I'm sure there will be many more over the coming days.

Daily Mail said:
Martin O'Neill is ready to exploit Sheffield United's failure to return to the Premiership by making a multi-million pound bid for Kyle Naughton.

The 20-year-old full back has already been vetted by most clubs in the top flight, but Aston Villa boss O'Neill has shown the most consistent interest after watching him on several occasions.

With United facing cutbacks after losing the Championship play-off final to Burnley, the Bramall Lane board are bracing themselves for offers for several players and Naughton is the most in-demand.

After completing his first full season, he is already rated in the £5m bracket. O'Neill sees him as the perfect addition to advance Villa's profile as a young, energetic outfit.

Naughton, who can play on either flank and is dangerous on the overlap, was among United's few stars at Wembley where he displayed the sort of pace that Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor have brought to O'Neill's developing team.

what cuts do we need to make? - thought BT sale had sorted most of that out - And I can't see that Naughton's wage would be that significant. If he goes (and I think it would be too soon for him to go) it won't be about the money.

So we will sell him for £2-3 million, as always undersell over buy!!

What's the point of talking about the money? What would you rather have, £5m that will either disappear into 'running costs' or be wasted on shit, or a good, promising player who bleeds red and white? No amount of money would replace either of the Kyles.

100%. They are our future, not £2m, £5m or £10m.

Thats the one. Whats the point in having an academy if we sell the best prospects? The whole point of the academy is so we dont need to go out & buy players. But with Macabe its all about balance sheets.

The problem is not one of balancing the books or even of selling prospects. Fact of the matter is that if another employer comes knocking on your door with a better position (PL maybe CL or EL as well), a ten-fold pay increase and an improvement in the possibility of international recognition, few will turn it down. Had we not gone tits up yesterday he would've definitely stayed, now I think the attractive offers will be too much for him to resist.

i dont think selling our best players is going to help our chances for getting us up next season.. the money we got from BT sale and 5mill per year from this tevez case should be albe to sort our over heads out. Hope we dont do the useal and try to do things on the cheap. weve been let down to many times. Time to get the correct players in, that will play the ball on the ground and attack teams instead of this hoof ball..

If i was in Kyle's position, no matter how much money or playing in the CL or PL would pull me away from the blades. If i was ronaldo and the blades were in league 2, is still play for them

When have we ever done anything over than this?

I thought the purchase of Beats miht have changed this but now I think it was just another way to fool the fans into thinking he wasn't just happy to be a half decent Championship side.

Yeah, i'm sure shelling out £4million for him and allowing him the contract he was on, was all just an elaborate plan to trick us all ;)

TBH i would have BT over any of our strikers. But not getting to the prem, we couldn't afford his wages next season, so any teams wanting him would be picking him off even cheaper as we need to get rid. It wasnt handled right by McCabe saying that we had a replacement lined up so if he did go we would be o.k. We got ward. As good as he is, he's no ex england international who can pull us out of the mire.

Selling BT now, should mean that we dont have to sell any kyle as we are suppose to be "stable"

Lets see how much ambition McCabe has and if he's just a penny pincher.

All very true, but if he's under contract then we can hold out for whatever we want. The question then becomes "Will he throw a strop if he can't go, but wants to?"

The crux of the issue, and despite the protestation from Keenzy, if you're suddenly offered £30,000+ per week and a chance of doing your stuff at the highest possible level, it can be difficult to just let that pass by. He could get an injury in pre-season training and that is the end of him, ALL players understand this and make decisions accordingly. Blade or not his first loyalty will be and should be to himself.

thing is Naughton is on nothing wages and if we can hold onto him for a while longer well either go up or sell him for more

its players like hendrie on 20k a week that need to go

Agree with that, but what I'm trying to say is that the Naughton decision may well be taken out of the clubs hands. If Villa or Chelsea offer £6m and the club say 'no thanks' the player might then decide, 'hang on, I want to do that'. Club then left with a player not wanting to be at the club.

We've apparently turned down an initial bid from Villa.

I think we won't get more than £3 million if we sell Naughton.....

Not sure it would even be that much. Pre recession perhaps, but we've already heard noises from the Lane about football not being immune to the wider economy - think their threshold would be lower. For me the crunch isn't in the cash up front - it's about performance related payments and sell on clauses - - we'd want to cash in as much as possible with these.

Anyway - still say the best thing for Naughts' career would be at least another season with us. Too soon to move on.

The mirror reckons sr'alex is in the frame...

Sir Alex Ferguson has joined the chase for Sheffield United's £7million-rated whizz-kid Kyle Naughton.

Manchester United manager Fergie had brilliant young rightback Naughton watched in the Blades' 1-0 Championship PlayOff Final defeat by Burnley at Wembley 13 days ago.

And the 20-year-old Sheffieldborn starlet did not disappoint.

A source revealed: "Sir Alex has kept tabs on Naughton, but was keen to see how he'd handle the big stage at Wembley.

"The reports he got were very positive. Kyle wasn't fazed and relished the occasion. He came out of the final as United's outstanding performer." BLADES boss Kevin Blackwell is waiting to see if his £1m bid for 22-year-old Southampton midfielder Andrew Surman has been accepted.

..Or he oculd become a champinos league winner & the best left back in the world..

Yeah, to be fair, MUFC need a right back more than a left back and nobody battered an eyelid when Kyle was tipped for England. Why shouldn't he be a hit? :)
