Corners

Someone needs to keep reed and scougall off them.

Didn't Wallace take some on Saturday?
Wallace took most of them tonight ,but like the guy above says ,when we do beat the first man we don't look like scoring . We towered over them tonight with Basham Edgar ,Collins and Sammon ,but for all the headers we won in our half we won hardly any in theirs.

If you can't beat the first man then you shouldn't be taking the corner or playing football really.

We can score from corners though and it's usually Collins who scores from a corner.

Even if we are shit at whipping the ball in, try something different. Drill a few in, pull some to the edge of the box, do something!
If we got to that part of the pitch 9 times in open play I'd expect us to do more than that with it, and we supposedly train corners everyday day/week.

Last night the corner taking was particularly abysmyl. It wasn't only that we didn't beat the first man it was they didn't even get the ball off the ground.

It wasn't planned either. Reed, Wallace, Scougall all tried and failed miserably, I was right by the corner and they seemed to scuff it. Saying that the worst of the lot resulted in us hitting the post so perhaps it was a cunning plan

awful! we had 9 corners and how many made it past the first man?

0? 1? 2?

I had a close up view of our second half corners taken from the right (Wallace, Scoogs, Woolford). Wallace and Scoogs used the same signals to deliver corners driven in low to bounce into the front post area - not easy to defend against. One of these got through in the first half and caused defensive problems and we almost scored from a similar delivery in the second half, when Edgar hit the bar. These were not "shit corners" that didn't beat the first man, they were deliberate. Problem being of course, when they don't work, they look like 'shit corners that don't beat the first man'. Woolford's corner to the far post which caused no threat to the opposition goal was roundly applauded, simply because it looked more like a 'normal corner'. Funny old game!

I think the plan was to drive them in. Trouble was, certainly with Scoogs first he totally mis hit it so it bounced and bobbled about four times before it reached their first man who easily booted it clear.

The corners were weak for large part

I cant think these corners were deliberately at the front post, looking at the reactions from Basham, Edgar and Collins suggest otherwise.

We have 3 huge targets in the box, who last night were taller than all the Burton players yet we gave them no chance with the corners,

Bit of a joke that we continue to deliver for the most part what can only be described as schoolboy corners. This coming after NA conceded that they had been working on dead ball deliveries/situations leading up to the game

The only decent corner we took last night was the last one, taken by Woolford. It was met at the back post by Collins and we nearly scored from the scramble
This is an ongoing problem. We don't seem to have a specialist Woody must be turning in his grave watching the dire attempts at landing. A good corner how would they go on with the old heavier balls

Completely agree, thought the corners were better on Saturday than they have been for a while. Set pieces still need so much work. When you're at the point of hoping the ball goes for a throw than a corner when we're on the attack, something is wrong.

Reed, Baxter, Freeman, Coutts and Wallace can all play the ball brilliantly, can cross so well, but they seem to be shite on Corners, Woolford can also be in that bracket, but right now i'd rather he weren't in the side.

Great post in which one of the mysteries of the game is revealed...and ignored.

We could clearly do with some improved outcomes but we've tried all sorts from corners this season*.

Floaters. Remember them?

*So much so we've obviously had no time left to practise throw ins.

I play at a low level and when our corner takers fail to beat the first man, it makes me want to smash their faces in. Imagine my face smash level when a Sheffield United player on thousands a week does it.

See i'm right footed and can't take a corner from the left wing. I can't bend my foot around the ball. I kick the flag. Ask me to take one from the right and it will out-swing perfectly to the penalty spot.

I remember (when I used to play Sundays) it was late on in the game. I was out on left wing and we were losing by 1. I won a corner but because we were trailing rather than wait for usual taker to come over everybody told me to take it. I kicked the flag before the ball and it just rolled along the floor barely reaching the box... I didn't take another corner after that. Not from the left anyway.

Never missed a penalty though
