Chris Wilder the tactical genius

There is only Wednesday with a worse run of form in the last six games ................... phuck him off.

If we’re being generous you could argue he was trying something different and he did at least have enough wherewithal to change it at half time, after which we looked like an actually functioning football team.

However, that first half was one for the ages in terms of all time worst blades performances - chief conductor of the shit choir being Joe Slothwell

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Plenty of folk on here wailing and blorting about 4 at the back, so he goes with 3 and two wingbacks and they're still blorting. 🤷‍♂️
If you’re going to change a system to see if it will prove to be more effective, But at the same time also swap half of your regular starting line up, then how would you determine if its the system or the different players that have brought about a positive or negative outcome??

He’s burnt bridges with a few of the squad and he’s going to have to try and get them out of the club, which might be easier said than done with some of them. He’s also very likely to lose a few players he wants to keep. It’s a bit of a shit show at the moment, with the potential for the noise to get quite a bit louder if there isn’t a marked improvement in results over the next six games.

Then, we are facing a summer that needs to be transformational and if the season just peters out into nothingness and a bottom 6 finish following the brief promising spell we had before MacCallum got injured the discontent is going to rumble on until we see what sort of players are coming through the door. Let’s hope that’s well underway before August.

Whatever formation we play we have zero organisation. Our back 4 and sometimes 5 are not in sync. Tanganga while good at tackling and recovering is not leading at the back and not communicating. He is never in line with the rest. Our fullbacks in a 4 defend two narrow allowing time and space for the opposition.

Jairo is fine. Rothwell is lazy and just phoning it in. No drive no urgency. Bamford who started really well when he came first. Looks like he is already on holidays. Peck is slowly adding to his game, and gave one or two straight passes forward for Bamford. Mostly we go down the wings and slow it all down. Seriki did put in an early cross or two that created danger but we dont do enough of it.
Hamer and O'Hare are creative but we lack variety when we play the two together as they take too many touches.

What ever about tactics we only flow now and then and that is when we move the ball quickly. Chris if you are reading this. Chong and Rothwell, need to be binned, they aren't bothered about football they are more interested in their hair. McGuinness/ Ser Duncan the Tall tries but is out of his depth.

Soumare did head the ball once in a disappointing 45 minutes. Usually he has a yellow or red by then and we at least could grumble about disciple or even celebrate that he rightly Banjoed one of the opposition.
Alas it is evident from the warm ups I have seen lately that we are not tuned in and not up for a scrap. Even Peck is looking drowsy. Its been awhile since he instigated a pushing and shoving and mouthing match.

And finally Chris you might give me a shout about recruitment going forward. You can bring Bettis along and we can scout at a few matches. You would be surprised that quite a few fans do know a player when they see on. Watkins when at Brentford. 2021 I was suggesting Hamer and Gyorkeres. Somenyo when at Bristol City. Josh Coburn last season and was bought for 3 Million. Scott Twine to replace Hamer if he left in the summer.

I can't see the board sacking Wilder in the summer - they've only just brought him back after sacking him before. I think that players, even some of the good ones, need moving on. The squad needs freshening up with some new blood. Hamer's a case in point; quality player, but now often jaded.

My theory about Wilder has always been that he's a very good manager with "his" players, which explains why he's not done so well when he's tried to manage other manager's teams. I'd be looking at bringing in some hungry players from the lower leagues, although I concede it won't be easy to shift some of the bigger earners. It's back to the pre-Wilder era in that regard, I suppose.

Not forgetting according to Wilder it’s not systems and formations that win you matches but attitudes, I wonder if we go 0-0-10 for our next match and see what we get from it.

Anyone seen the match stats?
Fuck me.
Bellends going on about tactics.
If we finished halt the chances we had we’d have won that 3-1 and that includes gifting them a goal cos Burrows couldn’t be arsed to tackle Sykes 🤦‍♂️

No, I watched it instead

It jut shows that our fans are never happy with Chrisseh Wids.

He’s been getting abuse for the team going in front and then after a half time de motivational speech managing to lose at least 2 points in the second half.

Today he’s changed it up, played some of our poorer players (the ones he said weren’t good enough at the weekend) and told the team to play absolutely abysmally from the start. Then we played ok second half.

Still people aren’t happy.

What do people expect?! I think it’s greedy to expect a team capable of putting in a performance for a full game and I can’t believe the entitlement of our fans. Us punters should just be happy to turn up every week and watch the mighty Blades.

I am thinking some of this squad are carrying injuries which is common by this point of the season.

That's all I can think in terms of his somewhat random substitutions.

If you watched and saw the match stats you’ll see that they only had one shot on target
If it helps look at the stats from this link
They might have only had one 'shot' on target but they had plenty of gilt edged opportunities. One that was flashed across the goal line and somehow Tanganga didn't turn it into his own net. But that doesn't show up on your silly little stats sheet.

Are you happy with that level of performance then? I hope you've watched plenty of League 1 football and are familiar with it because that's where it gets you.

Was that a shot on target?
No
Did Tanga prevent a certain goal?
Yes.
How is that any different to a blocked shot?
It’s good defending after poor defending.
Brooks had several shots on target that the keeper saved. They were chances created and shots on target.
The missed chance from Bamford from the perfect cross by Seriki should have been buried. No defender intercepted it. That was created by good play.

If we hadn’t created so many chances my (the BBC actually) “silly stats” would have illustrated a completely different picture, but they didn’t. Blades created far more than BC but they won it with their only shot on target the whole game. We should have scored 3. If those stats and that performance were reversed many people would be quite rightly pissed off and staring we’d got away with one.

Tbh

Can’t think of many games we have deserved to lose / not win .

If the set of shankers had took their virtually open goal chances we’d be cruising .

Agree

He’s in a no win situation in many aspects . It’s just a matter of time and as soon as we lose two on the bounce next season - it will get very nasty

We do need to get rid of him! But also get rid of a few players! Its not all Wilder's fault! I dont rate him in the modern game as a manger but the players need to take a lot of the responsibility! We need a factory reset with determined players coming in to play for a manger that can understand the modern game!

He literally got outplayed by Roy who is nearly entering his 80's! Lets be honest, they didnt play very well but still beat us! I think we are very lucky with the likes of Leicester and West Brom doing so badly!

More or less all the players we should be testing out aren't even at the club right now
Fair point but obviously not possible so it’s fair enough to try out the limited pool we may want to keep. As a Wilder fan over time, his time is probably up but don’t want another summer sacking so makes sense to see how the rebuild goes. Make or break towards Christmas.

The team is desperately short of quality all over the pitch, but most significantly at the back and up front.

The defence are all over the place and look like a set of individuals rather than a cohesive unit and need a leader to organise things which Tanganga isn’t.

Our striking options are pitiful. Bamford has been a vast improvement since he came in, but he must have missed as many as he’s scored, he snatches at chances when he has time to take a touch, which is baffling from a player of his experience and just highlights a lack of awareness.
Billy Sharp would have had 30 goals this season.

But throughout the squad, with the exception of Brookes and Seriki, the essential qualities that are glaringly lacking are pace, athleticism, fitness, unity and a ‘fucking die for three points mindset’

My retained list would fit on a Rizla.
