Wolves are in talks to sign Sheffield United midfielder Kevin McDonald, Sky Sports understands.
Wolves chief Kenny Jackett is keen to bolster his squad and has made midfield reinforcements one of his top priorities.

Jackett is believed to be a big admirer of McDonald and has been tracking the 24-year-old for some time after trying to sign him when he was in charge of Millwall.
McDonald has established himself as a key part of the Sheffield United squad since arriving on a free transfer of the summer of 2011.

The former Scotland international was rewarded for his impressive performances for the Blades with a new deal last summer.

United are reluctant to lose the former Burnley man, but Wolves are understood to have agreed an undisclosed fee with their League One rivals and given the Scot permission to hold talks and undergo a medical at Molineux.

Now that would be ridiculous and can't see why McDonald would move unless they are paying more. He is very pivotal to the way we play unless Weir thinks Coady can do the job and tackle too

Of course Wolves will be willing to pay more, but isn't this going to be McDonald's last season on his contract? I can definitely see this happening :(

This would be the Blackman sale x about 20.

An utterly ridiculous decision if it goes through...

Tweet from Paul Walker saying he's going to ask DW about it this morning. Here's hoping it's bollox!

Unfortunately the sky sports site tends to get things right, undisclosed fee talks and medical. Sounds a done deal already. Puts a big spanner in our new system for Brentford tomorrow.

It would certainly reset all the relative positivity that's been around since Weir's appointment. He's probably the most important player we have in terms of a lack of replacement. How long did it take us to find a decent central midfielder between the Brown/McCall era and McDonald, 8 years?

Most creative player... check
Worst possible time... check
Undisclosed fee... check
The single transfer that would conclusively end promotion chances in a stroke... check

Seems about right to me.

I'd love to see the clappers line up and defend this one.... ;)

This latest excellent-bit-of-business-by-the-club-well-done-Mr-McCabe means we won't have to sell anyone in January??

We won't have to but where's the fun in that. We will sell Brandy at 23.59 on the 31st January

I'll wait till Weir's commented before grabbing the noose. It would make zero sense, and couldn't in any way be justified by the 'can't turn down that sort of deal' argument. They are key promotion rivals, and he is a key part of the squad. Blackman's was at least justified on the basis that we were selling to the Premier League, and that he on paper was fairly replacable - you never got the feeling he was a key part to how Wilson set up the team, more that Wilson tried to find somewhere to fit him in. Quite the contrast with K-Mac.

Most creative player- on his day yes. Most of the time no. How many times in the last year has he performed well ?
Worst possible time - Yes
Undisclosed fee- Why would this be a criticism ? Most clubs do this now. Irrelevant to whether he is sold or not.
End promotion chances ? Nope- cant see that. An ideal fit for Coady to play in this position ? Money available for a striker ?

Weir has said from the outset that someone may have to be sold. If this happens,it is not as if he hasn't been aware from the start

Agree to a certain extent. However,if KMac has made it clear he wants to leave to a club who will no doubt significantly increase his salary, do we really want to keep a player who was inconsistent last year(and that's being generous) who doesn't want to play for us ?

Personally I wouldn't sell to a promotion rival no matter what but if Weir has been promised money for a striker(even if on loan for the season) who it be worth it ?

Would be crazy to let him go - we want automatic right?!!?

The only way this would make sense is if they are offering £4-5 million, I think he is that vital to us. I know they have the parachute payments and stuff but still can't see them making an offer that is worthwhile to us.

Why sell your pivotal creative midfielder to a big rival with only a couple of weeks to replace him? Not as though we have anyone that could fill in to the same standard.

I would be gutted if we sold him not just beacuse he is important to our systme but he is th eplayer I most like to watch.

Even last year when he had many supposed "off games", it was still clear in each and every one of those matches that he was quite easily our best player who can do things that nobody else on our team would even think of, let alone be able to execute. I've said it before and I'll say it again. He was the only one of our players (I use the past tense because I haven't seen enough of Brandy yet to say whether he is too) worth paying the entrance fee to watch because he actually has ability. Not the ability to do a job, but actual technical ability.

I would rather we sell Long and Maguire.

Fear not, the "defend the indefensible brigade" are happy enough his replacement is already at the club. The 20 year old loanee who has no real experience of first team football and goes back to his parent club in six months time. What could go wrong?

Felt incredibly positive after Notts c performance. Then we lost at home to Burton and now this bollocks. Immediately back to being pissed off.

He's not nearly as good as many make out, but he is the only player we have who can do what he does.

It's not like selling our only scorer in January, but it's a bad one. Hopefully we will have a few weeks to sort it. Coady doesn't look like a replacement to me.
