What's that all about?

I know it's been about for a season now, but why can't you pay by card at the tills anymore? It's 2018

Sometimes I don't have any cash and it's quite annoying when I fancy a warm pint of pis... sorry Thatchers that I can't have one.

I bought my shirt with my card last week?

Was it because it was on a match day and it's quicker to pay by cash?

(Shirts are over the £30 contactless limit price)

Sorry, meant at the food and drink tills, not the club shop :)

Is it because everything at the kiosks is priced over the contactless limit? ;) (do they still do them Klix mints that were 6 chewing gums in a blister pack? If so, they must be at least £5 now)

I think it just has to be that it's quicker.

Contactless cards and cash only would be better, but they'd just get aggro from people that don't have a contactless card.

Having contactless would I’m sure increase their revenue. Not only would be who don’t carry cash be more tempted, it’d also speed up the process and mean less people can be bothered to queue.

I’m still unsure why there aren’t pints per-poured. The tills and system that sits behind it surely record sales, so they should have an accurate understanding of many units are sold in each area of the ground and when.

Easier for the Prince n McCabe to share out at the end!!

The people who manufacture our season ticket / membership cards are the same company who the NFL ones. In america, you can load your card with cash and spend it at the kiosks etc, dont understand why the same thing isnt introduced here, would speed everything up.
That's for too inventive for us

You don't need signal to make a contactless payment via mobile

The terminal receiving the payment has to have a signal. Happens a lot in Spain / Gib, shop person walking around with the terminal, trying to find a sweet spot to take my euros! Although they could just wire them into the phone lines, then no problem

You'd assume they'd have phone lines put in, I'd certainly hope so...

It's probably a cost and set up issue. You have to have a contract with the merchant provider set up, a decent wifi connection or phone line point/ phone contract and the terminals are usually leased with monthly payments. You also need to train the staff to use them - they're pretty simple but staff need to know what to do when something goes wrong.
It's all possible, of course, but as I said on the other thread, for the few minutes of business that is done per month at SUFC it's probably expecting a bit much.

Can you even get cards that aren’t contactless these days?

Or even just have cash only / card on tills. Would speed everything up. Im outraged. On my way to the car park.

Think all cards issued now are contactless but it's the older cards that are still a couple of years off expiring that are the problem.

Ever been at Bramall Lane when the 4G grinds to a halt at half-time because so many people are using it?
Didn't seem to be an issue at Tramlines at the weekend when there was no 4G connection on my phone, but all the stalls were contactless only and working fine.

I assume they generally operate via a local network rather than using 4G.

Mrs Rodders is with NatWest and had a contactless card - got a new one sent to her about 6 months ago... still not contactless mwahaha

Other grounds have contactless payments. Run some cable if you can't do wireless and speed of service might be increased.

As far as I'm aware transactions can be stored locally too until a connection becomes available, which is why sometimes you buy a Twix and a lottery ticket from the shop on your card and it doesn't appear for a week.

The drop out is only for a few minutes and then its just slow for a bit after that.

Cost and set up issue? Don't these caterers have a Money Tree like us?

Bit left field, but what we could do with are machines placed around the city where you can draw your cash out or a system in shops and supermarkets, where you can get money when you buy your tampax. They could call it cashback or something.

May take a bit of forward planning but saves the time looking up at the cash only sign, down to the card in your hand and back up again with that gormless but frustrated look on your face, as starvation and dehydration both enter the second stage.

I find it amazing that they don’t take card on the kiosks still. As the OP says, it’s 2018 now! I’d also argue that paying by cash takes longer given they have to give change, and surely by now everyone’s card is contactless.

I rarely ever have cash on me so don’t ever buy anything pre match or at half time. If they took contactless then I’m sure I would get a drink and I’m sure there’s many more like me.
