Moore. Pray tell what he should have done which in your excellent professional opinion as a goalkeeper he could have done? Swallowed it? Got out of the way? Shows you know nothing whatsoever about the position. I will be the first to tell you when a keeper has screwed up, but if he did, at least get it right as to why he did. Had any experience of reacting to a ball struck perfectly at over 60mph from 8 yards?
Not quite Lorrimer then, is it?

Are you old enough to get that one, Snowy?

Oh yes. He and Woodward could hit them as hard as I have ever seen, and that is with the old heavy balls. It took a very sweet strike to do what he did consistently. He had that ability. I know now that between 80 and 110 is now considered fast but they are mostly looking at a 25/30 yarder from a free kick. You face something from 8 yards at 60mph and try and react and see how you fare.Cricketers get 22 yards at 80/90 mph. I don't mind him criticising his positioning and therefore anticipation of the shot from the position, but he hasn't got a clue if he is looking at it from any other point of view.

Not a huge fan of stats, far too many factors that aren't taken into account for them to mean a lot.
Totally agree, 96.8% of stats are unreliable, also 58.6% of all stats don't take into account external variable unstable influences, while the remaining 41.4% are utter bollocks.

67% of the population agree with that.

He should have had a firm wrist and tipped it over the bar or around the post. I expected him to get enough in the way of it to keep it out. And that's clearly what Wilder thought too. It's the second time he's been beaten at his near post in a month. At the level he's playing at, whilst not an absolute howler, I'd expect him to be disappointed.

I've played as a keeper in men's Football before and managed a men's Football team so I'm as aware as a forum poster could be expected to be. But I don't see your point other than the fact we disagree. Which I can live with, without questioning your credentials to pass comment.

Blades myths debunked No 274:- Blackwell only managed Leon Britton in 3 matches.

And during the first of those games, Britton laid on Evans' equaliser against Cardiff with an excellent pass into the penalty area.

Sadly, after that strong start, he spent the rest of his time at the Lane standing in the centre circle exchanging short passes with the back 4 whilst the opposition waited for us to actually try and attack.

Hardly 'debunked', as Blackwell signed him, presumably because he was told he was a 'quality player'.

He then realised he had no idea how to fit in him the team, as with his successor, St Gary.

Part of the reason he only lasted 3 games in that season was the dreadful signings he made then and earlier. James Harper, Brian Howard and Darrius 'put your fists up' Henderson, spring to mind.

My earlier point was about Billy. Terry Robinson signed him and it was obvious Robson didn't know how to play him (or want him), so kept sticking him on the wing. Blackwell continued the stupidity, when it was obvious to all that Bill was a goal scorer.

Blackwell planned on a midfield trio of Britton, Montgomery and Quinn. For the life of me, I could not work out where he expected the goals and assists to come from (Quinn was stuck in his "elpiton" period at the time).

I thought that was the least creative midfield I would ever see at the Lane, but Nigel Adkins had other ideas.

Against Cardiff, Blackwell played Britten as an attacking, creative midfielder. You could call it the "Duffy" role.

He played well, created a goal and we got a very creditable draw with ten men against the eventual runners up.

I didn't see the defeat against eventual champions QPR but two league games is not enough to decide that Blackwell wasted Britten's talent by hoofing it over his head. He didn't. That's the myth.

Agree with that. My position (which I know is not a popular one) is that Britton was not only a terrible fit for the team but that he didn't have the talent to begin with. Blackwell never got a chance to use him and find out.

Which makes one wonder what he thought he was signing Ertl for. When you consider he left Palace because they wouldn't pay him what he wanted, it's likely he was on decent money at the Lane.

Oh God. I forgot about him. Yes, we had another midfield black hole in reserve.

You just need to compare Blackwell's signings over his two and half years with CW's. In about a month he'd already signed more suitable players than KB did in his entire tenure.

It's a myth but one related to the Quinn we saw under Blackwell in comparison to the Quinn we saw before and after. He was obviously under instruction to move the ball up field instantly. Something which, unless Blackwell was changing his ways, would no doubt have been similar to Britton's remit.

Blackwell was hopeless with skilled midfielders. Quinn, Dyer, Britton and Cotts all flourished away from his management.

Noted, understood and well said.
