we won the league in 1945 /6

after the war football started back up and they split the country into north south due to fuel rationing
was a full season , and we won the title , why oh why is it not recognised , yet 1919 is

had man utd won it bet it would be recognised big time

in what way 42 game season made up of the top northern clubs started several months after the war , how was it not "proper"

we won an fa cup in 1915 in the middle of a war

surely the league was run to boost moral after the war , by not recognising it we are belittling their efforts
all the teams knew the rules , the competition was the same as any league

the facxt there was north and south was down to fuel shortages , nothing else the football remained a constant

Birmingham won the League South, so we were joint champions if anything. What they did was take the first and second division teams and split them on a north/south basis. They could have had a play off between SUFC and Brum to decide the national champions, but they didn't....

It wasn't an official league season, that season was carried on along similar lines as the previous war time leagues. I believe in theory it was still possible to sign players that were billeted close by, although I think all or nearly all of United's players were 'our own'. The 1914-15 season was an official season that the football league continued with despite huge pressure from outside to close it down.

They probably deserve a bit more recognition for winning it, but it'll never be classed as a 'major' honour.

doesnt need to be a major honour , but its been totally dismissed , which shafts the players who took part in it
the war ended in may , only london clubs were unable qpr apart to field sides
the competition was under fa rules , 11 v 11 everyone knew the competition rules , how does that differ from any other leagues run
they didnt play in tin hats or carry a bayonet

Crikey let's drag up the past and get all bitter and twisted about it. Where's Judge to add a bit of satire to the situation?

I knew that bleedin' Hitler was a 'wrong un'"...pity, he showed such promise at one stage...

Let's challenge them to this match now. Would make a good back drop to a friendly next year?

Tin hats and bayonets were only introduced when Blackwell was appointed manager weren't they? ;)

The next time we played them after that season was 48/49,in which we won 2-1 away, and 4-0 at the Lane...This will do for me in terms of a Play Off.....Champs!

That's a bit harsh. Shit loads of possession in the final third, but no final ball ?

I heard the Russians had a scorcher and then the defence just froze the attack out

Same thing happened to the French a few hundred years before
Plenty of ball play but very little to show for it
