Cantana - a famous goal at Bramall Lane

I had the perfect view of that goal. About 8 or 9 rows back on the kop, behind the goal. I still can't believe how small the gap was between Kellys hand and the crossbar was, and it dropped between them both.

As an afterthought of the game. Cantona should have been sent off for his part in the fisticuffs with Charlie Hartfield, and he should have been suspended for the infamous Kung-Fu kick game with Palace.

Cantona is one of those legendary players who now seems a bit shit because of everyone that has come after him.

Scored about the same number of league goals in his career as Emile Heskey.

Yeah but realistically he was a 10. Superb player who came along as English football was changing, and changed it a fair bit himself too. Also a cock but that probably added to it all a bit didn't it?

If I remember rightly, it was only a couple of weeks before his Palace kung fu kick wasn't it? I remember in this match, him standing and staring out the entire Kop with his hands on his hips because someone chucked a big roll at him when he was about to take a corner.

Agreed, if he'd been around about 10 years later he wouldn't be half as well thought of or won nearly as much.

He was a great player obviously but mostly what he was was the absolute best man for his time and place.

I was only a few rows back, he got tangled up in the bog roll then kicked the corner flag instead of the ball IIRC. Whole kop gave him stick. I’m sure that’s why he tried the chip not long after and did that little lean-in goal celebration.
