Like many on here will have as well. I spent a period of my pre match experience in Central London yesterday, before taking in the atmosphere around Wembley. I've seen a good bit of whinging about the behaviours of our own fans, having witnessed a bit of supidity myself from a minority.. I too have unfortunately had to contribute and have a little whinge.

But the Citeh fans pre match, I can honestly say that it was a pleasure to share a pint with some of the ones I met over in Baker Street.

Whilst The Globe was full of drunken blady-ness, drugs, sex and rock and roll.... The Wetherspoons over the road and just a stones throw away, had somewhat of a more laid back atmosphere. A large percentage of the crowd in Spoons were blades, however a number of City fans were spotted around the place as well.

The pub probably demostrated a side of football that doesn't get the press it deserves. Little clusters of rival fans enjoying a chat, a laugh, a joke and light hearted banter....The blades sang songs and tried to coax songs out of the city lot, it was all in all just a solid footballing atmosphere.

Like i said before however, I had what I can only describe as the pleasure of sharing mid-pint conversation with a mixed age group of City fans. They were actually highly complimentary of us as a team, stating that they see us as more old fashioned and that in the PL, they remembered us giving them some of the toughest games going. They said that we are disciplined and really hard to break down, which our defensive record s shows to be true (whilst perhaps yesterdays scoreline didnt). One of them watched us against Cardiff on TV and said how dangerous we looked attacking, going on to drool about Ndiaye 😳😳 (I know, i was shocked with all the players at their disposal). He was saying how deceptively strong Ndiaye is for a slight build and how if he carries on he will end up at a top european club. One bloke was also saying how it would be nice to have us back in the Premier League and to have more local away matches, as he gets fed up of all the travelling.

I then accidentally insulted an old gentleman with a poorly thought out, drunken question. I obviously didnt mean to insult and my intent was genuine, but he took nark to it 😂😂

I just asked if he missed being the Old Man City basically.. a proper old fashioned club, playong football at an old fashioned ground....as opposed to the huge, global team that they are now. I mean it's not half bad being a team of global superstars is it? Plying your trade against Europes best all the time etc etc....But as seasoned fans, I wondered if he had any preference....

This was met with a very annoyed "what are you on about, were still city"... blah de blah. Obviously accidentally touched a nerve on that one.

But as a whole I guess the whole davod v goliath thing made for an interesting pre match atmosphere. It was nice to see that they didnt take us for granted and that they respected us as a club and as fans.

You know what, I genuinely hope they go on and win the treble.

City have had some very dark days and seemed to court drama. The relegation at stoke, play off win v Gillingham from 2-0 down, the 5-2 derby win v Man U and living in the aforementioned’s shadow for years.

I’m sure as a fan, you can’t but enjoy the success and amazing players/style of football. But and it’s an outsiders view - Man City are not the club they once were.

Maine road, massive loyal supporters and a hatred for their bigger rivals all appealed to me as a blade.

I’m sure that city fans of a certain age miss what they used to represent. Let alone the dubious nature of their financial backing.

That’s weird, I overheard a bunch of city fans on the train after the game…

“We were in spoons pregame and this Yorkshire wanker was forcing us into conversation. We entertained him by giving it the whole, ‘yeah you are a good team, blah blah’, but then old Brian couldn’t bite his tongue any longer and lost his shit, so we fucked off. We thought about him when the third went in, LOLz”

You knob 🤣🤣

Good un that, fair play haha

But this is what I am getting at. Light hearted banter (like your reply) is what football is all about for me.

Are they becoming as arrogant and entitled as the Scousers? I know its a line from an Oasis song which may be intended to express their love for their club, but it comes across as if they are taking the piss over their multi million pound team of superstars.

I was sat next to some City fans on the train back up north. They hadn’t gone with each other, so were talking about the game. I didn’t have colours on, so they didn’t know I was a Blade (or even that I’d been to the game).

Oddly, they both thought they’d been lucky, and the penalty “got them off the hook”. They weren’t optimistic about the final, or the Champions League.

So long as they deny Arsenal the title I’m happy. Living in north London can be annoying at times.

Also regardless of the money Pep is a great manager, he would have constructive words for ph after the game no doubt.

I lived in Gorton Manchester for a while and played for a team full of City fans who went to as many games as they could. When I meet them now none of the goto the games. They may be the best team in the world but they have definitely lost their soul Even Pep gone on about how bad their support his and as already started to try and get them up for Madrid

"Cheers Hecky. As promised, I'll sanction another season for MCatee, let you have Kyle on a free and £15m for Doyle seems fair enough. That ok pal?"

Think you're reading into it abit too much..

Used to go to a few City games late 90s early 00s and mix with their fans away from the match.

No question in my mind their support was more raw and organic then. We'd go exactly the samecway if we had their journey.

I went to a pub in Minneapolis where the local Citeh supporters club were having their fifth anniversary bash. Obnoxious dickheads who’ve downloaded all their chants, for the most part.

The real ones are generally ok. They've been through the mill, had to spend years in the shadow of Fergie's Man Utd. I don't begrudge them what they have now. It must be incredible to have supported a club for 20, 30, 40 years and suddenly watch them become THE European powerhouse club. They must be in dreamland.

However, I have no time at all for the johnny-come-lately City "fans." They're the definition of plastic, and if city suddenly dropped away, they'd all be off in a shot to "support" whoever was winning at the time.

Also don't really have time for little kids who worship City. Must be so easy to support a team that wins everything all the time.

You're finding it arrogant and entitled because you want it to be arrogant and entitled.

Completely nothing wrong with that at all

the problem i have with city is how the pundits continually keep drooling on about them yet convieniently forget the vast amounts of money they spend on the top players in the world its a massive factor in their success and totally unfair imo ffp obviously doesnt work or the powers that be dont want it to work either

Didn't want it to be arrogant and entitled. Its the way it came across to a grumpy old blade. Anyway we gave it a jolly good booing!

I don’t disagree, but…

Say you’re one of the ‘real ones’ - supported city through the league one days etc. you’re a die hard City fan and have been for 30/40 years…

You have kids and you raise them to be City fans too, the team you grew up supporting is unrecognisable compared to the serial trophy winners you have now - but what about else do you do? Tell your kids to support Bury because it’s more real?!

With respect mate, that’s nonsense. Pep tried to shake everyone in the club out of complacency for a push in the second half of the season and it worked brilliantly. It was nothing more than him applying his genius and geeing everyone up as we couldn’t afford to drop any points in pursuit of Arsenal.

City’s support is spot on, particularly away from home. The only slight problem I have with being successful is someone always wants to have a dig about something, you get fed up of reading it as most of it is bullshit, but it just gets swallowed up and then repeated and repeated to myth proportions by plastic fans of some (two) of our rivals. I mean there are people out there who genuinely believe we have 10,000 empty seats every game, it’s bullshit, there’s been maybe two games that haven’t sold out this season and again it’s not solely with tourists as social media would have you believe, the hardcore local fans are still there in large numbers (perhaps your old mates excepted). Yesterday is another fine case in point, some would have you believe that we had a few hundred in our end and not close to 35,000, which is a quality following with so many other huge games on the horizon.

Best of luck for the rest of the season - I’ve always preferred Blades out of the Sheffield clubs and the PL will be better with you in it.

It takes a special manager to manage the players he does. I know that some think that it’s easy with an open cheque book but there are not many managers that can do what he can. I’m sure he had a lot of words with Hecky. He has done exactly what Pep wanted and more with Doyle and McAtee. I would say he has managed them perfectly over a season, which has been to the benefit of both clubs

You make a good point re: other games coming up. I was discussing it with a mate on the way back about us not selling out and how city didn't sell out either. But fuck me, it must be an expensive team to follow, champs league, rip off prem clubs (cough, arsenal, cough).

I actually thought you were quiet as a whole yesterday, only heard you when you scored... but I'll caveat that with being motivated as a fan when you're playing a team you should be easily beating can be hard, we've had some home games where we've been shit because we are playing someone at the bottom, not through arrogance but just because its just a run of the mill game.

Anyway, I'm rambling, good luck and I hope you overhaul arsenal.

This is not a normal response when your team go 1-0 up in a semi final of the Fa cup. I rember going to main road 3 or 4 times ones in a milk cup or some other cup and losing 4-2 the atmosphere there was one of the best in the country

I really don’t know why you have to be of a certain vintage, to be a “proper fan.” We all had to start somewhere and as regards to Man City…this is their golden era, if they don’t pick up new fans now…they never will.

The city fans I spoke to were all middle aged and very chill (which would partly reflect the venue). They said said they hope their younger fans don’t grow up to be entitled, but thought it inevitable.
