It’s no longer the fashion to have players on each post when defending corners. I can’t remember when it ceased to be a thing, to be honest.

But, for me, it’s probably cost us four points this season. Both Coventry’s equaliser a few weeks back and West Brom’s first goal yesterday would almost certainly have been cleared off the line had we had someone on the back post on each occasion.

Anyone else think we should revert to the old way of doing it?

How many corners have we faced?
How many have we conceded?
How many have we defended well?

Would have made sense yesterday as without Souttar, Anel and Moore we were lacking height in the team.

When all our giants are playing we are probably OK but yesterday they dominated us at corners so having someone on the posts would have helped

This assumes the old way wouldn't have cost us points had it been adopted till now. The 2 extra men marking as opposed to defending posts might have saved us more than the 4 we've lost v WBA and Coventry

I'm guessing in this stats based game it's more productive to have the 2 players marking the opposition, rather than stood on the posts

Is anyone sadly old enough to remember the glory days of Div. 3 and our main attacking corner routine which involved Tom Heffernan?
He was the best header of a ball from a short corner that I've ever seen. One of our few successes at the time..
Used to stand near post and flick the ball on, creating a lottery behind him. Nobody could stop him.
I've seen one or two teams attempt similar but the art seems to have died out somewhat.
To deal with corners these days you need at least one big b++++d centre half and a good keeper.
We've got both

Toms debut was one of the best newcomer displays I have ever seen - alongside Vas

The front post flick on was all the range at the time. I remember Stoke had it to perfection

Stancliffe used to do it as well

Not so much costing us points but something else we don't do anymore is leaving a player up on halfway line for a fast counter/out ball.

Don't understand why we have everyone back in the box especially at home.

No one did it better than Stan the Man flicking it on in the 80s, for a United player to come steaming in at the back post to try and get the header in on goal.

I thought that myself yesterday👍

Back in the day John Flynn was the one ran into the box, usually towards the back post, he scored a few good goals another player that was underrated

This week, I've learned we need:
Wingers smashing in crosses from the by line.
Striker waiting on the centre spot.
Man on each post.

One thing I think we are missing is those wooden clackers that you whirl round to hoorah the team. And proper Casey's.

Stop prattin abart wi it an gerrit forrard!!

The Coventry equaliser was Souttar getting drawn under the ball and leaving his man unmarked. If he'd stayed with him, he doesn't score, man on the post or not.

Maybe we’d have conceded more if 2 of our players were marking the posts instead of players?!

This isn't very helpful(I realise) but there was a game (can't remember which) yesterday when a defender was standing on the line and he could have blocked a header from a corner on the line but ignored it - he may have been worried about handling it.

Saw that

Think it was Oldham v Shoreditch ?

Sam McCallum would be a shoe-in for the short corner flick on routine, when he's on the pitch.
We should work on it on the training ground! He never gets out jumped.
Best header of a ball ever!
