Just arrived in WHF Jr Sr's inbox. 22 - 78. I wouldn't've guessed that at all. Also didn't they have at least three shots (shots being loosely defined eg it includes headers) on target - two saves from free kicks by Howard and a low shot he gathered well in the first half?

Looks like our stats under Clough - although the shots off target and corner count would have been reversed - and the shots on target looks a little too high

78% possession is peak tiki-taka - think Barcelona under Guardiola. I'd humbly suggest that the possession stats in WHF Jr Sr's email are bollocks.

They can have as much possession as they like after the game Alco. It counts for nothing once that final whistle has blown Mate ;-)
I totally agree. It was just a counter to the silly 80% stat further up.

That said, it does reflect that what we already know;

The defence soaked up loads of pressure and did a great job.

The midfield 2 was overrun and didn't.

How many games did we dominate possession wise last season and still either come away empty handed or with a draw? We were masters at keeping possession up to the opposition 18 yard box and then doing nothing with it. Much happier and confident that we'll play with more penetration (insert schoolboy gag here) even if it means not having as much possession.

The way we played under Clough, 4-5-1 with (as you say) no penetration from midfield will always give us more possession. Adkins preferred 4-4-2 will give us less possession, but (in theory) more goal attempts.
