Carruthers

I'm also extremely disappointing with his contribution this season. From a couple of his sub cameos in League One, I thought we had a real player on our hands and I expected him to play a big part this season, probably like Wilder did.

However I'd only let him leave in January if we brought a couple of midfielders in first. We're so short on numbers in the middle, we'll need him as cover at least.

I'd give him away right now. Everyone can have pop shots all they like about Sharp, Stearman, Stevens or whoever. They put a shift in. This guy is a coward and I was hoping Wilder would just take him off the park and finish with 10. we might have had a better chance. It was clear after a minute he wasn't up for it
There's nothing cowardly about him, almost the opposite as he tries to take them one. He is however totally rubbish and needs shipping out first thing tomorrow morning.

It's a shame because he started the season well in Duffy's temporary absence but ever since he just hasn't looked up to speed at all, albeit with very limited opportunities.
We know he has the skill but he seems to making very basic errors before he even gets into a decent position to really make it count.
Lack of first team action won't be helping so maybe a short spell away would be best for all concerned. Half a season out on loan to lg1 and get 15 or so matches under his belt then we can look again in the summer.

I think a lot of people are wrongly criticising his character here where there is no need to make it a personal attack.

I agree 100% that it isn’t working and that his appearances have been poor and he hasn’t earned his place.

However he is no coward and there is no lack of effort on his part, he tries to make things happen and always makes himself available. The only problem is nothing is working at the moment and in all honesty we need higher quality. But that’s all, no need to attack a the kid cos it’s not worked out.

At the start of the season - the last time he had any sort of sustained run in the team - no one was anywhere near as critical of him as they are being now - at a time he's only making cameo appearances.

Just a thought.

He can’t even make basic decisions and switches off. He should be as bright as a button if he really wants a place. Lack of game time is really no excuse for any of these things.

.
there is no lack of effort on his part.

Aside from yesterday when he came on and his attitude, clear to see, was one of disinterest.

What I observed yesterday leads me to thinking about his attitude in general. (Maybe why he hasn’t featured more if his attitude behind the scenes isn’t what was to be expected as well? Though that’s just my guess).

If I was in his (privileged) position, taking out the fact I’m a blade, and I knew I had a point to prove I’d be running my bollocks off showing what I can do and proving my worth, and that it’s more than a bit part appearance from the bench.

Unfortunately Carruthers has not done this in any of his appearances this season and as much as I liked the signing last season, it’s pretty evident that it has not worked out and it’s time for him to ply his trade elsewhere if we can offload him and get a decent replacement in.

Not a personal attack on him (as I don’t know the kid), just a general observation.
Likewise. Wouldn’t say he is a coward, which has been mentioned here already, I just think he no longer seems interested in being here.

There's no doubt that he's been poor..Maybe he just needs regular football,it's not easy coming off the bench for 10 minutes with the task of trying to make something happen...nothing seems to come off,but he's a better player than he's currently showing.
Maybe it's not going to happen for him here, and he'll be moved on or loaned out to get regular games.

Soz, but that's rubbish. He's just the current whipping boy, & basically it's open season on him now (even for his 10 minute cameos).

No surprise at all he was as anxious as he was yesterday.
Think you might be right Alfie ,he's having a bad time at present. If we don't sell him !!
Maybe loaning him out for rest of the season could be good for him and us.
He's a talented player who's lost his way and could come back next season rejuvenated and be useful which ever division we are in.

I'm surprised Wilder signed him. I'm shocked Wilder picks him at all.

The lad has no interest in doing boring tasks as tackling, marking, tracking or concentrating on the game. He only tries when the ball is at his feet and then he thinks he's Roy of the Rovers.

Brooks is poor at the defensive side of the game, but he tries and works for the team. Samir doesn't.

He needs to be sold

If we start February with him on the bench then we're screwed.

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem... if no one else can help... and if you can find them... maybe you can hire... The A-Team

I would respectfully disagree. For someone to seem disinterested they would have to go missing, Avoid possession of ball and make themselves unavailable for passing.

Within 5 mins of him being on he’d made 2 darting runs towards the box which looked good until he made dreadful decisions with the final bit.

I also saw him calling for the ball and he even played the ball in for Clarke’s last opportunity.

For me I’m not saying he deserves a run but I think his attitude is great the problem at the moment is nothing is working out and he’s making bad decisions.

Reminds me a bit of scougal at times where he’s darting around looks decent the. Hangs onto the ball too long or plays a crap pass

I thought he's looked a bit lost in the parts that he's played.
Cant be critical of him wanting the ball and trying to drive forward when he's got the ball but its after he has lost it that I have an issue. As mentioned, he has made some bad final decisions, either trying to take one more player on or trying a silly pass. There doesnt seem to be the desire to win the ball back after losing it.
Just seemed to look around with a "oh well, I tried" expression as opposed to chasing back and trying to win the ball back for another go.

Yeah, as you say, maybe a loan would be the best option. It'd get him out of the firing line, let him get a bit of confidence back, & allow him to get a run of games to use what he'll have learnt under Wilder & Knill and try & put it into practice. Then things could be reassessed in the summer.
