Australia international David Carney has pleaded with his club Sydney FC to allow him to speak to Sheffield United about a potential move.

The Socceroos midfielder was due to fly to England to discuss terms with the Blades, only for Sydney FC executives to pull the plug on the deal at the last minute.

The Australian club are now insisting on a solid cash offer before granting the 23-year-old permission to talk to interested parties.

A frustrated Carney told the Sheffield Star: "Like any other player, I am really keen to explore those options.

"It has been a bit frustrating the last couple of days. One minute I am going to England for talks, the next minute I am not.

"I'd really like the club to put themselves in my shoes. I don't believe they are doing that. I want the opportunity to go and at least see what they have got to offer."

Heard he is a pretty inconsistent player

Nothing special and would certainly struggle to get in your team

Im sure thats got nothing to do with the fact that Wednesday were once interested.....

8 goals and numouress assists last seasons sounds pretty consistent to me.

hmmmm posted in wrong board oza

S'alright... shifted it into General Blades Chat.

The match threads forum is for threads specific to matches so that everything is kept together :)

That's what I thought Sharpy!

It's a bit unfair to make such a judgement based on second hand information.

I've 'heard' very good things from family in Oz about him but i will reserve judgement until i actually see him play, either for sheffield united or whoever else he may sign for.

Everton fans rate him well.

They were surprised that they let him go in the 1st place.

would be nice to think that we may have real left sided options come the start of the season.

SFC supporter here,

The only question with Dave is whether he is an OK CCC player, or whether he can take his game (and yours) up a notch and get up for promotion. He won't flop per se, but it will be a question of of how far he can go.
