Chelsea name their price for Blackman

With Courtois being poor and rumoured to be going to Real Madrid, would Chelsea push Caballero to first team keeper and have Blackman as back up to bring him upto scratch? Don't know if I can see Chelsea doing that myself but the dodgy source of this rumour isn't much to go by either

I think the Brayford ship has sailed personally.

When we paid was was apparently around £2 mil for Brayford's return, I was looking forward to seeing more of his contributions that we all enjoyed on his first visit. Sadly, this was never going to be repeated. Given the messages that accompanied uncle Jim's glowing response to Brayford return to the club I assumed, I admit, with hindsight, naively, that this might be the beginning of further increases in our ability to buy better players. Sadly it stopped with Brayford, but times change, or perhaps they don't, and now we're in a very different financial landscape for football in general. As has been suggested elsewhere, if our board cannot club together and give Wilder a minimum of £10 million to at least widen his choice of proposed purchases, then we really are darning socks to ensure that we get our money's worth from previous buys. While we repair and mend, other clubs simply buy new, and better, players.

IF that’s really the price, it’s a snip though as has been mentioned, his wages would be an issue.
Sounds all a bit too good to be true though.

And if he wants £30k a week wages, what do you say then?

That’s a different matter. If he prices himself out then that’s the end of it. But that’s not my point.

This club has to stop thinking it can do things on the cheap. One day it will have to splash a bit more than 600k on a league 1 player.

And the point I'm making is that judging deals by transfer fees is a daft way to do it as the fee is usually a fraction of the total cost of signing a player.

You need to learn not worry about headline fees because the real cost is in agents fees, signing on fees, wages and other incidental expenses connected with employing people.

A £1.5m transfer fee is equivalent to over £25k a week in wages for a year.

You can only spend what you have once and personally I'd rather pay it to our players rather than other clubs, players agents etc.

He's not the only decent keeper in the world and if £1.5m is too much to pay then that's fine by me just so long as we do go out and get better VALUE elsewhere.

I hope you can appreciate the difference between price and value.

Fake news for me!!.
Why would Chelsea give him an improved contract at the start of the season which he signed!. Now they're suddenly saying a few months later that he can go as he's surplus to requirements?.
Chelsea aren't exactly short of money so why cash in when he's not been given a chance down there?.
Even if it is true?. We'd not be able to sign him due to the current boardroom squabbling which don't look as though it's not gonna be sorted any time soon!!!!. UTB
But signing the deal was a win win for both Chelsea and Jam. Chelsea aren’t going to pay his wages as they know they can loan him out to a club who will pay the wages. Jam gets higher wages and loaning club can’t complain as it’s in Jam’s contract. If Jam plays well then A his value goes up. B other clubs will be looking to loan him. Loaning club also wins as they get a £1.5m player for about a £1m for the season in wages but no risk if he gets injured or is rubbish, end of the year he goes back

Now we're getting there....

Surely Chelsea can just give him to us ! Would make it a lot easier

Yeah, you’re right.

Better keep shopping around the reserve sides or lower leagues. What good is ambition eh?

Is it not his wages that may put us of signing him. I have seen some crazy quotes on what he earns?
Reckon he’ll be on £15/£20K per week. Which I suspect would make him one, if not the, top earner at the Lane, if he only wanted the same.

Surely all development players in the Prem have to take a wage cut at some point in favour or regular football. Not many make it with the top 6

Agreed. My point was the story has appeared in the mirror!!!. I don't really put much faith into a media article as it generally tends to be complete and utter bollox 90% of the time. Wilder has probably got his transfer mediator talking to Chelsea already to see where he stands?. The current boardroom situation will not be helping his cause though?. I M H O

£24k per week, I understand.

Might cause a minor ripple with everybody else, all of whom are on less than half of that.

Hands up those who truly believe Chelsea will sell us Blackman for £1.5 million. Absolutely no chance. If it were to happen, I`d show my backside in Woolworths if it was still there.
I've been trying to put my hand up for the last hour n half, but this bastard lightbulb is having none of it!!

While hrh bog roll and Kev are scratching each other's eyes out in court someone like Barnsley or leeds will tie him up in a pre season contract. Ne t season could be a write off with them two big egos at each other.

This will always be an issue to contend with if and when we do get a bigger financial backing. Unless you have the finances for a complete rebuild, how do you incorporate higher earning players that you will need take it to the next level, without upsetting the balance of the existing squad?

I'm not 100% sure everyone understands the model Chelsea operate under. It's more of a business than most other clubs and it throws out the player's worth. £1.5 million is absolutely nothing to a club like that. They have a HUGE wage bill and £1.5 million only represents around 25k a week to them for a year.

However, £12 million is a decent return for them.. They won't expect this upfront, but they will sell for a nominal fee to us (£1.5 million) and take the risk that if we get promoted soon and turn into a top 10 Premier League club, we will be looking to sell to the top four for around £25 million. They cash in on their 50% sell on clause they inserted when they sell him to us.

Granted this is a risk for them, but when you think they usually loan around 40-50 players a season, all of which are about as good as Blackman, they only need to get lucky with 3 or 4 a year to recoup about £50 million a year. They have absolutely no loyalty to Blackman, he is just a number to them and will be farmed out to the place where he will most likely to make them the most money in the long term.

Put that into context when judging Blackman's value.

Get rid of the existing squad?

We’ll probably be hoping someone bids 20m for Che Adams so we can fund it.

Isn’t he the last of the sell on gang? Or maybe Harry and Kyle winning the world cup increases their fees and therefore our sell-on gets supplemented!

For all the people who still don't understand sources and think that these websites are themselves the source, here you go:

I still don't really believe it. It would seem more like a loan fee. I think even we'd find £1.5m to sign him permanently. But the wages will be a big challenge.

If we wouldn't pay £1.5m as a transfer fee then it is indeed time to pack it in altogether.

We paid that for Brayford didn’t we?

Really? Do goalkeepers go for £15M then?

We should definitely buy him if so.

They do these days. Didn't Jordan Pickford go for about £30m? Jack Butland's next move will be North of that I reckon.
