Player Suggestion Ched Evans?

Just when the club and the fans reconnect...this.

Care to elaborate? I'm not being funny with you, I'm just genuinely interested in why you think it will split the fan Base?
I can understand the argument when he was a convicted rapist but.... now he is not and is an innocent man then I cannot see the issue here?

From a playing point of view, I can see him having a field day with the through balls from Fleck, Coutts and Duffy.

Not a bad start to the season with Sharp, Clarke, Lavery, Evans and Hanson to choose from :)

Re-signing Evans now may still raise argument in some quarters but will be considerably less controversial with Evans having cleared his name.

£500k seems a bit steep, but how much did Hanson cost from Bradford? Probably similar so with similar records this season it's maybe the going rate.

I very much doubt this decision will have been made behind Wilder's back, so if Wilder is on board then why not?

To me it depends on who else comes in, if he's the only striker we sign then I'll be disappointed, but as a bit of a gamble with 1 or 2 other strikers coming in, then it makes sense.

Didn't see this one coming at all?! Not sure I'm over the moon about it, not because its chef but because I'm unsure if he will ever rediscover that magic? But i trust in wilder and if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me UTB

If it's good enough for Wilder it should be good enough for all of us after what he's just achieved. Some need to give their heads a wobble.

I'm surprised, but I'm not disappointed.

The guy is innocent. Has a huge amount of ability and a very big point to prove. With a Knill and Tufty pre-season if he can get fit he is still a good age - prime time really.

He looked good in the game we played against them earlier in the season - so I think it could end up being a smart move. He's 3-4 years younger than Clarke and Sharp, won't be on huge money and we would have to pay a shit load more for another player of his ability without the bad name.

I'd still look at James Vaughn as well though

I really don't see any harm in re-signing Ched. He is still better than Hanson, Done and McNulty and has the ability somewhere in there to potentially be better than Clarke and Lavery.

We have had plenty of players that have been completely transformed after the magical "full pre-season". I have every faith that Wilder and his team can work their magic with Evans and get him as close to what we had as anybody could. It is a gamble worth taking because we couldn't afford a player as good as Ched was.

The last time he played for us he looked a far superior all-round footballer to the pigs' ten million pound man, so let's give it a chance, ey? If it doesn't pay off, we've lost half a million quid. That's pocket change compared to some of the fees we've paid that haven't paid off.

In the scheme of things, it's a cheapish signing of a potentially very good forward. Why not see how it goes, rather than let it "split the fan base"?

I don't believe this.

500 fucking thousand???

If we owe compensation to anybody, it's Ched, not Chesterfield!

I could understand a low fee and good wages if this was the case, but 500k UP FRONT to Chesterfield is inexplicable.

Hopefully they've got this wrong about the fee.

Although I'm more mixed on his return than I was previously, I'd have no issue at all if we sign him (fee aside). But this timing is absolutely shocking. All the attention should be on our superb team and management now, not Ched Evans.

If we were going to sign him it should've been while we were in L1, not now.

End of the day he is an innocent man. I believe I remember Wilder saying a week or two ago that there will be suprises on incoming and outgoing players. Could he have been refering to this?

Sorry, why would we owe Ched compo?

Just posted on the main thread, I don't know the facts but I'm sure on this forum we've discussed before about an agreement that was in place to sign Evans after release, maybe Kmc had signed a pre contract agreement and that is binding and legally actionable.... it was a rumour at the time we had to let him go...

If this is the case we might be making the cheaper option and giving him a contract...like dean Hammond... wilders take on this is key to what's going on, he won't piss about.. we will know exactly what's going on....

You tell me. But there's been plenty of talk that he was trying to sue us, maybe he could actually have grounds to, as ridiculous as it seems. We certainly don't owe Chesterfield anything, which is why a 500k fee is almost unbelievable.

That said, Chesterfield don't deserve to lose him for a pittance. They were brave enough to take him on when he could've still been found guilty, which would've caused another shitstorm and brought them bad publicity.
But not 500k. Maybe 150k with another 150k in add ons.

Sorry but whatever your own personal views this has taken the gloss off an otherwise perfect season.

I'm not bothered about his personal life but why buy an injury prone striker who hardly hit the highlights in a division lower than where we will be next year.

Achilles injuries are notorious and if he comes I bet he's on and off injured all season

Hope this isn't an indication of Tuftys budget for next season !

If Wilder can blow £500K on a punt , the fella must have a good transfer budget . Also if truth be known £500K is nowt these days .

It's on sky sports news so it is happening mate - as long as he passes a medical I presume.
So we are being told. I must say the timing of the information seems odd. I'd be happy to be pleasantly surprised by this.but if you think about it in balance. Would James Vaughan be better value? Has Jordan Rhodes been good value.? Why did he get a new deal at Chesterfield when he did and why did we not sign him in January. Can he play with Billy? Questions upon questions. Have we been forced into a deal we don't really want to cover up something promised to ched .
I just want to bask in the enjoyment of this seasons achievements, why can't this just F off for a while and let us get on with celebrating.

What if we signed both of them? How would this forum cope? It would surely mean at least 10,000 posts.

I might have to revise that - we will have had 1000 posts on Ched alone by the end of today!

I'd be highly suprised if the fee was anywhere close to the reported £500k.

Ricky
Where is the proof that he is trying to sue us? It's probably all rubbish and was made up by the media or a Wendy.

Ched is innocent

500k may only be a drop in the ocean if we are spending big this summer

I don't care about the timing - we are run away Champs and nothing will take that away from us.

I'm actually quite excited by this signing which may have been agreed on his aquittle and Chesterfield signing him would have softened the blow for his return into the football world.

With better players around him he could get back to his best.

Fingers crossed

If this is CW's decision then fine. On the other hand if this is a back room deal from the chairman then it's a bloody disaster. The only thing this club needs to do is to let Wilder manage - simple really.

Deal will be UP to £500,000.

Would be surprised if it's half that initially.

This decision was always going to split us down the middle. Why would wilder want that now?

A little bit more of a snippet, it's nowhere near 500k. This isn't gospel though as it's not a direct bit of ITK, more 3rd party.....

Let's hope so.

The highest I'd be willing to go is 250k up front. Rising to a maximum of 500k only after a large number of goals.
