I'm not sure where people get this great defender Seriki image from? His positioning, tracking, concentration etc is poor. Sure, he can put a block or tackle in but defending is much more than that. I don't think the other two are good in this area either.
His defending fine for a lad his age
He can be a bit slow out to stop crosses but in every other aspect he's pretty good
Wind most of his personal dueks and actually knows how ti use his body strength rather than having to fly into Tackles

A bit of bad news for you.

He's already played 11 times for them (and scored a goal).
... And he's six months younger than Seriki. I think it's easy to forget this.

His main issue is that he's a natural RCB in a three and we've switched to a four. He's got a good future in the right set up.

Against Leeds gotta be Gilchrist.

Solomon had a poor game against Sunderland as they targeted him with hard early tackles.

Don't think Clarke or Seriki have that in the locker.

He got absolutely torn apart at West Brom away against a very good left winger. 1 of only 2 games he’s started this season.

All the other games he’s played has either been bit parts or in matches were attacking. I’d say his best overall game this season was against Wednesday & Sunderland but he played 45 minutes

He is a championship right back defensively and there’s nothing wrong with that, but when we play the better teams of this division and if we go up I’m not sure he’s good enough defensively.

Hope I’m wrong.
Clarke got torn a new arsehole by Josh Murphy and he was close to getting sent off when he was up against Doughty at Luton. The jury is at best still out on his defensive capabilities.

Gilchrist started to go missing at right back in his last few appearances.

Seriki at least he has the pace to recover if he loses out. His challenge in the Wednesday game went a long way to retaining the full three points.

There is more chance of me winning the lottery than a young RB just returning from injury with no match fitness being put up against Manor Solomon.

Not happening.

Clarke is definitely a Championship right back too, Ipswich fans said as much in the ‘view from’

But that doesn’t change the fact Seriki has started two games & the rest he’s come on as a sub.

We all don’t know if he’s good enough yet as he’s unable to keep fit, based on what I’ve seen he’s a decent championship right back but I’m unsure if he’s a top defender able to make the step up.

That’s not a criticism. The reason I don’t think he’s our number 1 choice is he can’t keep fit.

I would only consider starting Seriki if we go three at the back and I don't want to see this. Clarke vs Soloman scares me. For that reason I want Gilchrist coming back hungry with something to prove.

I would also go with BBD or Brookes over JRS for this one. Leeds overload the wings with two attacking fullbacks. JRS would give them something to think about when we've got the ball but offers no defensive help and leaves us exposed when we don't.

Clarke
Seriki
Gilchrist

Clarke is more experienced more composed and more well rounded. He has height which is a big bonus.

Seriki is so lethal going forward great runs but we saw at Coventry he has a lot to learn. But he’s a young lad learning and he will be the best out of the lot.

Gilchrist is a good solid defender with pace. I don’t know where he ends up in his career. He is far too safe for a right back but too small for a centre half.

He needs to find say a Bolton who play with all the possession in a back 3. Then he would shine.

Clarke was absolutely awful last night. Ran ragged, turned inside out, misplaced, miscontrolled balls, ball watching, out of position and didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing. No wonder Ipswich sent him out on loan because he's never a Premier League player in a month of Sundays.

Based on who's available, I'd keep Choudury there, looked pretty solid and assured. Leeds just switched their attention to the left side and did us down there instead.

Seriki would be my No.1 but I don't think he'll get much of a look in.

I think this team is good enough to play with intensity and attack teams and there's nobody better than Seriki for that out wide.

Gilchrist was steady for a good part of this season. How much Souttar helped with that, I don't know.

His performances certainly dropped a bit but I can't say that I've seen Clarke be an improvement tbh.

We certainly miss that forward drive Seriki can bring coming on later in games.

I thought Bogle was outstanding for them in the 2nd half. Showed what we've been missing.
Seriki is a different player, but the closest thing we have. I think he could be so important for us, but the body seems to let him down and I'm not sure he's got the manager's trust. I'd love to see more of him.

Agree with that. Despite the booing Bogle played well for me. He'd walk into our team.

Think it's time to give Choudhury a run, whether Clarke recovers from his knock or not. He's been bullied by at least 3 different wingers since he's got here.
What has Gilchrist done to be overlooked first a midfielder who looked way out of his sloth at right back. Ally us better than Clarke for me.

GIlchrist was scaring the shite out of me last few games he played for us. A lot of Leicester fans preferred Hamza at right back to Pereira and James Justin. I'd give him a go.

The trouble is he could have been but went obviously for more money. He didn't want to be here

I thought Bogle was very average all of the match if honest. He drove forward and passed to James but it was James who made that goal. Seemed to pass back and take the easy option most times.

I'm surprised anyone wanted to be here after last season.😁
Bogle did not deserve to be booed

We need Seriki back ASAP for home games. Fuck all threat from full back with Clarke or Gilchrist.
I know you always want to give new players a chance but objectively Clarke is one of the worst full backs defensively I’ve seen.

The percentage of games he’s got a roasting in vs not isn’t even 50-50 at this point.

Murphy from a team who are going to finish lower mid table must have wanted to put him in his pocket and take him everywhere he goes.

Leeds had for less joy when Choudhury came on, though he is very much Mr Sideways and Backwards when it comes to passing.

More you think about the subs, the more you think there was some subconscious bias in play. I.e. first sub, get Hamer on, he’s our best player, second sub, get Cannon on, we paid a lot for him. It felt like those decisions were a bit preordained.

When you realise that Choudhury meant there was less down their left it stands to reason they’d go more to the right. The most obvious sub in the match situation to replace tiring wingers was McCallum. He’s also quite quick and he’s good in the air. He would have been ideal to send on and pair up with Burrows against James and Bogle.

Obvious criticism is why did you not bring on Hamer? Despite hlm being poor when he came on, he’s still out best player. But the game situation didn’t lend itself to his abilities. If we were losing or drawing, fine, but making it hard for them out wide where they are strong was a bit of an obvious thing to address.

Likewise, with Cannon, if the aim was to play up top alone and hold up the ball then Moore is that man. He’s also a superb asset on set-pieces.

Different players and the game would have panned out differently but if Burrows and McCallum had been on the left, more chance someone would have stopped James crossing. For the second, you’d expect Moore to beat the centre back to that first header. If at 88 minutes most fans would have accepted a point as Wilder put it, then why is Holding sat getting splinters?

Reminds me a bit of losing at home to Bristol City when down to ten. Wilder went for it and we lost. It was so clearly the wrong decision.

Maybe managers believe their own hype at times but I can think of many instances where you don’t play the percentages and it goes against you; that Bristol C game, Ravel Morrison, Jack Rodwell, not spoiling the final minutes against Leeds…

It’s done now, but just some further reflections.

bogle showed us 2nd half what were missing with seriki out and imo seriki when fit has the potential to be better than bogle also think choudray will now become first choice rb hes solid and better than clarke
