Cash in or Develop?

It's not that outrageous though really. It could take another two years of 'development' before Lou is ready to be a first team regular. During that time he has to be allowed to play, and make mistakes, some of which may be punished. It may even cost us games.
If a bid was big enough, you could argue that we'd be better taking the money and reinvesting it in players who are ready for the first team.
I'd like to think we don't need to do that and NA will be backed enough to get us up and if we're playing well, it should be easier to give the young players opportunities to play and develop, at their own pace.

While his form tailed off last season, it's hardly surprising and he's got better reasons for it than the senior players. Anyone who is overly critical of him, is basically an over- opinionated arsehole whose arrogance is only surpassed by their ignorance.

Well, there is another course. Steven Quinn and Matt Lowton both benefitted from loan spells at other clubs. That's something we could try with Reed if we have better central midfield options.

Then he is allowed to play without any risk of costing us games. There is no reason to stick him in the first team every week for the sake of it if he's not ready. Time is on his side.

I don't think it's over criticising to say he had a poor second half of the season though. It's a factual statement IMHO, despite it perhaps being understandable for a young pro in his first full season.

No, saying he had a poor second half of the season is fair comment, he did. I was referring to the few who claim he's too small, too weak and will never be good enough.

Most of the forum know who you mean ;)

Sorry, I was distracted by the curse of the drinking classes.

What I meant to say is, there's nothing wrong with constructive criticism or even saying you don't rate players, that's the point of a message board but spewing vitriol over kids learning their trade is a bit pathetic.

I think he's currently too small and weak. So is Scougall. But it's less of a problem for Reed as he still has time to develop and grow. Dane Whitehouse had a similar physique at 18. By 21 he was much tougher. That's my hope for Reed.

Reed could be a big star if his passing comes with more end product. I hope if he plays next season we partner him with people who compliment him, rather than Scoogs.

And another thing - if you want identifiable players, grown locally and with talent, I suggest you get yourself a time machine and go back to about 1965.

Is there a club in the English leagues that currently has a squad like that? I can't think of one.

Look a little further

Unless he has a last minute growth spurt, and that can happen of course, then his height is pretty much as it will be forever. I agree that he could do with filling out, to become more "Monty like" in his build, that would help.

According to t'internet he's two inches taller than Scholes.
I don't think he needs to bulk up like Monty, just work on his upper body strength, balance and using his body to hold off players. As he gets more experience he'll take up better positions which will buy him that fraction of a second more to take a touch and turn away from his man.

He'll get kicked a lot. So did Maradonna, accept it like a boxer accepts he's going to get punched.

That would make Scholes about 4ft tall! ;)

Also, until very recently, t'internet listed Basham as 5ft 10, when he is clearly over 6ft tall.

By "Monty like" I just meant solid, without it slowing him down.

Yeah, kind of Aguerro like. Compact and solid but still mobile.

By Monty like I assumed well liked.

No mate, I meant that Monty was not the tallest player but he was stocky enough and could run for 90 minutes, he was solid in the tackle, not knocked off the ball too much.
