Cannon?

I certainly don't like piling in on the lad. He isn't good enough though, but I comment with some hesitancy because our problems are also far greater.

However, I will say this - some of the best forwards at this level and the one above have played with frustration. Drop in, demand the ball to feet, run your knackers off, try to make things happy, play with an anger, play like a man possessed. Even if you need to be subbed because you're then flagging. Out run, out fight, out play.

Neither Cannon or Wilder benefit from his continued inclusion in the team, we don't play in a way that remotely suits Cannon (whatever that may be) and even the biggest Wilder fans get irritated by him always picking someone who makes the team worse.

As he's one of our few players that somehow has decent value it makes sense to sell him if a decent offer comes in that lets us invest in someone else who can make a more positive contribution, and lets him have a shot at actually having a career before his reputation is destroyed entirely.

Possibly one of our worst ever signings as we didn't even need a striker when we bought him.

Let’s face it whoever they brought in would’ve promptly left or been sacked once they realised the owners pockets were puddle deep. Another shit sandwich season, can see no reason to follow them all over unless you really hate the Mrs. I’d rather her chew my ear all weekend than watch use get mugged off
No I get it. I’ve said before. These owners paid a lot of money for what seemed a team destined for the Prem. As we didn’t get there I think they knew what was coming hence Selles then reverting back to Wilder.

The owners must be mindful of what CW wasted on Cannon when he asks for funds.

Then again they brought him back and recently extended his contract.

I don’t think it’ll be long before it turns toxic myself. Cannon or no Cannon.

I hope I’m wrong.
The Board brought him back so they must back him.

He’s done the dirty work for them.

Sold Brooks for 9m. Sold Hamer for 6m+2m.

Offloaded Davies, Ings, Mee.

Trimmed Matos, Nwanchukwu and Polendakov.

In return he’s so far got one teenage winger to replace Brooks, a free transfer right back and a heavily subsidised loan player.

Maybe he can add Cannon money to that pot too. But he needs a couple of very decent players to be given a chance of success this season.

But we did need a CH

I feel sorry for Cannon.
Until this anti football dinosaur of a manager does one we are going to bore the shit out of 99% of the fan base.

We need a new manager who knows modern day football and coaches the team properly.
Im of the same mate, no anger towards Cannon, feel for the bloke, my anger is towards Wilder! We all know why he keeps playing him! £10mill reasons, and then the dinosaur goes and gives the other dud a 2 year contract! ( Campbell) ffs!

You’ve got to remember as an average those that end up in football are not the cream of the crop intellectually. I don’t think that is an incorrect or unfair statement. I’m talking about the average not the exceptions.

Generally majority have to favour football so leave school without completing education and that sets the pool.

Once playing days are over these same folks go into Coaching, Scouting etc. those with detailed analytical minds until perhaps some recent instances, are in other industries and you only have to look at the wages clubs will pay an analyst and it isn’t going to attract top tier talent.

This is not meant to offend. I’m not saying all footballers are thick or having a dig ant anyone who didn’t have a chance to further their education etc. But the average is there in the pool and it sets the tone.

Take even our PL recruitment. Callum Robinson. He was not a centre forward. If we decided to play 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 he would have been useful on the left. He wasn’t a Center Forward though so how did he even get recruited?

Oliver Burke was quick, but he also wasn’t a Center Forward.

Now I know we can’t afford top level talent but surely we could have afforded someone whose trade it was to play there?

I liked the phrase earlier used as well; why are we glacial paced when it comes to getting deals done? When it comes to players moving out they’re gone in days. Coming in? It’s like settling the Middle East conflict!
I get what your are saying, but I do think the reasoning is a bit too simplistic. Yes most professional players have limited education and a good percentags come from areas where education isnt a priority. Conversely there is a difference between educated, high IQ/intelligence and capabilities. Why some rise to the top in these roles is opportunity. Specific skillsets can be strengthened if the skills align with the person's natural talents. It is opportunity that determines the speed of development.

With that in mind, what we would expect is that the poorer coaches and scouts would not build a good track record. Thus, even if they have been given opportunities, they would dropped by clubs.

Another part of this is culture. "Culture is the collective programming of the mind that distinguishes one group of people from another. Its the "how we do things around here" mindset that is heavily influenced by those at the top.

Brentford and Brighton being two clubs that look to have the systems in place to coach and scout at the highest levels.
I know that even those clubs don't get everything right, but they have less poor decisions than average

In our case for the last 10 years or so we have made a lot of poor decisions that were costly. 18M Brewster, poor movement and justs wants to hit the ball with power. Cannon £10M, just play it in front of me on the grass. McGuinness on a long ball tends to run out under the ball, taking himself out of the game. Berge £23M a luxury player whose work rate was suspect, can't win headers even though 6 Foot 5in. and rarely uses a left foot. I agree with you about Robinson, though I will add that he also pulls out of challenges.

What we require is a DOF, an overhaul of our scouting, and a process with guide rails to prevent Wilder or any manager from persistenly deciding "I want those two and won't accept anyone else." That would at least prevent £28M being spent on two players who are so limited that they each have only 1 strength and about 9 weaknesses.

These failures aren't because of IQ and education. They are caused by inaccurate scouting reports, a manager with an ego problem, a board who don't understand the game and a recruitment process that needs to be changed.

What we are looking for is. Skill level, pace, both feet, positivity, leadership, resilience and ambition.

Although i do have some sympathy for the lad it is clear that he needs to go. We need whatever transfer fee we can get and he needs a complete re-set somewhere else. Its a shame One has tweaked his hammy because we badly need him to offer some spark and energy to a forward line that will have to create their own chances this season given we have pretty much zero creativity.

Has Wilder ever provided a justification for continuously including him in the team week in week out? If so, what has he said. I would be interested to hear his justification for doing so.

Horrible to see a guy struggle, but it's clear to see that he's just not capable of playing at this level. Looks so far out of his depth. Reminds me of when Joe Ironside played up front for us. After Joe dropped down a league or two he has had a great lower league career. If we can get shut, even on loan, it has to be done.

I'm not ITK or anything but I've heard from someone who has close links to stoke that over the weekend they have stepped up interest and are looking at getting him back there. If nothing else it has brightened up this gloomy Monday morning for me.
Admin , can u block anyone from stoke reading this forum please ?

Please be true. 🙏

Problem is the fee has to be right as we are paying for him on the tick ( like you do) so any fee could get eaten up in the outstanding debt to Leicester plus any sell on clause

Fair point...although we arent too far from getting to the point where i think we should accept anything...literally....coloured buttons and marbles.

No disrespect to Tom as he’s a far better player than me and sometimes it doesn’t work out at certain clubs for players
but I think the only reason we should be keeping him now is if his pal Bobby Ball is coming out of retirement
and they are going back on the road to raise us money to offset the loss of parachute payments…..😁

Somebody, possibly using a beta version of AI, thought Tom Cannon would fill in the gap left by Kieffer Moore, which considering he was five times the book value is perfectly understandable.
However watching Moore win headers, run channels, trap and layoff the ball, shoot and actually fucking score, just makes me want to weep.

Moore got a lot of criticism from our fans while he was here. He's shown at pretty much every other club he can be a huge asset when used correctly. I know some derby fans who absolutely love Brewster. Bogle is a genuinely decent premier league wing back. I'm sure there's countless more which shows the main consistent problem is Wilder.

I don’t think Wilder would have sold Moore, especially for such a trifling amount.

Unfortunately we got the mainly injured version of Big Keefer
