What a marvellous end of season run the players coaches and manager have given us over the last few months.

From the depths of despair to a valiant effort to get 6th spot and within a knats cock of a Wembley final. Bloody marvellous and my thanks go to all involved for restoring my faith in the club and the direction it is now headed. At time of writing, the future looks brighter than it has been for a long time. I know my sentiments are shared by many who are now genuinely proud to be fans of the club once again.

Now for the pearls .....

The management team and directors have got a heck of a job on to keep the nucleus of this squad together. There will be much interest in many of our players and the lure of the dollar and the bright lights may be too much for some. That is life and we should (reluctantly) wish any "star" players who depart the best of luck with their new adventures. That is football and that is how it is. Survival of the fittest. Bigger clubs with bigger purse strings will dictate and this is nowt new. Clough , I believe will be able to handle this and recruit to both replace and improve the squad wisely. There is very good evidence already in his short stint that this will be so.

Lastly, whether we want to accept it or not, us football club supporters are a fickle sort, and those of us from Sheffield are perhaps amongst the most fickle. Maybe this ain't the case.

What I do know is that there will be a section of the club support that will expect the play offs to be wrapped up by Valentines day and automatic by Easter, such is the renewed and greatly enhanced expectations surrounding the club. If only it was that simple !

So thanks for the memories, have a well earned few weeks in the sun and come back to work and carry on the great journey that has now started. I look forward to playing my minuscule part in it !

In further support for Cloughie, Rick Wakeman told me last night that he reckons Nige will do the business for us next season "but he might not get you any further than the Championship."

Rick, as a Brentford fan, also confessed to having a soft spot for Sheffield United owing to the red and white stripes and Jimmy Dunne. He said he was really rooting for us in the semi-final as "you've had it rough in the doldrums recently."

Bless him and his widdly Moog.

I know cloughy has done brilliantly for us this season but i dont think im wrong in expecting us to go all out for top two next season,we cant seriously as a set of supporters want to stay in this division any longer, doesnt mean i expect us to get automatic by easter but i do want automatic by the end of the season and i dont think i will be the only one in saying this

My Mum used to say "I want never gets"

So did mine but we never get what we want anyway so I don't think wanting it or not wanting it will make a difference!

I want us to be champions!! :)

Think that just about hits this particular topic on the head BoSS. It'll be what it will be, so no amount of wishful thinking will make it anything other than what the end of next season will deliver.

If there's a key, it's the board backing Clough. If (lots of ifs you'll find) they give Nigel the resources he needs to improve the squad then we stand a good chance of challenging for promotion, but there's no way to predict at the moment.

So here's what I want, to get out of this division, win the majority of our home matches, be rock solid in defence, and from somewhere find some bugger who can put the ball in the onion bag with awesome regularity.....oh yeah, do our best to sign Brayford too! UTB

My mother used to say that too, but she also said all sorts of nonsense. We needed a phrase book half the time.

When I think of the rubbish my mum came out wit it had three reactions:

A big smile remembering her and all she did for us kids

Amazement at the rubbish she used to come out with, most of it wrong, I'm not Blind but do need glasses!!

Relief that I'm not completely f-cked up.

Love you mum forever.

Regrettably, as much as I agree with you and empathise, there is a world of difference between what we expect and what we get, as supporters of SUFC.

Unless the Board fulfils its long unfilled obligation to support the Manager and to give him the tools to build a promotion chasing squad, we will still be having this conversation next year at this time. It is not necessary, in the interests of realism, to be spending millions at this level. Look at the squads that Orient, Brentford, and Preston have assembled at little cost.

NC needs the funds to acquire at least 4 quality players ( I'm not talking about Premiership standard either ) whilst also being able to retain the services of players like Harry, Coady, Brayford, Long and Freeman. Two of those need to be strikers with pace and strength and one needs to be a Centre Mid to replace Doyle.

Without these resources we are looking (realistically) at maybe just making the playoffs if NC can continue to wave his magic wand.

I do hope that we're all smiling like Cheshire cats at this time next season, however, I've been supporting SUFC for a long time and I've heard stories of "investing in the playing staff" so many times that I shall believe it when I see it !!

I actually want to see HMS Pisstheleague set sail and complete the journey this time around with all others piddling about in her wake.
I want the top spot so that we have the divisional championship trophy to show for it and become one of the small and exclusive club that has bagged all four league titles - Wolves have now done this league a second time and they pipped us from becoming the first ones to do all four in the Bassett era.

Over 100 points and over 100 goals for will be the target - make it so please

Great turnaround with Nigel in charge.

We could get a 10 point deduction now and still be safe.

That just shows how well Clough has done .

I expect us to do well next season and should really be challenging for the top 2.

Isn't celebrating winning all four leagues a bit like going round bragging that you've shagged Claudia Schiffer and Anne Diamond?

I'm really worried about the effect Morgs is having on Nigel.
Listening to an interview this morning on R/S I noticed that after only six months in the job Nigel's accent is becoming more and more south Yorkshire !!
Morgs has to be the major player in this transformation and I will go so far as to predict that at this rate of absorption by the end of next season Nigel will have become a full blow big soft Sheffield lad.......

When I was in my formative years Anne Diamond had a curious effect on me. Maybe it was because she was on TV first thing in the morning? :) Or should that be a

Mum is wrong .;)
WE WILL be Champions next season, there is no doubt in my mind, some shyte coming down from the Championship, more shyte comin up from pub lge 2,and Nige armed with the Princes' kitty,(remember him?)how impressed is he,Wembley in his first season.and bottom to top 7/8 in a few months and all for a quid !!!!!surely he must put at least oh..a fiver or so in for next year ...;)

I really want to thank Cluff ... and players who have woken the fuck up ... for turning this season from an embarrassing shambles into a triumph. Okay, we aren't promoted, big deal. Cluff scooped up a bunch of poorly-led journeymen who were simply stealing cash from fan's pockets into an FA Cup semi-final team (and they gave it some in front of millions) and one which started performing to their standard, finishing what could have been a disastrous season tucked in behind the playoff places. Its been incredible. They have lost three games in 91 days ... one of those to Premiership opposition and one to the runaway winners of the league title. That says it all about Sheffield United. It also says it all about what is possible next season.

Thanks Nigel. Thanks team. All is forgiven.

Lets piss this league next season and change places with that bunch of cunt at S6 this time next year or better still, have them for breakfast.

Seventh position in the third tier of the leagues, It must be several years since we finished so low. One would expect our mood should refelect our low league position and yet the anticipation for next season and optimism for the future hasn't been higher for many a year.

There's a real general opinion that good times could be well and truly on the cards for the long term. Many positive things have clicked into place at the club at the same time.

Seasons like 2003 were remarkable and yet somehow I personally saw them as enjoyable in isolation to the future. This seems different. OK there'll be 'blips' along the way but it's a journey that we all want to be part of and I am sure all of us can't wait for it to start up again in August. Spread the word !
