Changing managers

To me there are two main arguments against changing manager :

1) There has to be someone better who is available, affordable and wants to come here.
2) With every change of management there is always an inevitable disruption to the playing staff, backroom staff, playing style etc which usually requires a fair amount of resources and time to settle down. Every manager needs time.

NC has strengths and weaknesses. Looking around I don't see many better alternatives. Does that mean nothing should change? In my view we should looking for ways for improvement across the club including in Nigel. The problem would come in managing the "control freak" in Nigel - in areas like scouting, transfers, tactics and man management. The question is does he recognise that he has weaknesses he needs to address and does he want to. Who knows?

Remember the last appointment before Clough? Desperation and scraping the barrel led us to Weir, one of the worst managers in our history. Maybe in football history. Before that we got laughed at and insulted by an Australian working on the Australian league. We ran out of options.

Fortunately a solid manager with bags of experience for his age and a great footballing pedigree became available in the time it took us to realise Weir was a colossal error. We would be in a real mess trying to find a suitable replacement again in this league.

We know it's a crap division, we know we never do things the easy way and we know it'll be a struggle if we get up this season. I think Clough has things largely under control, the football is fine enough for this level we just need to tweak a couple of things: the players need to step it up in the final third, and we need to be a little more wiley in seeing games out and not being bullied by the endless stream of thugs we have to play against. Once we get a confidence-boosting win I'm sure plenty more goals and wins will follow.

We're in a bit of a sticky patch. It's imperative the fans and players stick together and even more important that the fans don't turn on the team and the manager.

Agree SandyMcBlade . Mr Clough will be as frustrated as we are , if not more . He is like us Blades , loyal to the cause.

He was definitely in the right place at the right time for us , and did pull us out of the abyss last season. However after a poor preseason and some awful performances , we are still in the mix . We are not that bad of a side , and Mr Clough will already be looking at altering the side , with players coming in , and going out. This process will have already started .

The style of play in my opinion will not change , but the playing staff will . Now is the time for Mr McCabe and Mr Prince to show there true colours and intentions , by backing Mr Clough on the final player recruitment in January .Mr Clough to spend wisely with the right calibre of recruitment .

Punk Blade - totally agree. So fed up of the reactionary attitude in football at the moment.

Most fans supported the decision to appoint Robson? I'm not having that. Dreadful appointment, and the majority of Utd fans could see the disaster coming a mile off.

But poor as recent performances have been, it's nuts to be thinking about changing the manager again - I still think NC will nudge us unattractively into the play-offs. I hate it when this is wheeled out as a justification for the dismal onfield efforts, but "we are still in fifth place" - he deserves this full season at the very least.

Me neither - I emailed that idiot Terry Robinson before it was announced I was so disgusted. He never replied the ignorant arsehole, probably too busy getting pissed with Robbo! Still amused by that bar table he used to have in the dug out.
