Cat 1 Academy Status

Will Shirecliffe become the cat 1 academy once first team moves into Dore? I assume Shirecliffe won't need a lot doing to it unless there's minimum requirements to meet cat 1 status

I’m not sure if Shirecliffe is big enough to meet the requirements for cat 1. There’s no specific number of pitches needed but you need to be able to accommodate a higher number of hours coaching for all age groups which might not be possible at Shirecliffe.

I believe you also need a full-size indoor artificial pitch which Shirecliffe doesn’t have currently.

I’m not sure if everything has to be based at one site or if the different age groups could be split to have the older groups with the first team/women at the new site and younger age groups remain at Shirecliffe?

I think a lot of people on here don’t fully understand the costs of running a cat 1 academy either, the yearly costs for the extra coaching & support staff are considerably higher than what we currently pay to run the academy.

I think the plan was Shirecliffe to be the academy and Dore first team? Could be misremembering though!

In terms of facility size. West Brom & Birmingham City are Cat 1 clubs, who's training grounds are very similar to Shirecliffe in terms of training facilities. Indoor 3g's, full size outdoor 3g, x4 grass pitches. Leicester City's old training ground was very similar in size and structure to Shirecliffe.

Although far smaller than the space stations of Man City, Liverpool, Leicester etc. Shirecliffe is still far smaller in size and space compared to the likes of Burnley, Boro, Sunderland etc too.

The big factor to consider is the full-time model, probably from U12's upwards. Facilities wise for training we can do it with the pitch space, we would have access to x2 gym/S&C facilities, x2 analysis rooms. The biggest factor is the Education facilities for the U12'-18's. The U12-16's would probably adopt either a hybrid or full-time education programme at the football club. The classroom space for teaching would have to be availiable, also considering an increase in the staffing structure. More education/teaching staff, more part-time staff becoming full-time coaches looking after 1 age group as opposed to the full-time staff overseing a phase at 9-12's with PT staff coaching, it may look more like x3 full time between 9-12's and 13-16's with PT coaches supplementing.

More than doable. and would put us in a great position to really dominate the recruitment in the area.

Think we can all agree that with the introduction of the new EFL spending rules from next year, it is absolutely essential we get CAT1 status as quickly as possible. The cost of developing the Dore site clearly scared the s**t out of COH. I personally think we’re at least a year behind schedule……. Of course this is all academic as we all know we will be a Premier League team again next year 😂
