Bellingham over Brownhill?
Trafford over Cooper?
Sargent over Piroe?

I dunno, some questionable inclusions. I'm also not a fan of Tanaka. Feel like there's a better inclusion there, but can't think of it off the top of my head.

Brownhill’s omission is very strange in my opinion. 16 goals and 6 assists from midfield is impressive. Can only assume they were trying to get a mix of teams and the Burnley centre half pairing and keeper were always going to get in with their defensive record..

Only problem with him is fitness. Last two seasons in the championship he has averaged less than 28 games a season.
If you could get nearly 40 games a season out of him then you are looking at 25 goals a time.
Can we risk having another injury prone striker?

We have never previously let the fact someone is injury prone stop us signing them.

Tom Davies, Shacks, Campbell etc all say hello

I didn't appreciate there was a 3 player limit for each club. It really should have been even more dominated by the two teams going up.

Personally, I'd have gone..

........................... Trafford
Bogle........ Estevé......Egan-Eiley.....Firpo
..................Tanaka......Brownhill
...........James......Hamer.......Solomon
..............................Piroe

No surprises, it's made up of Leeds' attacking players and Burnley's defensive spine.

It's actually quite difficult to make a case for Hamer when you see the numbers of other players in his position (Rudoni - Coventry, Murphy - Portsmouth, Azaz - Boro, etc.).

But we've been a one man team for large parts of this season, he's carried our attack and we have won 91 points...

That team would get 5 nilled every week in the prem

I'm quite surprised Burrows gets included ahead of Firpo.

About 17 goals from midfield including many very big goals but Brownhill doesn't get in because he's not called 'Bellingham'. Laughable

If the 3 player limit leads to things like this then maybe scrap the 3 player limit

As has to be pointed out every year, the team of the year is voted for in January, when we were good.
Isn't it the PFA team of the year that's voted for in January? This is the EFL team of the year determined by a panel of experts, not the voted-for team.

Brownhill > Bellingham
Soloman > Sainz
Isidor/Piroe > Sargent
Cooper > Trafford
Bellingham has been superb for SAFC and is clearly the player of the year for the club. He missed 8 games this season for a variety of reasons - and we didn't win any of them. There is no doubt about it that he is going to be a superb player and may end up being better than his brother.

As for Isidor at Sunderland - he has tailed off unbelievably and currently is a pale shadow of himself. Hasn't scored in weeks.

Bellingham will leave Sunderland AFC in the summer for £30m to £40m - you'd get nowhere near that amount for Brownhill.

Brownhill's 29 and at his peak and would have no resale value. Bellingham is 19 with lots of potential to improve. Those are the reasons why his transfer value is much greater, but they aren't reasons to pick him for team of the year.

The people who have picked the team have obviously tried their best to get the best representative team. I've seen online a load of criticism of Bellingham - a lad that 90% plus will have seen a maximum twice live. We (Sunderland) fans have seen him live all 40 odd games and to us he does not look out of place in the team. The basic criticism of Jobe appears to be that he has a high profile brother, which is not a reason for not picking him in the team or having a downer on him.

Personally I'm not surprised he got picked - but then again I suppose I would say that given he is one of the"our" players.

I have to say that outside of Bellingham there are no other SAFC players I would have chosen so I'm not asking for a load of SAFC players to be included. I think it's quite a well balanced team and don't really have any material comments to make on it - except that I'm slightly surprised that 2 x Norwich players made the cut.

Jobe is a very different player to Jude and he obviously suffers from lazy comparisons by the hard of thinking. I’ve seen him quite a bit this season and his value is without doubt. Tremendous player. But the role he plays isn’t spectacular, just very necessary. In my view he is much better than a similar type of player in Kobbie Mainoo and will prove it in the PL.

You could have picked Hamer on the left, where he’s played most of the season and put Brownhill in and then forced a choice between Sainz and Sargeant.

If it was voted for in January then Souttar should have been in the team. No way is Burrows the best left back in the division, he gets beaten too easily by fast wingers as he's lacking in pace.
