C Basham outstanding success
M Mcnulty successfull a lot more to come
M Done very successfull
B Davies now showing his age released
A Butler failure we will never know what really happened there
H Mcgahey development player hopefully one for the future
P Coutts jury out but has got real quality clough rates him
J Mceveley not good enough in my opinion
J Campbell- ryce good impact player in my opinion
M Higdon very poor unfit( cant run) panic buy in my opinion
C Adams develoment player he could have a great future with his power play could be our
surprise package next season has the ability to be a goalscorer matchwinner..
Lone signing..
P Mccarthy cloughs biggest mistake very poor
C O:grady successfull even though we didnt have him for long
S Davies jury out but looked as if he could do a job for us
J Holt scored some vital goals but thats it offers nothing else we have enough lightweight
players no more please.
clough has signed 18 players 5 of which are development players with 4 loan signings
along the way = 22 where the 25 comes from(according to some posters) i dont know.
I would say that most have been successfull to some degree with more to come, all managers
make mistakes along the way re-transfers but in my opinion cloughs record there is good.
For me his big mistake was failing to recruit the game changers and when he did he has been hit
with injuries= M Done,S Davies and J Brayford at the business end of the season.
If he can get the 3or 4 quality players he talks about we should have a real chance of automatic.

7 needed all quality please 3 at centre half 2 holding midfielders and 2 (what I would call) traditional centre forwards
Other than clear out some more of the average dross I think the squad looks good (maybe a keeper but I think ours have been unfairly exposed at times this season due to the lack of quality c/halves in front of them )
:D

Agree with almost everything. Thought S Davies did a good job up front and brought in the other attacking players with his link up play.

To be honest I would rather have him than OGrady, simply because he wants to play for us whereas OGrady has been wishy washy tosay the least.

The Beard, Coutts, Davies all chose to drop a division as they see the potential in the club. I feel Chris sees us as a good back-up plan...not really what we want.

And Scougall?

Arrived Jan 2014 so under Clough I believe

Not arguing over how many, but 22, 23, 24 or 25. He's brought in two full teams

All about opinions on how well they've done and conjecture on how well they might do, but the fact has always been they weren't good enough to win promotion so now we wait for Clough to bring in another hat full, perhaps starting with resolving such a fundamental issue of the club employing some centre backs

??????? i may be getting on in years now submarine but i have run the sheffield marathon in under 3 hours
whats your best time ???????????

all players are punts
at any level, some are good some not so good

if you look at what brendan rodgers has spent at Liverpool just as an example
http://www.lfchistory.net/Transfers/ByManager/25-1

of his buys , theres sturridge whos been injured but is a good buy
lallana not really been a game changer
Lovren to me has been 19 million too much

theres no gaurentee if you pay 20 million for a player, that youve bought well
so we have to accept us buying at Lidl and Aldi compared to those shopping at Harrods, theres the same success/ failure rate

As you've identified blade too long, the higher you go, the greater the likelihood of attempting to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Roger's purchases (so far amounting to over £211 million) reveals how ridiculously inflated some players reputations are. Balotelli at £16 mil is a comic side show, no more than an accident waiting to happen. Whereas the genuine talent that is Coutinho seems a snip. Certainly not a squad I'd mark as serious champions, and although most things are relative in relationship to ambition, the depth of pocket attached to the club's owner, how sensible and realistic a club is in relation to where it views it's goals etc, your point about taking a punt seems about as on the money as any other opinion. I must add, signing Joe Allen for £15 million must have made Swansea's bank manager a very happy man.

Although I appreciate that the higher you go the greater the risk financially, it frightens me knowing what lies ahead. Of course the rewards attached for attaining promotion are excessive, and you do need to speculate to achieve anything in life (see Brayford as an example), but I just hope the resolve remains inside the club to move forward with fierce determination. Those clubs of similar size, potential etc (please don't knock me if I'm a little off on some of these suggestions): WBA, Stoke, Crystal Palace, Southampton, are hardened, tried and tested competitors who we can draw inspiration from when it comes to achieving more than simply waiting to be lifted out of this energy sapping division.

Great effort. Only some proper spelling and a bit of punctuation from being really offensive.

Seems Mr B Davies has taken this list personally

Don't think so (apologies if I am).

I think our sub mariner friend was replying to the original post but couldn't get the quote function working properly (along with a lot of other things).

Could be Grecian, just the way it reads it seems you've somehow put sub's name to Finlay's comments.....if it's me getting tangled accept a double apology.

With the obscene money available in the premiership , and becoming more and more every year . If you know you are not going to be in a relegation battle , you can easily afford to piss some of it , up the wall.

Clubs spending a million is like us spending a thousand . Its all relative , and proves we have to get out of league 1 , just perhaps to now compete with them in S6 , never mind any club in a higher league.

Clough does have a habit of getting obsessed with players, E.g, Davies and O'Grady ignoring all other options to go for them. Only when he finally succeeds they turn out to be very average.

It's really odd isn't isn't it? I can understand the obsession with say Brayford, but Davies or Coutts?

And it must cost us a load more than it should when the club and the players agent know he's after them...
Hope he gets obsessed about a good goalkeeper and two C/Halves.....

Do we really need Dom Perignon to get out of League one?
Basham and Adams aside who else would you put in Nigel Clough Lidl/Aldi shopping basket?
