My memory might be playing tricks, but didn't he have a bad injury around 84 or 85? I seem to recall he was never the same player again and wouldn't take men on like he had done in the past.

Is it just me?

Hull needed to win by 3 clear goals to pip us to promotion.
I was working 2-10 at Fletcher's bakery and listening to radio Sheffield on a portable transistor radio!
I think it was a re-arranged last game of the season and everyone else had finished.
All I remember at 0-2 was the presenter saying something like, "Not long to go now, if the red light does on, I'll know someone has scored and you'll know straight away" Felt like the longest few minutes of my life!
You should have been there , marwood pig scored 2 for them in the first half and they had wave after wave of attack but a keeper called Roger Hansbury had a blinder and we signed him a couple of years later. We had a great time in Todmorden taunting Hull fans on their way home :)

It was a strange, but enjoyable evening. Me and a few mates went straight from work (Laycocks on Archer road) and found ourselves feytin' with the Burnley fans as we took our place on their kop end. It was really tense for the first few minutes until they realised that; a) We were cheering their team on, and b) there was quite a lot of us on there :p.
When it was 2-0 the home fans were really quiet, and it was us Blades that were urging them to keep going. We had a great trip home via the off licence and chip shop :)

You didn't go with me did you :) 2 of the lads I went with lived at millhouses and their best mate worked at Laycocks but he was/is a pig. I don't think I've been to a game since with any of them but still see them at the lane from time to time.

Don't think so, Sitters. I was living at Meersbrook at the time. 1 of the lads lived above a chinese chippy on the Wybourn and another was from Halfway. No doubt our paths will have crossed at sometime mate

Think they went 2 nil up early in the second half Sitters. One of the longest last 30 minutes of my life and we weren’t even playing!!

By the time we got in we were 1 down

Ended up sat in the Bob Lord Stand ..........

What a night that was. 7,000 or 8,000 Blades made the trip, and there was no ticket allocation back then. Still have fond memories of that game.

Also there one of my best nights folllowing the Blades made all the sweeter I think by their manager had been saying beforehand how they’d turn us over

My main memories of Colin:

His great goal against Wimbledon in May 1984 when he bent it into the top corner to leave Beasant standing. Was only a consolation but so important
His goal against Bristol City, as mentioned above. Pleased that's on film
His winning goal 4 minutes from time in a must win game against Plymouth earlier in 1988 when he bundled in from close range after Bassett restored him to the side. He looked so happy!
His missed penalty late in our 5-0 win against Bolton on New Years' Eve 1983 when he already had a hattrick - the keeper smothered it. The next United player to actually manage 4 in a game? Leon Clarke
Too many missed pens ( including Bolton 84, Huddersfield 85 (Brian Cox saved), Millwall 1986 (hit the post during that awful home defeat), Leicester 1988 (Paul Cooper saved)).
The sheer delight of watching Colin deliver a cross and King Keith get on the end of it.
My sadness as he got subbed against Hull in 1985-6 to make way for new signing Steve Wigley - there was a sense that that was it for him. It wasn't. He outlasted Wigley by over a season.
Seeing him at Junior Blades under 8s with young Lee.

Astonished the last minute goal v Wigan in the Div4 season doesn't feature.
They were one of the challengers, Larry Lloyd played like a man mountain (even mooned at the Kop) and it was going to end at a frustrating 0-0, until Colin unlocked them down the right in the last minute and set Sir Keith up for the winner. Bedlam.
Also setting up the header for SK at Elland Road with a great piece of skill and a pin point cross.

I was not at the Wigan game. Too young for night games then...

Think he was called Peter Morris and had spouted off to the local rag beforehand that we'd have that much defending to do we wouldn't even get in their half...... I think we were three up at half time.
I remember Dad getting home late from work as usual and it was well past half five when we set off from Matlock, we made it just in time for kick off. My cousin just about recovered from the journey there by then as he wasn't as used to Dad driving like a lunatic as we were.

That goal has been mentioned many times over the years. I can still see it in my mind from the Kop. Waugh rolls it out to Matthews who gives it to Colin on the right wing. He skips down to the byline right on the whitewash and puts a low one over for King Keith to knock in. I could have it all to cock though!

You’re just a fat bastard, Larry Lloyd, Larry Lloyd.

The sad thing about getting older is that you don’t really have sporting heroes any more.

The exceptions being Colin Morris and Brian Deane. The mere mention of either and I’m back to being 11 and 15, the old John Street stand and £1.20 to get on the Kop as a Junior Blade.

I remember that. My first night match.

Distinctly remember my dad claiming that Edwards had "played like a pudding" all night and then got the winner in the last minute....

It was the biggest game of that season so far. My (fucked) memory tells me the winner was at the bramall lane end, where the "dads and lads" (bit sexist) section was and I was sat.....ie family stand?

Colin Morris?

Fucking legend.
