive from midfield that we are desperately lacking at the minute.
He should also be a shoe-in to receive the armband.

I am just looking at possible in-house solutions as it doesn't appear likely we are going to sign a player any time soon.

Feel free to shoot me down and tell me I'm talking bollocks :)
If you hum it he'll play it

I get what you're saying Bergs and it's a good post with good oservations but on this occasion i personally think it would serve us better to play Brayford at RB and bring in a midfielder to do the job a midfielder is supposed to.

Bearing in mind the form of Kieron Freeman and the lack thereof from our various permutations at centre half, I'd be sticking Bray in as No. 5 on his return, at least in the short term.

I would be tempted to give Scougall a try in the 3

Did you have your hand over your eyes when reading the opening sentence of my post or was you just that desperate to post a smart arse picture?

Yeah it was basically this wasn't it...

"Now before i start I know this is slightly hypocritical of me as I hate driving cars into the canal but we have here a very expensive car so if we try driving this car into the canal maybe this one will turn into a speedboat and won't sink to the bottom"

I think that was the general gist of it.

Agree with you there.

You can't post any suggestions/ideas on these forums without getting shouted down and taken the piss out of. Doesn't half grind my gears.

It's a shame blades fans would do that to each other just for the sake of a few likes or what ever they're after.
