Clough's Signings

He also brought in Butler and McCarthey.................

And this from the worst rumour monger this site has had......pay no attention, all managers sign players that don't measure up, even the likes of Alex Ferguson took chances on players that failed to deliver, so it's a futile exercise in attempting to undermine Clough. Sure, he's made mistakes.....but the adage about pot and kettle come to mind, so why waste your time on something so pointless? Your own track record in advising this forum about incoming signings is a lesson for any aspiring poster to avoid making claims that never materialise.

I think it has been right for the signings to be questioned , as a number of performances have been poor . The scouting system headed by Mr Clough brother , and the ongoing moan about the board , with no real investment , escalates when results are poor or play not being to our expectations.

I believe the second part of the business end of the season , the players and system are finally clicking. When it comes to certain players not cutting the mustard , even Man City , Chelsea , Real Madrid , like ALL clubs have the same problem.

However Mr Clough has had no room for manoeuvre , if making a number of bad buys , and what made it worst , is with players bought by Bristol City , Swindon etc hitting the ground running . This can change when star loan players are called back by there parent clubs , as in the case of MK Dons.

The players in the squad are now in unison together , and even Higdon will come good , with us or someone else.

Overall good , but still room for improvement to bring success , like 92 league clubs want , but all with different levels of expectations.

A select few on this forum keep slagging Clough's signings and scouting network. Just pointing out he got McNulty and JCR in the squad. Please have some faith this january.

Hey Clough never signed Veron did he :)

Put extremely succinctly I must say, without the need to refer to the poster with expletives - exactly what the forum should stand for.

Suffer? I've taken the franchise Fulwood and hope to expand.....seriously, I have periodic bout of insomnia, nothing I can do about it other than engage the mind. I've found that works...eventually. I'm certainly no stranger to expletives, but on this occasion it wasn't necessary.

I'm afraid the select few, who share a single braincell, have, for reasons impossible for sane people to understand, an agenda against a manager who is doing a damn good job for our club.

As Dylan suggested "I wouldn't pay them any mind..."

There's signing someone who doesn't "measure" up then there's signing a lad and not giving him a chance.....

In my book not measuring up covers a multitude of possibilities, whether it's not being able to perform as hoped, being a destructive influence amongst the squad, being at odds with the manager, and whatever else might negatively impact on the team according to the manager. Clough knows what he's looking for, and if a player brought in doesn't seem a good fit then it's best that they are moved on.

Clough makes a huge amount of noise about signing players of the right character. We don't see that side of things, but I'm guessing that when players like Butler get moved on, then their character has been questioned as much as their playing ability.

Clough strikes me as a very fair manager but with very strict principles and rules. I guess it's also not everyone's cup of tea...

Linz / Foxy, please can we have a double "like" button for anyone quoting Uncle Bob ?

Good:- Brayford, Scougall, Harris, Davies, McNulty, McCevely, Basham, JCR

Indifferent:- Alcock, Turner, Freeman, White, McCarthy

Too early to say:- McGahey, J.Wallace, Higdon, O' Grady, Adams, K.Wallace

Poor:- Butler, Paynter

Here's my personal assessment of Clough's signings so far. A lot more hits than misses as far as I'm concerned.
I can't really understand all the flak that's been aimed at Clough and"Clough's Brother" for the alleged poor scouting.
("Clough's Brother is called Simon by the way. Only polite to use somebody's proper name when calling for them to be sacked).

In addition, he's got much improved performances out of Flynn, Coady, Baxter, Howard and Murphy than his predecessors did and more than balanced the books in terms of transfer fees in and out.
I like the look of most of the players we've been linked with in this transfer window too.
Time now for the board to look at his overall transfer record so far and back his judgement financially.
