Not wanting to get ahead of ourselves here but I thought for a debut he did extremely well, fair play to him, he defended well, helped Bunn out at 2-0 and got forward when he could. Not in the same league as the Kyle's but to say he barely knows his teammates I thought in the circumstances he was excellent.

He'll have a mare on Saturday mind.

Quite amusing when taking a throw in, he had to whistle Quinny as he obviously didn't know his name!

Yeah he did well looks like a solid right back.

I thought he was excellent. Very assured defensively and didn't shirk anything. I wouldn't complain if it was possible to extend his loan. Good player.

Agree with all of the above - sound debut from the bloke.

Obviously not in the same league as the Kyle's going forward (but then i don't think he's that sort of full back), but solid defensively, covered well (as did Yeates for doubling up on the right side defensive duties i might add), and strong in the tackle. Definitely looked more reliable than Nos did there Saturday, and tbf to him too, although he still looks like the double of Claude Davis in his play, i thought he (Nos) was a little better last night - can't help thinking we're forever going to have our hearts in our mouths when he's in the back 4 though - fantastic block/tackle one minute, then immediately spins and turns the ball into the onrushing attacker or plays a terrible side-footed pass straight to the opposition.

Good welcome and ovasion for the new lad too which can only have helped.

Well done Connolly - hope that typifies what is yet to come from him!

UTB!

Hi all,

Interesting to see that Connolly seems to have had a half decent debut for you - no doubt he didn't try to cross the half way line then, or have plenty of time on the ball to show that he is basically clueless going forward.

Jewell brought him in from Plymouth on £10k a week and made him captain. Nice man, Jewell, but had clearly shot his bolt as a manager before he came to Derby, and nothing typified it more than this one rank awful decision.

£10k a week. For at BEST, a very average championship player, who is more than content to sit in the reserves and take his money.

Ironically, he is better as a centre back, a position where he is not as exposed going forward, and has done a mildly competent job there on occasions for us.

I should be saying 'Yeah, he's top class, you haven't seen the best of him yet, AND I'm sure you could get him on a free as Clough still has to trim his squad.'

...But then I'd be lying, and that wouldn't be a polite start for a visitor in your forum, would it?

ps - If you have to play Scunny, QPR,Plymouth or Peterborough (or of course Wednesday!) then please be kind enough to beat them for us. Thanks!!

Cheers Ram.

I wouldn't worry about Scunny et al, I think you're safe as houses. It's between Wednesday, Palace, Watford and Scunny I think. Everytime I look at your results you seem to have done well but still find yourselves down there!

One of my Wednesday supporting friends said Tonge was a class above against them a few days ago, is that the case? I see he scored a few screamers for you.

Saw him at Donny, looks solid but is it me or is he slow?

He runs like a thunderbird

Good player

And he sounds well when interviewed. I’m surprised how quickly he has let his voice be heard publicly. Definitely a leader, not surprised he was captain at Derby.

Santos,

Tonge is a marked improvement on anyone we've had masquerading as an alledged central midfielder for at least two or three seasons - the best since David Jones and Matt Oakley in the promotion season.

He's bright, good in possession, and vitally (and quite a rarity in this division) hardly EVER gives the ball away.

Shame we can't afford to buy him. Do you think Stoke would take Connolly and a fun size bag of Malteesers as a straight swap? That's our transfer budget this season.

Bloody Wednesday won tonight, we are looking perilously close to the drop now, especially with Palarse, Watford and Scunny having games in hand.

I've forgotten how to get to Colchester....
