Not to disheartened by the performance that iv jus seen from the cheap seats (tv). But we didn't look good going forward either. De girolamo 'sort of' showed his potential but my word, Louis Reed will be sold this time next year!

We never wanted all that free paint anyway.

I'm gutted. I went to the pub all fired up and left feeling totally deflated. What a let down in such a massive game.

It was a major quarter final, after all, and a potential Wembley appearance awaited. Can't understand why Baxter, JCR and Scroogs started on the bench. This club is showing no ambition. We were on the big stage, the Sky TV cameras were there, and we blew it.
What a waste.

:-)

I can't remember a defeat ever feeling as good. You can shove that trip to Wembley right up your sphincter.

Losing is never a good habit to have no matter how you look at it,and the manner of the defeat was what infuriated me the most. The JPT and we still can't show enough in the way of going for it with nothing to lose.Ask Bristol City what winning is all about,we are absolutely clueless at times, and don't say oh it's the JPT and all this shit to paper over it,Wallsall were in the same boat and showed just a touch more in the way of going to win a match, only a touch mind.

If we'd have lost going all guns blazing i propably wouldn't have been too bothered, but that was way too negative yet again and this isn't a knee jerk reaction.Look at my posts after games,i very rarely slate us,if ever tbh.

Why oh why do we ponce around a pitch waiting for something to happen,i'm sorry but it's about time we took the bull by the horns so to speak and took some initiative in games,it's becoming embarassing at times, way too laboured.

Agree, two terrible overhit passes to the right that even Billy Whizz couldnt reach!

Aye they were what stood out for me too. The one to Alcock in the second half was particularly disappointing because he had so much space to aim it into and I thought he'd have made it with ease.

I'm not singling the lad out mind, there were others out there as bad/far worse than he.

I watched it in one of the local bars here. Well to be honest I only saw the first half. We were dire. A poor game and then some pratt cottoned on to the fact that I support SUFC and the ched shit started - can't help wondering if it also had an impact on the players too.

I think its unfair to single out our youngest player for criticism. There were a lot more senior players out there who looked like they didn't want to be there and it showed. Can somone tell me why Porter is still at the club drawing a wage. And has Davies upset NC cos he doesn't even get in this shambles of a team.

Being knocked out of the JPT is less worrying than the nature of the performance. It wasn't a full strength team but there were a lot of regulars out there and we managed to make Walsall, a pretty mediocre team in the league, look like Brazil. Manset was running through our defence at will at some points.

We're not playing well at the moment in any competition. Too many players not performing.

Nobody more disappointed in his performance than Louis......still learning

He's a smashing talent.
Last night I thought his first touch, normally one of his greatest assets, let him down a lot - especially in the first 45.
He is normally very adept at controlling and turning in one movement, away from the player closing him down, but last night it seemed that the ball ran away from him on those turns whereas it normally sticks like glue.
The other thing that made Louis look out of sorts is the complete lack of movement in front of him. He holds control of the football and looks, if there is nothing on he looks again, avoids a challenge, then looks again but last night he invariably had to resort to playing a channel ball instead of playing it into feet around the edge of the box and going for the return. Too many players around him hid last night and made it easy for the Walsall defence to cover their goal keeper. If Louis had been playing with Bradshaw and Manset then he would have played them in on goal several times.

Diego is wasted out wide left. He is not a winger, like Murphy - why do managers always play the youngster out of position in these circumstances? It baffles me. Diego has been doing well at York in the central striker role so for goodness sake, if we are going to use him in our first team, use him in that role. He caused so much more trouble when he came inside than obeying Chris Morgan's shouts to get out wide. We would have been far better off having Flynn and JCR as the wide men last night with Diego centrally, with Reedy feeding him and leaving Porter on the bench. As and when Diego had tired - then bring Porter on to shore things up or go long if required.

That's basically everything I came on here to say!
What I will add is, if that's Diego's "chance" I'm going to be fuming. Playing up top with porter isn't great at the best of times-
but playing the slowest-weakest-least mobile player at the club in the kids position while throwing him out wide(like he did miller when he came back!) is a joke

Fuck me - you could have at least thrown me a "like" for saving you all that trouble if it was that accurate, FTPE - Strewth :o

A mediocre team that's compared to your team on a fraction of the budget the last couple of seasons, and who have a reputation fo playing decent football, as you'll have seen if you've been the games against us in the last couple of years.

We haven't started the season well, but Dean Smith has only had a full squad to pick from in the last 4 games after injuries to key players, and has got 3 wins and a draw from those games.

I don't think our teams will be a million miles apart in the league by May. Whether that says more about us or you (or both managers) , I don't know.

Well that's my point, surely with our differences in resources we should be doing better against you. Also I appreciate that Walsall play decent football but with respect you're not amongst the strongest teams in the league (clearly neither are we), the last few seasons you've finished around mid-table and it looks like you're heading for a similar position this season.
I've nothing against Walsall but the expectation pre-season at United was to be challenging for an automatic place and to do that you need to beat mid-table sides. You might say that's arrogant but based on how the team looked at the end of last season, I'd say it's reasonable. Things haven't worked out that way though and we're a long way off the quality of that team at the moment.

This post just about sums things up with us at present FFS

Just as a matter of interest, wtf was Doyle doing on that back post when he was apparently trying to clear it,it was absolutely pathetic and he wasn't even looking at the ball until it was too late.

Yes he over hit one and then a perky little 17 year old (just) tried it again.

Failed again - but it takes bottle to do it a second time.

Not his best game but taking the ball on the edge of our box on his chest, then 2 touches later he has laid it off shows maturity and skill beyond his years.

The kid has pure quality and it should be nurtured - as NC is doing.

Makes a change for a decent player coming through not to be a right full back.

Fulwood, finally someone making sense. It's the first time I've seen Reed and if that's him on a bad day, I can't wait to see him when he plays well.
He played 2 bad balls because there was no movement, he was our only driving force in midfield and had our only 2 on target shots.
The rest were poor except Basham and Turner (as mentioned) and Diego when he played up front - suddenly we looked dangerous

Talking about chest downs, what a take that was from Diego on his chest on the edge of the box,i think it was Harris who struck it into him,it was class.

You can over blow a player, but everyone has to remember he is just 17. Thought he was one of our best players v Crewe and for all the time he has played I don't think he has had a bad game. Walsall wasn't good, but neither was it bad - I also recall 2 shots from Reid from outside the box - anyone else have a shot?????

It seems NC will use him sparingly this season - perhaps 20 (ish) games, but maybe he could be Doyles (possibly) replacement for next season?

One thing is certain, we have a gem on our hands and it won't be lost on scouts from the prem. Championship clubs might as well not bother - he is going to the top as long as the club manage him right and dare I say a stupid fucking agent doesn't whisk him away........anyone heard of Harry lately?....what a shame it went as it did.

yes it was - he also killed a few when pinged to him on the wing.
Again this lad has talent - just hope we can hang on to them.

Anyone know of others in the pipeline? - Reid just suddenly appeared from no where.

Hope he starts Diego on Saturday in the centre forward role he'll thrive on the responsibility he's ready make no mistake.
FFS sake don't let him go back to York he's already streets above that level I reckon that would have an averse affect on his progress.

The only reason that I can think of to play Porter& McGinn is put them in the shop window for sale in the JTW or "rent" out on loan. In my view neither did enough to gain would-be employers.

Ironically, 2 players ( Diego and Louis) that we don't want other clubs to notice were picked to play too.
