Although Nigel Clough is actively working on recruiting at least one player before the weekend, the Blades boss has sanctioned a loan switch for midfielder Florent Cuvelier.

The 21-year-old will spend the rest of the season with League One rivals Port Vale.

Cuvelier, who didn't figure at Notts County last weekend, has featured just twice from the bench under Nigel Clough, both outings coming in 3-1 home victories over Crewe Alexandra and Tranmere Rovers respectively.

In total, Cuvelier, signed from Stoke City in the last transfer window, has made eight appearances for the Blades.

The Belgian could make his Vale debut against Oldham Athletic a Vale Park on Saturday.

Couldn't see a thread on this elsewhere so though i'd stick one up. Looking like a bench full of kids on Saturday then.

If he has gone & we dont sign a replacement then this could end up being a stupid decision.
Id rather have cuvelier than a kid who isnt ready on the bench.

I didn't see much of him last year so didn't really know what to expect of him when we signed him, all I heard was a few people on this forum going on about how good he was... Hasn't impressed me at all in the few times he's played for us, an I can't see him improving at vale either all he'll get is a stiff neck watching all the long balls going over him!!

He was not playing Brandy or Cuvelier so it makes no real difference if they stayed or went out on loan to the match day squad.
However, if there are no replacements incoming (and we know that loans can be signed outside the JTW so don't expect that to be a deadline that affects us completely) then we are making room for no reason at all as the savings on wages will be nothing compared to the drop in revenue that comes with yet another relegation.

I suspect you will see us soldier on to the end of the JTW and not sign anyone (bar that lad from Livingstone if Posh don't get him first). There will be much venting of spleens on forums and twitter and on P&G then we will get in a couple of no name loans to help us scrape out of the shit mess we are currently in. It's the Blades Way and we all know it is.

That's because he was played on the left or in a defensive midfield role.....neither being his best/natural position.

He needs to be playing where Baxter plays unfortunately. Same with Brandy. Shows how daft it was of Weir to sign all three of them.

good bit of squad trimming, we cant all moan we arent good enough then start extoling the few virtues any player may / may not have, decisions been made, no humming and harring, ups the urgency to recruit

Didn't Kevin McCabe once say we wont relying on loans anymore when we was relegated from Championship! Now we are sending future first team players to our league rivals and replacing them with loan players. We will bring somebody in who is probably unfit and not up for the relegation battle we find ourselves in.

Unfortunately Cuvelier suffered a serious knee injury for Port Fail and was stretchered off. Could be on his way back to our treatment room.

Hearing he may have done his cruciate. If so that's it till next Xmas. Hope it is not as bad.

From a selfish point of view, does his return mean we cannot free-up the space for a loanee of our own?

He has tweeted that he's injured his knee but hopefully not too serious and he'll be back soon.

Obviously he won't know until it is scanned but that sounds a bit mire optimistic

brilliant isnt it.

we loan out one of the more talented players within our squad & he suffers a bad injury.
