Cooper

Wilder didnt know anything about the player, and has admitted in an interview since, that he had to ask Matt Duke (GK coach) to view footage of the player to see what he thought of Grbic before any deal was done. Its also been a bit of an open secret that this player was recommended to United and no doubt with him once playing for Croatia and United being desperate for a goalkeeper at that time (due to piss poor planning again before CW cam back in again for the 2nd stint), they had to move quickly. Unfortunately, we were sold a pup, and CW has mostly been sending the lad out on season long loans since then. Bottom line, he wasnt a CW target as Wilder knew feck all about him before he was signed. You can pin a few bad decisions on CW over his tenure at the club, but its unfair to give him the bollocks for this one. Tbf to CW after initially backing the new signing, he quickly realised be was horse shit and jettisoned him. You could say, he was showing good management there.

There's a contradiction here.

So Wilder asked Matt Duke to look at Grbic BEFORE the deal was done. But Wilder 'knew feck all about him before he was signed'.

Sometimes Wilder has to hold his hands up and accept responsibility for some things that are not right at the club. For him to become a little more mature would help those who question his position at the club.

As far as Cooper is concerned. I hope he returns having improved his distribution skills. The successful keepers nowadays can pass a ball like TC / Hoddle used to, He's been at the club long enough for United to sort this out.

A couple of speedy left and right sided offensive players would be ideal outlets for a keeper with good kicking skills.

Are you saying Wilder didn’t have the last say on his recruitment?

But apart from all that its still all wilders fault. Dont let facts get in way of a good agenda against somone.

Given Ivo just played 30 odd games in the Turkish top flight (albeit relegated), I doubt his performance can have been that much different to that of Cooper or Davies last season can it?

But I bet his wages are why we need rid. He’d need to be boss level to justify them in the Championship.

Are you saying Wilder didn’t have the last say on his recruitment?

No, im not saying that.

Im implying that some other party on Uniteds recruitment 'team' will have been leaning on him to get a quick decision on whether to go ahead or pass on Grbic and it was probably a 'we move for him now or we miss out on a Croation international goalkeeper'. Wilder will have known diddily squat about him at that point other than the players 'reputation' and available footage (which bearing in mind he had hardly played for a few years would have been minimal). In turn, CW will have asked his GK coach (MD) what he thought of the footage. MD probably said, he looks ok from the footage. So from there, they took a calculated risk that backfired. But in my mind, the 'blame' sits quite profoundly upon the turkey who recommended him and who would have been leaning on a quick decision needed or we 'miss out'. It was another example of dreadful lack of scouting and management of the situation all round by the transfer committee. To put it all on the shoulders of CW is just plain wrong. He might have had the final say of go or dont go with the deal but it should never have gone that far. Alternatively, are you saying CW knew a lot about this player personally and had been to scout him in the Spanish La Ligue reserves? Sorry, not buying it.

Further to this.... Wilder was rehired on 5th of December & we signed Grbic some time in January where he played a total of 0 games inbetween us signing him. Yet some will say he was a Wilder signing until they're blue in face.

Duke will have watched a YouTube highlight reel and said he looks oret, zero live scouting will have been done on him.

Grbic was a united world signing. Was agreed a good time before the January window( believe before Wilder rejoined) just had to wait for Atleti to sign a replacement in the window.

But there was the bad management of falling out with Wes, chucking him under the bus, naming Grbic as his number 1 before seeing him and leaving himself no “off ramp” when he turned out to be shit. Or does my memory fail me on those details?

We needed another keeper because Wilder called Foderingham out in public and had a massive falling out with him. He created the situation that meant we needed a new keeper.

You absolutely cannot absolve him of responsibility for this one. He wanted a keeper, his scouting/recruiting team found one, he signed him.

Shrugging your shoulders and saying ‘nowt to do wiv me’ is somewhere between dereliction of duty and gross misconduct.

I think I understand the situation now.

If a player signing is good and the fans like him, it was the recruitment team who deserve the plaudits.

If a player is bad and the fans dislike him, it's all on Wilder.

It's all pretty simple really.

I was correct then in saying that Wilder couldn't have signed Grbic as he is Croatian. So Wilder still only signs British players apart from maybe Berge.

As he did with Duffy when his wife took to Twitter saying he deserved a better contract?

Fodders let eight goals in against Newcastle, the club of which he is a fan.
Maybe Wilder had good reason to call him out?

I have absolutely no idea about things like whether Grbic was Wilder’s signing, or who scouted him (or not), but having stayed to the bitter end of that Newcastle game, I can categorically say that the reason we lost 8-0 was not that our keeper let them score 8 times because he likes Newcastle. We could have had two prime keepers in the net at the same time for those 90 minutes, and we would still have got battered.

Duffy didn’t do anything in his career subsequently that indicated he deserved a better contract. Wilder got that one right.

Foderingham hasn’t done anything since to indicate he deserved a new contract. Cooper is a far better keeper with a much higher value.

Maybe don’t be so stupid as to throw your first choice keeper under the bus without a decent backup?

It’s not that hard.

It’s not that hard.

He also threw Dean Henderson 'under the bus' once as I recall.

You dont think some players need bringing to book occasionally, if they drop their standards or demand excessive wages, trying to hold the club to ransom for better contracts? - think Lundstram.

I'm not saying that this was the case as I'm not party to the full details, though facts are often irrelevant and Wilder is always guilty until proven innocent.
