Chris’s interview

Word salad bollox. Wilder Sounds bereft of ideas or any insight into what is going on. Not his fault in any way, apparently, the players keep making ‘poor decisions’. Strategy was right, tactics were right, so no problems with the management - the players are just are too stupid to expedite the ‘master plan’. Yet another half time talk and reset that produces absolutely zero change in mindset or tactics. Unsurprisingly, doing nothing produces the same result. I like the guy, think he is genuine and passionate about the club. However, rinse and repeat ain’t working and time for a change. The play off final isn’t a bad bad memory, it’s a recurring nightmare
Local journos deliberately & consistently miss open goals :

Wilder on RS:
"we were not at our best" ,
"but in those circs , the players should find a way to win"
A PROPER JOURNO SHOULD SAY
"just a minute Chris ,
WHY were they not at their best ?"
"Isn't that your job ?
To coach & motivate them & select & set them up , such that when they step on that pitch , they ARE at their best ?"

CW can often come out with such BS and never gets picked up , so never needs to reel it in

Probably because no team is ever always at their best. There isn't always an explanation as to why, it just happens to all humans in every sport.

There's no BS about it, it's just standard post match manager talk. All managers are ultimately blamed for performances and results, he'll know this as well as anyone.

T
I have worked with hundreds of people with very impressive qualifications who haven’t got the first clue how to apply what they have learned.
To go back to your original point where you said the players, apart from a few lacked intelligence and then gave exceptions such as Bamford, Is it because he’s got a degree? Doesn’t matter if the footballer has qualifications or not, it shouldn’t even need to be discussed, same with the colour of someone’s skin. I judge them on footballing ability alone albeit with far less experience of the game than those I’m judging.

The owners , the club and the supporters to a degree are in a bit of a catch 22 situation.

On one hand Wilder is a good championship manager , he'll generally put out a team to compete well , not be relegated , and therefore a safe option if the ambition of the club is to do that .
From reports he's not a guy who wants to work under a DOF and wants control over the football side of the club / business including recruitment.

On the other hand if the ambitions of the owners and supporters is to not just get promoted to the PL but stay there then there are doubts that under the current setup and personnel thats unlikely to be realised.

The Selles gamble highlites the risk , returning to Wilder as supreme leader is to many a safe but unambitious option .

So we get stuck in a recurring argument of looking at what wilder has achieved, the Selles saga and what direction the club takes .

Keeping it as it is has its merits, doing bit part change didnt work , but wholesale change ( DOF, head coach new approach ) is risky and the owners probably dont have the knowledge to manage that process .

At some stage the club and its owners need to decide where we want to be and just how we get there .

Its a tough call whichever.
Whilst ever the owners allow Bettis the influence he has, the club will never move forward in the direction of growth and success. He is a weasel !

Did they ask why Femi Seriki didnt start or why against a team intent on defending deep they would not let someone who can dribble past people at least have a go at it for more than 5 minutes or so.

Journalists, especially the local ones will never risk asking any proper/useful questions because they’re too worried about annoying Wilder and losing the access to the club they currently get. If they’re not acting like his best mate he’ll start giving them the bare minimum and make their job harder so they stick to the same mundane questions over and over.

This 👆🏽 post describes it exactly.

Staton accused Wilder after the game of it being pedestrian (using other words) and Wilder went off on one.

Giddings asks the occasional challenging question and gets shot down aggressively. I like Giddings, he's an honest guy and imagine he leaves Wilder interviews feeling like sh1t some days.

Wilder never treats the national press the same way for big games, which speaks volumes.

His favourite was that guy Mike🤣

He had no time for him at all.

I do take the point JT89 made.

It’s sad but only at the obvious end of someone’s tenure do they really get to ask what they should.

I recall David Weir’s last interview when he simply had no answers. Awkward in the extreme!
