Another note to pinchy:- "We'll be relying very heavily on Chris Morgan. He'll be sticking around and working with us, we hope"

Wishing Cloughie the best of luck all the way from Spain. One of my neighbours is a Blades fans and chuffed to bits you have got him and can't believe he has been sacked from Derby. Cloughie did a great job at Burton and he took them from a non-league club to 20 points clear of the opposition before he took over at Derby in Jan 09 and then they were lucky to get promotion as their form went to dire. He is fully behind youth academy set up and did a grand job at Derby which we understand Sheff Utd have got so he will be chuffed with that. Majority of Rams fans are sad to see him go but his face didn't fit with the new Yank. We will always be behind him because of the name and we wish him well. Come on Cloughie!! Your score will always be the next one I look for after Derbys score

Cheers for the wishes but our Academy level is now downgraded to level 2 (think it is the same for Derby) and nowadays the PL clubs have more power over our Academy players meaning that it will be more difficult for us to have players who are as good as George Long, or in Derby's case, Will Hughes

It is still officially rated as 8th best in the country.

For the moment, yes. This is based on how many of the Academy players have gone to play in the 1st team. Wait till the next few years and I know that some Academy players who are 16 that are desperate to go to Academies whose 1st team are in the PL. There is now an increase of Championship/ L1 and L2 clubs who are borrowing Academy players from the PL rather than putting their own Academy players into the 1st team (for example Coady is in our 1st team squad rather than Whitehouse)

See below explaining the new EPPP. A few years ago we sold Jacob Mellis to Chelsea for £1M and now the maximum fee is much, much less. Also note the paragraph under "Controversy"

Mellis seems to be the perfect example of a Premier League team coming in for an academy player. He gets seduced by the bright lights and the big (or at least bigger) money, and scoots off. We trouser a fee, that are set to get smaller, and the player makes a grand total of one substitute appearance for his new club at first team level before being farmed out on loan then signing for a non-descript Championship team. Coady may well turn out the same.

Was it ever level 1 ?
I understand that the new head of Academy said United could have spent the money to upgrade but 'we would only be on an ego trip'.
That might suggest that being level 1 is within our grasp, if desired.

I've just watched the interview for the first time. The first question is, was he speaking to a really short man to his right and a really tall man to his left?

In all seriousness though, this is my first post commenting on the Clough appointment that I can recall. I made no secret of the fact that I was disappointed when Weir got the job and that I felt everybody was getting excited over with little reason. There is none of that for me this time. I am quite satisfied that Clough will have us playing football that is both good to watch and effective. He has plenty of managerial experience to draw on and seems a confident bloke.

He isn't burdened with the unfounded giddiness that Weir was and I am hoping that once again my gut instinct proves to be correct and Cloughie has us on the right track in no time.

Morgs, a manager equally as inexperienced as Weir showed that our players are capable of more than we had been seeing, now let's watch a proper manager get the best out of what is far from one of the worst squads in the division.

I am looking forward to changing from my sinking ship avatar.

Up the Blades.
