Don't think this has been posted. Chris Porter, Mark Howard, Bob Harris and Ben Davies offered contracts

Sounds like Davies and Porter have both been offered one-year deals - the rest have a year option but Clough is trying to add another one on that.

Offer made to Spurs youngster Kevin Stewart, likely to know next week.

McNulty deal 'coming along nicely'.

The much-awaited released list likely out on the 16th.

I thought Febian Brandy had already released most of the released list?

It's funny but I normally forget football a while at seasons end. So excited about next season already and I think a key player for us will be Ben Davies. Despite his age he's so fit and buzzing and will want to do well for us as much as himself.

Indeed. I doubt there will be many surprises on it, unless Porter & the club can't agree terms.

One thing Clough did say on the Davies offer was that we wanted him for one year 'but there might be other interest in him'.

Sounded also as though we're prepared to wait & see on Coady but we ideally want all our business done in the next few weeks. No mention on Brayford or Freeman. Wouldn't surprise me if Derby tried to re-sign Brayford - which in itself would move Freeman nearer the door.

Talking about this with my mates and they recon Brayford wouldn't get into the Derby first team ahead of the younger Andre Wisdom

Thought wisdom was only on loan derby blade and if so ,looking at that performance from glen johnson against palace they might have him starting next season at liverpool

He is but apparently they're signing him on a permanent deal in the summer

Can't help thinking that Clough is a top, top manager!

Proud to be a Blade!

BB

Given the proper support of the Board and a bit of time and love from the fans; he could actually be the "chosen one" !!
I'm looking forward to the next few weeks to see what actually happens .....

I'm disappointed we've offered Davies a deal. He is average at best. If we could just bring him on for set pieces and then take him off again, signing him would be worthwhile. As it is, he isn't fit enough to play 45 minutes, let alone 90, and he isn't quick or skilful enough to beat a man. This isn't the sort of wide player that fits into our quick, counter-attacking team.

We can do better than an ageing utility man who isn't the best in any position and will not be pushing for a first team place.

I think signing him would add a reliable, though different option in those areas - he isn't pacy, but he's a tidy enough player and strikes me also as the type that's helped off the pitch in terms of improving the general atmosphere in the squad, which I do think is important in maintaining. I don't think we're going to end up with pacy back-up players in all positions - and if we do, it'll likely come with a significant failure in other attributes they can offer. Davies takes a decent set-piece, isn't wasteful, and provides a different option for us. I would view him in a Gillespie-esque role in our Championship season - where he'd effectively come on for Ifill for the last 20 mins or so, despite being a bit sluggish in comparison.

In Nigel We Trust.

I think he is a decent option to have at this level, though i would agree he doesn't have much pace, he doesn't need to beat a man to put a decent ball in the box... He has that talent to deliver quality crosses and set pieces.

quality balls into the box for a quality striker easy peasy

Definitely needs to loose some timber... ;)

He's built like a brick shit house, I know, but he has poor stamina. He can be as strong as he likes, but it makes no odds when he's knackered after one sprint.

He can deliver a decent ball into the box, but without the pace or skill to go past a man it makes it difficult for him to get into a decent position to do so.

Maybe with a decent pre season under his belt he could prove us wrong with the fitness.. I don't think Nigel would have signed him if he didn't think he could do a job for us. I'm hoping that the days of craps signings are way behind us.
I'm also really impressed with the way he seems to be getting the players all signed up before they go off for their summer break..
Could this be the start of something good?

That's really harsh. He's a solid, versatile footballer that is handy from set pieces. A really good player to have in the squad to give us another option in certain areas.

I'll be really pleased if he signs permanently. We can do a lot worse.

I agree we could do worse, I just think we could do better. I'd imagine he's on a decent wage for a squad player.

Like others, though, I am happy that Clough is trying to get his targets snapped up early on.

I happen to agree with you Pat, I also think Clough recognises the experience Davies will bring to the squad, especially the younger guys. As this campaign moves forward we'll need this type of calming experience to make sure that nerves are settled. I can also see why Clough will have wanted Porter for one final campaign. These guys may not be regular first team players, but the help they'll bring to the younger contingent will be priceless as the games come thick and fast. If Davies can also chip in with the odd goal or two then I'll take that as a plus. Seems he's a first class professional, so for those who might have their heads swayed, the type of experience that Davies can share will prove invaluable. Good signing in my book.

I personally trust Clough in what he is trying to do. We saw the value towards the end of the season in having Ben Davies in and around the club. Can play in several positions, and is a neat and tidy enough footballer to be able to make a contribution to the club.

What will be interesting is what will happen to some of the Flotsam and Jetsam within the club, players like Brandy, Taylor and Westlake who are on deals but clearly not in Cloughs thinking.

I happen to think that we won't see Brayford back, and reckon he would be either Derby bound, or back in Cardiffs first team especially now they have been relegated from the Premiership, wouldn't mind seeing Freeman sign on a full deal as he did reasonably well in his loan spell at the Lane, and i think he has bags of potential and we could get a very player in future on the cheap.

I was speaking to someone about davies and they said he used to be a right fitness freak, but then had a few issues,he then said if he gets it back he will be quality for us
This is what i put a bit back and i'll stand by it.

In his short time here, Davies has already bagged three winning goals which is not bad at all for a midfielder. As a bonus, all of them were scored in front of the Kop.

Seems people were saying similar things about Ryan Flynn not so long ago and they have been proved wrong.

Ryan Flynn was in his early/mid-twenties so likely to improve. Davies is past 30 and only going to get worse.
