Not a rumour but thought this was the best place to put this..

Schteeeve McLaren is linked with the Newcastle job so does anybody think Derby want Clough back to finish what he started?

Stranger things have happened.

To be fair, Derby turned from mediocre to good literally the second they got rid of him. Why would they go back for more?

Chinese whisper rumour, that should Pearce get the push at Forest, they're in for Clough

Other than sentiment, I can't see why

Hmmm tough one. When Clough managed Derby they were crap. After Derby sacked Clough they were good.

Where Mr Clough goes his brother follows . I am sure that if any club came in for Mr Clough , SUFC would let him go . Stability , building a infrastructure is fine , as long as it brings success. In football it is short term that counts.

Forest made a mistake with Pearce due to maybe sentiment , who is to say they wont make another . Why is Morgan on the coaching staff . Yes , sentiment.

They had won 5 - 1 at Millwall the week before - they were far from crap. He just fell out big time with Sam Rush and therefore there is no way on earth he would go back. Lot's of Derby fans are resigned to losing McClaren, I think Paul Simpson will probably be given a chance if he does go.

Can see Clough going to Forest though.

TBH only if a Premier League club or Forest came in for him do I think he would jump ship.

I just can't see him going down that route again. He will be constantly compared to his father, can you imagine the Press? 'Clough Junior living in his dad's footsteps once again'. I believe he will want to finish the job he started here at Bramall Lane. He has a chance to create his own legacy and achieve great things with Sheffield United. If he his given time, I believe he will do just that.

agreed south stand cloughy deserves and needs the time to finish what he has started derby will regret sacking him as he was building a team there and they got impatient sacked him brought in mcclaren who will take toone job if offered it.cloughy builds
teams and would have seen it through at derby we now have to give him time at the lane we have some real potential coming through the ranks cloughy wont run out on us, like his dad he likes to see things through. Ime as frustrated as any blade with the way things are going at present in the league but it will come good as the quality we are bringing in to the team will get us up! if not this season definately next and lets get to wembley at the expense of spurs, very exciting january
coming up . pigs would love to be in our position (semi final) as they,re going to have dead season when city see them off on sunday ..exciting times blades ! lets get rid of the negativity and enjoy whats ahead in january for if this month goes pearshaped we are still on the up we are getting stronger. i will say it again" Rome was,nt built in a day something worth having is worth being patient just maybe a bit longer. mr clough will do it his way just give him time.

Do you think when Alan Sugar retires nige might take over at amstrad ?

I know a serious Derby County fan (serious enough to have won the auction for Craig Bryson's shirt that he wore when he scored a hat trick v Forest last season at £2,000) and his view is that the difference between Clough and McClaren is loan players.

I can't remember the examples he quoted (Ibe from Liverpool was one) but he reckons that PL clubs were much more willing to loan players to McClaren than to Clough because they had more confidence in his coaching and style of play

That does also tie in with people's views who say that Derby is largely Clough's team as that clearly exclude loan players.

Far from crap? I don't think so. Clough's record at Derby was W78 D54 L101. That's bottom 8 form i.e. crap.

Can you break that into figures by season? I'd be interested at them against the budget he had.

If it looks like our season is going the way of the pear and an offer comes in from Forest or a Championship side ( I would be gobsmacked if a Prem team wanted him) I reckon NC will take it. I am less and less convinced that we are seeing the birth of a Clough dynasty at BDTBL, more that we were a decent hotel to stay in after he was evicted.

Ok, I live and work in Derby with Derby season ticket holders but don't let facts get in the way of the ability to have a dig.

Those figures were over 4 and a half seasons three of which he had to significantly reduce the wage bill while improving league position each time.

So when clough arrived at derby they said heres a tenner shit squad get us back up from league 1 in 2 years and improve our 45m deficit .I dont remember mclaren getting that silver spoon start .some people are great at comparing stark figures

Didnt the derby fan say that clough had money but wouldnt spend it ?

McClaren scores over Mr Clough on the quality of loan players and better tactician. Mr Clough is good for SUFC , but he needs help on the coaching side and player recruitment. He just cannot rely on Garner , Morgan and Clough brother.

The truth hurts. The stats I quoted were accurate and speak for themselves.

Whilst I live in Sheffield I do know a couple of sheepshagger ST holders who both say they improved massively after Clough was sacked. They both are also very familiar with the ultra negative approach we have suffered whilst Clough has been with the Blades.

They don't though. That's why I added some context.

Derby have improved post Clough with his players, all agree on that but many think they would have done the same with Clough in charge as they were already showing signs that season.

However the worry is that the approx 30 percent of Derby fans who were against Clough did have the same grumbles as similar minded Blades.

Facts are Derby were far from crap under Clough and certainly for the first three years he did a wonderful job and built a fantastic squad of players as well as being brilliant with the youngsters. That is his major plus point for me.

At. Derby Clough signed players with the ability to do reasonably well in the Championship.
I get the feeling that the players he has collected for us may be better suited to a higher level of football. IMO that is backed up by their performance in cup competitions.

My concern is that the league that we are in requires a different mentality. Horses for courses. Bigger, stronger players who are not bullied. I do hope that Nige can get the mix right during the transfer window.

The players in the squad are individually not that bad . Agree with you Sirius , that adding stronger , bigger players , would help the balance of the side . This may help the existing players to play to there full potential.

Something has just not clicked in scoring goals , Higdon on paper appeared to be a good signing , when watching him play in Scotland and Holland , but it has just not worked out , perhaps due to not playing him to his full strengths .

I think we could buy 8 new players , and we still would have the same problem and issues . The best signing we could make , may be a new first team coach , with new ideas , to stop the players looking jaded and providing more tactical awareness.

No idea who were on the coaching staff at Derby , but it cannot have been just Clough and Garner.

Mr Clough brother has also to take some responsibility and step up his game in player recruitment.

It could be as simple that they know the championship like the back of there hand , but league 1 is a different ball game , of which the Clough brothers are new to , and perhaps the inexperience in this league is now showing , thats why our players may be better suited to a higher level of football.

One thing the Derby fans I know and hear (lots) all agreed on was that Cloughs backroom team (virtually the same as here with Morgan for Metgod) was not experienced or good enough.

McCkaren has brought in Paul Simpson who is a good coach with management experience and Eric Steele who was at Manchester United.

A new experienced first team coach would be excellent but asDerby fans thought Clough needed one for four years and it didn't happen I think it unlikely.

Good player in his day, Silent.

Always believed in getting balance right in a team . Coaching in the states . Does Mr Clough see certain coaches as a threat and is surrounded by yes men , with a autocratic style of management . Funny how Garner and Mr Clough brother came , and know one else .

Chances on the pitch yes , but do we need a change in coaching staff . May help.
