We've played 27 Premier League games this season and have used 10x different back 3 combinations:

In order of first use and number of times used in brackets. This is starting 11 only and doesn't include changes during a game. League Games ONLY

Basham - Egan - O'Connell (2)
Basham - Ampadu - Robinson (1)
Basham - Egan - Robinson (5)
Basham - Egan - Stevens (4)
Basham - Egan - Ampadu (6)
Basham - Egan - Bryan (3)
Basham - Egan - Jagielka (1)
Ampadu - Egan - Stevens (1)
Basham - Jagielka - Ampadu (1)
Ampadu - Jagielka - Bryan (3)

With Southampton tomorrow, we'll see another combination too.

2019/21*

Basham - Egan - O'Connell (31)
Basham - Jagielka - O'Connell (1)
Basham - Egan - Robinson (5)
Basham - Jagielka - Robinson (1)

*pre-covid the stats were 26 and 1 (Jagielka played v Man Utd)

I've been critical of Ampadu but in the brief spells of playing 4 at the back he's strangely looked a better player.

He has. I feel we wasted a good few games trying to shoehorn him in at Central Midfield. Whilst doing that, we were playing Robinson at LCB instead.

The list certainly highlights the torrid season we've had at the back though.

Because his role is simplified. Which is why were a better team every time we go 4 at the back

well were certainly going to find out what ampadu and bryan are made of tomorrow up against ings and adams the only set up other than that is if we play baldock ampadu and bryan as centre backs and bring burke in at rwb

Not sure that's the case. The extra man it gives us to stop the midfield being overrun is key for me.( Notwithstanding the tactical reasons when going down to ten men).

Jagielka being suspended may force the back 4 on us. Could it be a blessing in disguise that actually works?

Ramsdale
Baldock - Ampadu - Bryan - Stevens
Lundstram - Norwood - Fleck
McGoldrick
Brewster - McBurnie

That would be the best lineup without putting square pegs in round holes.

got to be osborn in at lwb endas confidence is shot to pieces

So then what do we go with? The same back 3 that did ok versus Chelsea or a more solid known back 3?

Baldock Jagielka Stevens

Ampadu Jagielka Bryan

Highlights one of our biggest issues this Season. Wilder’s refusal to change the system resulting in us shoehorning in anyone and everyone at LCB
