Stays with Mansfield until midnight Sunday 5th January and could start on Saturday.

Darryl Westlake has been allowed to join League Two outfit Mansfield Town on-loan until 5th January 2014.

The right-back has made 27 appearances for United, including seven starts this season, since joining from Walsall in the summer of 2012.

United have a 24-hour recall option on Westlake after the first 28 days of his loan, whilst the defender has been given permission to play for the Stags in the FA Cup.

The 22-year-old could make his Town debut against Morecambe at the One Call Stadium on Saturday.

He is the second Blades full-back to be loaned out on Thursday following Scunthorpe’s capture of Marcus Williams.

There have been games he's played where I thought he was a good prospect but others where he looked lost. Agreed it is a good move if he gets games, don't think the swapping and changing has helped him much here. Don't know whether he's got any future with Blades though unless he does something special at Mansfield.

He's a strange player, poor defensively in the final third, ok in the middle third, poor delivery in the final third.

I suppose Wilson thought he may develop but he didn't.

We need to try and ensure he doesn't return.

its a start . Nigel has to let players going down gently in case they are needed remember, he cant say to them sorry lad you dont impress we are getting shut , to any until he has a door to push them through

hopefully theyll be a revolving door fitted in january

And if my football skills were any good and I was about 40 years younger I'd fancy my chance to replace the whole first team squad..... and subs bench

Its a start. I would tell to go there and try and fix up a move as Sheffield United are way above his limitations.

He fitted the profile of younger players with potential but didnt come upto scratch in reality.

Shame.

Hope he does well there & earns a perm move.

Good move for him if he gets a regular start. Strange player because he has the skills

Agree. Also it was one of those speculative moves for a player who had potential but never really moved to the level required. Good to see Clough doing things the right way and moving players on.
