Exactly, beggars cant be choosy. I like the sound of him to be honest - big, strong, quick and has a good attitude by all accounts.
Some of the reactions to more realistic targets on here tend to suggest to me that we'll have a lot of disappointed Blades by the end of pre-season.
What I'd like to know is how he managed to play for Haiti despite being born in French Guiana.
And also, despite Haiti being 96th in the FIFA World rankings, he has only managed to play once fot them.

Not sure about the first bit but the second is not at all surprising. You have to remember where Haiti is geographically. Its not uncommon for European based players from far away continents to play very few games for their country.
Paul Ifill being an example. He qualified to play for Barbados but only turned out for them 10 times. Remember that JFL is only 24 as well!

True. A number of British born players of Carribean descent qualify to play for the country of their heritage and lots of them can't be arsed to do it at all or very often. Jonathan Forte also played for Barbados and Mikele Leighterwood has played fro Antigua.

Them wer't days! I remember walking into the changing room and with my Dad and Sandy was on an exercise bike doing a light warm up. He said to us "I've been pedalling for ages and I haven't moved yet!"
I also recall being offered a jelly baby in the tunnel by Dane Whitehouse just before the players emerged from the changing rooms. Being star struck it took me about 30 seconds to actually choose one!

Mathew Upson played for a team that was relegated and conceded 70 goals last season. Something tells me he will not have a problem getting a premier league contract next season.
Surely you question him oether contributing towards Swindon's fate or for not being good enough to get in the team, not both. The guy is young and apparently quick and athletic. Wilson must have seen something in him and maybe thinks that he could learn something off Morgs and become a real asset.

The question was that whoever Swindons defence was, they performed really poorly, conceding a whopping 72 goals and yet despite that Wilson didn't seem to play him much, so I'm questioning how good he is not being able to get in the side. If the defence was that poor, shouldn't he have been given his chance?
You might be right about Morgs. But I won't bank on it!

I think a lot of assumptions are being made here. Not by you Blade58, you're obviously just asking valid and relevant questions but the quality of this player is being scrutinised by the assumption that he is partly to blame for Swindon's poor defensive record.....because he is a defender. Whilst I dont claim to know exactly why Swindon had such a poor goals against record, I do know that its not as simple as just blaming defenders.
There are lots of variables to consider when a side is shipping goals. Sometimes it isnt just a case of the defence playing poorly. If the attack aren't holding the ball up well/threatening the opposition goal enough, the ball will inevitably keep coming back and more questions will be asked of the back four. When the game descends into a one way attack and defence scenario, the defending side will eventually concede a bundle no matter how well they play at the back.....law of averages. The point is you have to defend well as a team. You cant blame the defenders (and GK) all of the time.....Its 11 v 11 not 11 v 5!
There seem to be some suggestions that he cant be very good because he couldnt get into a side with a leaky defence. I suppose that's debatable until we see him in a Blades shirt. But if JFL didn't play in the majority of games, could one assume that he is not to blame for their poor defensive record as he wasn't in the side a lot of the time? There are a number of possible reasons why he might not have been selected so I'm assuming nothing.
The lad deserves to be given a chance. Swindon's record says a lot about their team as a whole. It says nothing about individuals.

Had a little dig around on the net. Seems he came through the youth system at PSG. He was also linked with a move to Swansea this January (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/swindon_town/9378023.stm) so the guy cannot be a slouch. Here is a very interesting article from last week about whether Swindon should offer him a new deal (http://thewashbag.com/2011/06/10/lescinel-jean-francois-does-he-deserve-a-new-deal/). They had as much chance of winning with him in the team as losing, which is not bad for a relegation team. He compares pretty favourably over all with the other Swindon defenders. Whilst this hardly says that he is Franco Baresi, it suggests that some of criticism levelled at him may be a little unfair.
I must admit that this is not the worlds most inspiring signing. It seems that their fans are dividing on him and he is prone to the odd error. Him not being able to cement a place in a poor side does raise questions, but there could be reasons (injuries, personal reasons - he lost his sister in Haiti quake, etc). However, he is pretty young and presumably has potential.
We'll just have to see.
